Pandya Store Villains Edition

I've always loved villains who are villains with a touch of relatability. Characters that are evil, only for the sake of being evil, are quite boring. Instead, villains should constantly make you wonder whether they are right or whether they are wrong. At least, those are the best written out villains in my mind. People you could sympathize and hate all at the same time.

Prafulla Narayan

"She's the last memory I have of my sister... of course I want to see her happy!!"

One of the biggest potential storylines PS can explore is Prafulla's equation with her sister prior to her death. I really like the use of flashbacks when they add depth and meaning to the story, and for Prafulla, I would include a flashback which explains the story of how Raavi landed in Prafulla's arms. Imagine Raavi and Prafulla's first scene together, where Prafulla is lifting newborn Raavi into her arms, and Raavi grabs onto Prafulla's finger. Prafulla could've had an instant connection of, "I'll always love you!" despite knowing that Raavi will never be hers. Of course, 10 days later, when Raavi loses her parents, Prafulla could explain her point of view when she adopts Raavi into the family. In this day and age, boys are still preferred over girls (it's the sad truth 😢). Prafulla not only adopted Raavi into her family, but she also treats Raavi with enormous amounts of love. Giving into her wishes, giving bridal jewelry, doing whatever it took to get Raavi married to Dev, even if she had to put aside her ego. This is the Maami that I wish was explored.

The mess with Darshan Pandya? I wish Prafulla did it all to secure Raavi and Shivang's futures. Despite knowing that cheating her brother-in-law was wrong, Prafulla knew she wouldn't get the money as quickly and as easily otherwise... As for the kangans? Well, in the beginning, she takes them for the sole purpose of, "I love these!" However, as she slowly loses everything, those kangans could've been the final "gifts" she gives to Raavi and Shivang. Each of them could've gotten 1 kangan as Prafulla truly couldn't afford to give anything more to her children. However, once Raavi marries Shiva, all resolve of giving the kangans is thrown out the window. Shiva and Maami's relationship had always been unique in the sense that they act like Tom and Jerry with no age restrictions between them. They both poke and taunt each other (unlike Shiva and Raavi where Raavi does most of the poking). I would've loved to see a pre-marriage scene where Maami is preparing to give up her kangans for Raavi, and a post-marriage scene of Maami deciding, "I'll never give up the kangans as long as she is married to Shiva."

Thus, the kangans could've served as background tension for the rest of the series with Prafulla doing her best to get Raavi out of the relationship despite Raavi telling her she has no desire because she doesn't believe Shiva can give Raavi the happiness she deserves. In Prafulla's mind, Shiva is a man who couldn't complete his degree, is no better than a servant in his own store, and has extreme anger issues. Prafulla could've done crazy things, getting Raavi to speak to a divorce lawyer (cue Raavi's dirty look and, "I thought we discussed this"), showing Raavi pictures of NRI boys (with Raavi sighing and saying, "I'm not leaving Shiva" and Prafulla in her desperation saying something stupidly crazy like, "You don't have to, they are NRI boys who don't mind an extramarital affair" cue Raavi's annoyance), to setting up blind dates for Raavi (all while Shiva knows this is happening). When Shiva doesn't feel jealous in the slightest that Raavi is meeting up all of this, Prafulla could've "proved" her point that Shiva doesn't care (causing Shiva and Raavi's first misunderstanding).

However, Prafulla's tune changes when she sees Shiva's caring side. When she learns about Raavi's jewelry shop, Prafulla becomes Raavi's biggest supporter! She publicizes the earrings that Raavi designs all throughout the town, and this helps boost Raavi's sales. Each week she picks up Raavi's new designs, she could meet Shiva where initially, they have their usual kangan war... but as time passes, they begin to cool down. Shiva sees Prafulla's excitement for Raavi, and Prafulla sees the efforts Shiva puts in for Raavi. As time passes, Prafulla learns that Shiva doesn't touch a single rupee of Raavi's money, which completely changes Prafulla's opinion of Shiva. At Raavi's store opening, she finally gives Raavi the kangans because she's fully accepted Shiva as a son-in-law, and Shiva gives Prafulla new kangans because she was Raavi's staunchest supporter.

Janardhan and Kamini Seth

"I didn't raise you all these years just so you could abandon us."

Janardhan and Kamini are problematic. They are emotionally abusive, manipulative, and extremely prideful. They don't take losing very well; hence why they are particularly angry with Rishita and how she point blank ran away. I would love to see a story where Janardhan and Kamini put all their hopes and pride in Rishita because they know Keerthi is too good for her own good. I want to see a storyline where Janardhan and Kamini introduce Rishita to many different business vendors and politicians because it is Kamini's dream to have Rishita take over the political empire some day.

However, when Rishita runs away to be with Dev, their egos speak more than anything else. Janardhan and Kamini's first step is emotional abuse (what they are already showing right now) of abandoning Rishita by excluding her from the family and preventing her from meeting her mother. They think everything is going well, but when Janardhan loses business and Kamini loses votes, their second step is to kidnap Rishita (however, the goons kidnap Raavi instead, with Shiva following them). When that doesn't work, Janardhan decides to hit Rishita where it hurts most: the business she opened. He tells her that she is only successful because she is his daughter, and that without him and Kamini, she is nothing. He tells all his business partners to pull out of Rishita's business, and this leads to Rishita doubting herself and speaking to Dev about her insecurities (this conversation could've been the pivotal point in DevTa's relationship with Dev supporting Rishita and telling her that her father and bua are wrong)

Once Rishita's independent business slowly declines to the point of bankruptcy, she decides to help Dhara at Pandya Store, and that is when she gets to know Dhara better. She understands the meaning of family, and she understands how the Pandya family are different from her own (this whole track could have been Rishita's redemption angle with GauRa and Dev supporting her at the sidelines). Eventually, Janardhan and Kamini try to target Pandya Store (thus affecting Raavi's earring business), and this time, the entire family stands together, Rishita including, to protect the store. The family wins and saves Pandya Store.

When Rishita speaks with Janardhan and Kamini, they ask her why she stays with the "middle-class" family, especially when she could have all the money in the world if she stayed with them. And she responds she stayed because the Pandya family stood by her during her darkest moments while Janardhan and Kamini abandoned her. She tells both of them that she learned how to forgive and forget through Raavi, and she wishes to make Raavi proud of her, so she's willing to forgive and forget all the mistakes they've made. However, she also warns that if they try to touch the family again, she will not be so easy with them. Janardhan is angry that Rishita could abandon them so easily, but Kamini tells him it is not worth it. She's already lost significant political appeal and Janardhan has lost many influential contacts to the Pandya brothers along the way. Kamini tells him that if Rishita really wants to come home, she can.

*After thinking long, I realized that not all stories need to have happy endings. A few girls in my family eloped, and to this day, they are not invited back home. I think it's important to show, in ITV at least, that happiness can come in all different forms. In my version, I would like to think Rishita finds her happiness while she is with the Pandya family, and not with her family.

Anita

"I didn't think I would find happiness after making such a selfish decision. Why... why do you keep coming into my life? Why do you keep taunting me with the promise of love?"

Each person has different standards and levels of annoyance, and for me... I cannot tolerate people who lust after a married or taken individual. Which is why I believe Anita's character to be brutally destroyed by the CVs... there's really no redemption for her at this point! None whatsoever!

In my version, I would retain Anita's pre-haveli days. She is extremely regretful of everything that happened... especially when she sees Dhara living the happiest of lives with Gaumbi and the rest of the Pandya brothers. She is resentful of experiencing undue hatred from the Pandya brothers, despite letting go of Gaumbi all these years. In short, Anita is very convinced she would never find happiness in her life after making the mistakes she's made. She's convinced she will be single until she gets to know Hardik.

Anita and Hardik's love story would be one of fate. There would be multiple (filmy) scenes of "fates wants them together." But, both of them ignore these signs as mere coincidences and both of them agree that love isn't in their future. However, both of them continue to meet coincidentally at the Pandya House as Hardik goes to see Dhara, and Anita goes to see Raavi. They somehow always get stuck in the same room together, and slowly, their relationship improves when Hardik begins to crack awkward jokes of the Pandya brothers causing Anita to agree and laugh.

Soon enough, they look forward to meeting each other, and begin to meet each other outside of the Pandya family house. Dhara has a hard time trusting Anita, but if the 10 years of loneliness taught Anita anything, it was to stand up for her rights. Anita tells Dhara that she enjoys Hardik's company and Dhara has no right to tell Hardik who to meet and who not to meet. Hardik is impressed by this and begins to pursue her romantically, which Anita doesn't understand. However, when she realizes what he is doing, she immediately shuts off, not trusting that she could ever find love.

Hardik would patiently shower his love for Anita, and slowly, as the days pass, Anita begins to melt and trust again. Her relationship with Dhara also begins to improve when she starts to help out at the store (since Raavi set up a small section for her earring business). Eventually, Anita marries Hardik, finally realizing what love means.

This piece on villians is so beautiful and logical👏

Wished Pandya Store would have been like this😊

We cannot connect to characters who are evil without any proper background or reason

Wow Avi...the post on villains was super amazing❤️

We need you as the writer of PS...For a moment I felt so bad for all the villains...so much can be extracted from them and all we get to see is same repeat of their evil monologues and cringe worthy dialogues🤢

Mami- For a moment, I felt so emotional reading the first few lines....Mami has been the mother for Raavi..she has literally made Raavi her world...How I wish we could have explored this angle of her adoption...We could have connected on a different note with Mami. The kangan angle you have written has so much logic and justifies Mami's actions too....Sighhh I feel so bad now...What have they made Mami into

Jaanu and Motiben- These two have been cameo villains showing up with the same we will destroy Pandya parivaar dialogue

I loved your take and how Rishitha's character also grows along with them. I loved how you have linked Dhara and Raavi into this....this was too good❤️

Anita- This girl should have retained the pre haveli characterstics....PS people could have easily given us a message about how a broken marriage can make a person feel lost in life....Anita then finding her love in Hardik..the journey could have been so different and beautiful❤️

You have written it so well❤️

I loved reading you takes on the villains....this post actually made me realise what crap we are being served and how much we are missing in terms of nice and logical storyline.

You are amazing Avi❤️

Aha, fellow medical student right here. 😇

All though I'm only a second year MBBS and have been stuck at home with theory classes ever since it started thanks to the lockdown in TN, I feel for you sister.

Your writing is amazing, and your take on the story is great too.

Your take on the villains was just perfect. The same with your version of the Suman-Dhara, Gaura, and Shivi tracks. Personally though, I don't feel like Devta needed a childhood track. They could have simply explored their college love story better as 2 people who have crossed paths multiple times but never bothered to know each other better because of Gautam and Janardhan's purely business relationship.

They could meet during college and acknowledge but not really interact with each other until Rishita stands up for a friend, impressing Dev. He offers her his support and friendship when others hesitate and then they could have mutually fallen for each other.

I even have this headcanon that Dev would have been too shy to propose do Rishita would have and then teased him about it later on.
