This was so well written. Your writing style is amazing. So Raavi was married to Shiva in the past, and now is marrying someone else. And the child is theirs too, that was unexpected! I wonder what had happened between them that things turned out to be so bitter 💔 The relationships seem all tangled even in the past with Disha's and even this Aditya's angle now. Currently, I really hope Shiva returns in time! Excited for the next one 😛

I also really loved the poem you started the chapter with. Poignant and beautiful at the same time. You're a lovely writer ❤️

Chapter 3

Breathe!

Breathe so I can live

Breathe so I can feel you...

Keep breathing because the sound of your inhale

And that noisy exhale...

They are my lullabies.

They bring me to life

And Push my loneliness away...

They make me see the silent miracle that you are...

So breathe...

Raavi watched Aalaap as he slept soundly in his crib. He was breathing softly, looking just like his father as he laid there. He looked so innocent and sometimes he furrowed his brow for a second before it smoothed over. His lips were parted. Sometimes, he just smiled for a few precious seconds before he stopped.

She sighed and turned to see the ticking wall clock mounted on the opposite wall. She was sitting in his room now, her new groom's, Dheer's. And even though Dheer was not a stranger to her anymore, she was still not used to this... this relationship that breathed between them. He was her friend... Best friend... But could she accept him as more? She didn't know. Only time could tell her. But Dheer knew... everything. He knew about her past and her feelings of then and now. She was an open book to him.

She closed her eyes as she reminisced about their wedding, the same wedding that happened not even three hours ago. She remembered the way his eyes had assured her when he had placed that garland around her neck. She remembered...

"Calm down. Isse kuch nahin badlega. Na tum... aur na main. Mera waada hai tumse ki main bas sahara dene aaya hoon. Apna rasta tum jaise banaogi, main bas ek saathi ki tarah saath chalunga tumhare." Dheer told her as she nervously took her place beside him. She watched him, unsure and nervous and he watched her, so full of assurance that her disbelieving, shattered heart ached, wanting to turn whole once again. The way he watched her like she was his life, made her want to weep at the injustice of it all. Why couldn't she meet him first? Why couldn't he be the one that taught her heart what love truly was? It was unfair that she couldn't give much at this point. She couldn't love him... not when her heart was fracture so thoroughly by one very heartless Shiva Pandya. His name sent her into panic. Why couldn't she just leave him behind? He did... She shook her head. Dheer smiled gently at her. A baby's gurgle brought her back and both of them turned to see Aalaap, who was lifting his hands towards them, gesturing to be taken in arms. Dheer smiled back and asked Anita to bring him nearer. Anita settled him in Dheer's lap, ruffling his hair as she did so. Dheer bent down to kiss his little head and was rewarded with his beautiful laugh. Raavi had to smile at that.

She was in a stupor as she heard the priest’s directions. She was reminded of her wedding with Shiva. One where she was relatively more calmer and also happier than now. Yet, she couldn’t seem to ignore Dheer’s presence. He was magnetic. His eyes, kind and gentle but giving her all the strength she needed. They were asked to stand up for pheras and she was reminded of Shiva as she stood. She faltered and he held her with the hand that wasn’t holding Aalaap, telling the world exactly what he was going to be in their life. He was sent as a support to both her and Aalaap, a pillar of strength in their lives, a roof of confidence, that stretched over their heads and also the walls that gave them the much needed respite from all that world spouted about them. He was everything she needed but necessarily wanted. But when he was straightening her up with concern, he bent down to her ears and gave his first vow.

“From today onwards, till the moment I breathe, I will be here! For you. I will support you. I will be the earth that you walk upon, the sky that stretches above. I will be the rain that gives you life and the sun that lights your world. I will be whatever you need me to be. I will be... Yours...” And Raavi first the first thaw of her frozen heart. The single beat of her melancholic and mute heart. It scared her to her wit’s end, erasing the picture of Shiva for some moments. She exhaled and swallowed. She was in trouble. She was in deep trouble. Her heart was rebelling.

Before Raavi.

Dev Pandya, the second born of the Suman Pandya. He was gentle and indecisive when it came to anything in life. He would rather give in than confront what was troubling him. And what was troubling him was Raavi. She sat before him, watching him questioningly, the innocence with which she was watching him was hurting his soul. What had he done to deserve this reverence from her? He didn’t know.

“Dev?” He heard her voice and started. Shaking his head, he smiled at her, wishing it hd been simple. Wishing he loved her back. But he didn’t. Yet... How do you break someone’s heart when you know it was you who stayed in it since forever? He knew her heart had been his temple since forever. He couldn’t do a thing to snuff the light in her eyes away. So he didn’t even try. Just nodded once. And the resulting smile that bloomed on her face, the shiniest twinkle that took over her eyes, almost, almost, made up for the shattering of his heart. He couldn’t let her break... Not now... Not ever!

“Yayyyyy!” He heard and turned to see both of their families. He watched Raavi’s grin and realised that it was a set proposal. Their families were elated. Maami with a painful smile and Maama with a genuine one. Anita was holding a board of congratsss, Dhara bhabhi was warding off all the evil eyes. Suman was chuckling at Gautam and Krish who were dancing. And Shiva, who was shaking his head at them with a small smirk. But his eyes weren’t present there entirely. Dev knew he was wondering about Disha, the same Disha who had refused to meet him even after fourteen days of his arrival and continued to make excuses for herself.

Dev shuddered and looked away towards the sad and lonely moon, wondering about the one whose temple his heart had become since three years now, His fiery girlfriend, Rishita. She was his antithesis. Where he was soft, she was sharp. Where he was indecisive, Rishita always took matters in her hand to be done with them. Dev didn’t know when he fell for her, but he did. He fell hard and slow, enjoying every minute of it. They didn’t see eye to eye from the beginning. They just grew in love, proceeding phase by phase, falling stage by stage, until one day, she was late to college and he knew he could never take a breathe if she wasn’t present in his life anymore. She became necessary for his life. And now he would have to learn to undo the dependency on her so he doesn’t break Raavi apart, the same Raavi who had loved him since she knew what love was. She was his friend and he couldn’t see her in pain. So he smiled as she took his hand and made him wear the ring, her ring for him, while their families clapped around them. Krish, thumping his back good naturedly.

Disha sipped on the soft drink as she watched Aditya speak. He looked so absorbed in his narration that he had forgotten why they were there. They were in love. Since Shiva left, he was there constantly, always supportive of her.

He was there when a thief had snatched away her purse and made a dash across the street. He had ran after the thief and gotten it back for her before he had handed over the guy to the police. He was there when she had fallen off her scooty and hurt her. He had helped her up and when her arm had bent at an impossible angle, he was the one to take her to the doctor and run around to help.

She had had sleepless nights waiting for Shiva to call and when the phone screen had remained unlit, Aditya was the one who had stayed awake with her, messaging her till she lulled herself to sleep, disappointed at being stood up again.

When she had fallen sick, Disha had fainted in class and he was the one to have taken her to the hospital and gotten her admitted. He was the one who had been around her, so she wouldn’t have a repeat of that experience.

Countless incidents had passed before the slither of the first doubt had begun. Disha had not heard from Shiva for weeks and when she did receive his call and was about to chastise him, she had heard a female laughter from the other end. When she had inquired, he had told her he was out with a group of friends. But was he? And so began the torture of suspicion. She laid in bed thinking if he was truly alone or had a girl over! Was he as loyal as she had imagined? And silence from his side was deafening. So much that it drowned out everything that had given strength to her love for him. And in that storm, the only beacon had been Aditya.

She had begun to need him constantly and he had begun to hive her constantly, never asking for anything in return. And it was precisely this that had made her like him this much. And today, as she watched him chatter away about some exam that he had aced, she realised that she never not wanted to hear his voice. She craved for his presence, for the way his voice rose in excitement, for the way he threw his head back in a carefree laugh. She loved his smile. And she loved how he stilled when he saw her silent, raising an eyebrow in question. She blushed.

“I love you.” She whispered in trance. His breath hitched and he blinked twice, making her apprehensive. She became restless as he watched her for minutes, just watched her, with unreadable eyes, before he exhaled.

“Took you long enough.” He breathed. “I love you too. More than every fibre of my being.” She laughed as tears cascaded down her cheeks.

“WHAT?” They stiffened as they heard his roar.

Raavi watched Dheer as he lead her around the fire. Aalaap was playing with the turban on his head, twisting and turning in Dheer’s arms, as he firmly held him. In front of everyone present, Dheer completed his pheras with her, promising her with every step, of his unconditional love and support. He asked for forgiveness if he ever erred. He asked for her trust and he promised her, his trust. He told her she was allowed to make mistakes and they would both learn from these mistakes.

The last phera, as he completed it, brought something akin to relief and peace to Raavi. She sniffled as she turned back to see him. He smiled. His smile as enchanting as her son’s. The two men of her life, one whom she lived for and one who was going to live for her. The little guy had been important to her since the first time she knew of his existence but this man? He had made his place in her life with each second he had helped her... With his actions and his words. He had become a definite part of both her life and her son’s life. And his vows had warmed her heart. It had allowed her to dream once more. The dead eyes that had become her introduction to the world had now come alive at each syllable he had uttered to her today.

And now as he watched her watch him, he smiled gently. He was kindness personified was he not?

“I will not let harm come your way ever again Raavi. Till I live, I will make sure that you would never need another shoulder to lean on. In sickness, In health and in mundane days, I promise to stay by your side.”

She sobbed.

The priest made them sit down again and asked Dheer to fill her maang. He did so. Gently, reverently. Like she was a fragile doll. The ache that induced within her wasn’t something she could put in words.

“I promise to catch you when you stumble and when you fall I will fall with you. I promise to grow with you and learn from you. I promise that for Aalaap I will learn to be the best father so he can be the best human. I promise...”

And then he was tying her nuptial chain, with the most intense look she had seen on his face Dheer kissed her forehead.

“I am Dheer Adhvaryu. And from today, I am yours. I will stand by you, patient and calm, your home in the whole wide world. I will be the island of reason in the storm of your grief. A healing touch to your aching wounds. Because thats what Dheer stands for. For patience. For perseverance. For silent support if you ever need it.” He declared. And with his words all her reminiscing of her past marriage had evaporated. From Shiva’s Raavi, she had become Dheer’s Raavi. And the stark contrast of both had her reeling for a while. His words had shut a chapter of her life and opened a new one.

Raavi leaned down to place a kiss on her son’s forehead and laugh lightly. Here she was, starting a new life as Dheer’s Raavi. And she was excited. Because Shiva Pandya had taught her to love truly, but Dheer Adhvaryu? He had taught her to hope...

Breathe...

I am actually intrigued to know what's going to happen your writing style is really unique & I love it❤️

But I need assurance if Shiva-Raavi are the end game Or not. Because if it's otherwise, my heart may not be able to take it.
