Part 16

Raavi had seen exactly how Dhara arranged her thaali. She did hers secretly. Then she quickly went to her room to change her dress. She wrapped a red saree around her like a newlywed bride. Her hair was parted in the middle so Shiva could fill her hairline with sindoor. As soon as she heard Dhara exclaim that the moon was visible, Raavi rushed outside. The whole family went to the terrace for Dhara and Gaumbi to break each other’s fast.

She then realised the folly in her plan. How could she break her fast in front of the family? Raavi looked at Shiva for answers but he was too busy looking at his bhaiyya and bhabhi. Her stomach was growling with hunger and her throat was patched. But she was still amazed at how her bhootnath hadn’t broken his fast. Everyone knew Shiva’s one true love was his food. Yet, He didn’t take one bite for her.

Raavi cleared her throat loudly. Shiva looked at her and she whispered to him that they had to break their fasts. He didn’t say anything. Dhara took a bite of the laddoo which Gaumbi fed her and she fed one too Gaumbi. They had officially finished the karwachauth rasam.

“Tune mera vrat nahi toda toh main abhi faint ho jaungi.” Raavi whispered to Shiva.

“Oh nautanki. Thori der ke liye chup ho jaa.”

Krish clicked a couple of photos of the couple. Dhara asked Raavi to come down and help her with dinner. A couple of ladies from the neighbourhood had been invited for dinner. Raavi went down and helped Dhara in greeting the guests and to help serve the food. She wondered if her gadhera ate without her. But she knew he would never eat without making sure she ate. He was the best husband that way. Her phone rang after 20 minutes.

“Gadheri, chatt pe nahi aayegi toh vrat kaise kholenge? Bohot bhook lag rahi hai. Jaldi aa.”

Raavi literally jumped in joy. She took her thali and rushed to the terrace. Shiva had decorated the terrace with lights. She kept the thaali aside and hugged him tightly.

“Yeh sab mere liye?” Raavi asked.

“Tu bas mujhe promise kar ki tu humesha ke liye meri. Aur kuch nahi chahiye mujhe.” Shiva said.

“Shiva, main sirf teri hu. Lifetime commitment deti hu.” Raavi said.

Shiva smiled finally and Raavi hugged him again. “Chal ab jaldi khatam kar. Bhook lag rahi hai.”

Raavi nodded. She lit the diya on her sieve and looked at the moon. Then at her husband. For some reason she had a hard time controlling her blush. He smirked and took the sieve from her hand, and looked at her through it. Raavi then proceeded to do Aarti with her thaali. Shiva picked up the glass to make her drink some water but she refused.

“Pehle sindoor laga mujhe.” Raavi said.

“Uski koi zaroorat nahi.”

“Zaroorat hai Shiva. Tu sindoor nahi lagayega toh main paani nahi piyungi.” Raavi was adamant.

Shiva looked at the little sindoor box in her thaali. “Raavi, ab jab tu meri hai toh iski kya zaroorat?”

“Maine sachhi tujhe dil se pati maan liya hai. Toh iski zaroorat hai mujhe. Aur waise bhi main teri khoon bhari maang waali biwi banke nahi rehna chahti. Proper sindoor laga.”

Shiva chuckled and filled her hairline with vermillion. Then he proceeded to make her drink water and feed her a laddoo. Raavi did the same and fed him. She bent down to touch his feet as she had seen Dhara do for Gaumbi, but Shiva pulled her up and kissed her on the forehead.

“Raavi, Shiva!” Someone shouted.

Both of them turned to see that the voice had come from Dhara. She was standing and looking at them with wide eyes, and so were the rest of the Pandya family members. Jamna kaki was looking at them with a smile on her face. Raavi looked at Shiva nervously.

“Yeh sab kya ho raha hai?” Dhara asked.

“Dhara di woh… Karwachaut…” Raavi lost her nerve.

“Bhabhi, pyaar karte hai hum.” Shiva said.

“Raavi tune sindoor lagaya hai?” Gaumbi asked.

Raavi clutched at Shiva’s hand. She hadn’t expected people to find out this way.

“Lagana para Gaumbi. Kal se zidd kar rahi thi.” Shiva said.

Raavi gasped. “Jhootha! Gaumbi, yeh jhoot bol raha hai. Isne pehle meri maang bhari thi apne khoon se. Tab se main iski biwi hu ki rat lagaye rakhi hai isne.”

“Dekha Dhara. Main toh pehle se jaanti thi inke beech kuch chal raha hai. Isiliye toh main tujhe yaha layi.” Jamna kaki said.

Suddenly a loud noise was heard. The thaali which Dhara was holding fell onto the floor and she fainted. Gaumbi held her as she lost her consciousness. Everyone gathered around her. Gaumbi picked her up and took her downstairs to their bedroom. Everyone followed. Suman came there to see what the commotion was. Gaumbi splashed some water on her face and woke her up. She got up and looked at Shiva and Raavi with stunned eyes.

“Kya chal raha hai yaha? Aur Raavi, tune yeh sindoor kyu laga rakhi hai? Koi natak mein role mila hai kya?” Suman asked.

“Nahi maa. Raavi ab aapki bahu ban chuki hai.” Krish said. “Shiva ne aakhirkaar khaa hi liya shaadi ka laddoo.”

Shiva and Raavi looked at each other nervously. Suman looked stunned. But the star of the moment was Jamna kaki, who walked to the middle of the room and cleared her throat. Just as she realised that she had everyone’s attention, she begun her tale.

“First time mujhe shaq tab hua jab maine inn dono ko store mein dekha. Baal bikhre hue, piche ke kamre se nikal rahe the. Phir ek din jab main Dhara ke saath aayi yeh dono ghar mein akele the. Chup chup ke ek dusre ko dekh rahe the. Usi waqt main samajh gayi, par Dhara ne Dev ki baat karke mujhe confuse kar diya aur mujhe laga mera bhram hai. Waise toh main kabhi bhi dhokha nahi khati inn mamlo mein. Kitno ki setting karwayi hai maine.”

“Tu point pe aa Jamna.” Suman said. “Phir kya hua?”

“Phir ek raat maine Raavi ko store jate dekha. Store toh bandh ho chuki thi. Andar sirf Shiva tha. Main bhi wahi ruk gayi pata lagane. Phir 10 minute baad Raavi rote rote nikli. Mera shaq aur tez ho gaya. Ladki jab ladke se akele mile aur rote rote bahar aaye toh matter bohot serious hota hai. Aur mere iss shaq ko yakeen mein badalne ke liye main Shiva ke liye rishte leke aa gayi. Woh Ganga toh shaadi-shuda hai par maine Raavi ko bataya ki main uska aur Shiva ka rishta thik kar rahi hu, uske dil mein aag lag gayi. Uski aankhon ne mujhe sach bata diya. Phir toh woh Shiva ko kheench ke andar le gayi. Mujhe yakeen ho gaya inn dono ke beech kuch chal raha hai. Aur aaj jab yaha aayi toh function se dono gayab the, mujhe pata tha dono chatt pe milenge. Main sabko leke upar pahuchi unki chori pakadne ke liye.” Jamna kaki said.

“Aapko inke shaadi ka pata tha?” Krish asked.

Jamna kaki shook her head. Everyone looked at Shiva and Raavi for their version of the story. Raavi was blushing, still holding onto Shiva. Even Shiva looked embarrassed.

“Ab bolega bhi yeh sab kya hai?” Gaumbi asked.

“Bolna kya hai Gaumbi. Pyaar ho gaya aur shaadi bhi.” Shiva said.

“Matlab humare saamne nafrat ka jhaasa deke aap log pyaar wali rasleela khel rahe the?” Krish asked. “Maa, aapne galat naam rakh diya. Krish toh iska naam hona chahiye tha.”

“Chup kar.” Dhara finally said. “Aur tum dono, yeh koi tareeka hota hai? Hume bata dete. Hum karwa dete shaadi. Itna chupna chupana kyu?”

“Achha hi hai Dhara. Shaadi ka kharcha bach gaya.” Gaumbi chuckled. Dhara glared at him, so he stopped laughing.

“Actually Dhara di jab shaadi hui thi tab pyaar nahi hua tha. Phir bohot bada jhagra hua aur yeh mujhse naraz ho gaya. Phir jaake maine realise kiya ki main iss gadhere se pyaar karti hu. Aur yeh aaj jaake mana warna main apko bata deti. Aapse chupane ka koi iraada nahi tha mera.” Raavi said.

“Tum dono ne yeh sab koi khel samajh rakha hai?” Dhara shouted. “Aisa kaun karta hai.”

“Ae bhagori ki beti, ab shaadi kar li toh kar li. Kal pandit ko bulake jaldi se date fix karake shaadi karwa dete hai. Warna bachhe bhi ho jayenge aur hume pata nahi chalega.”

Raavi hugged Suman as she said this. She apologised to Dhara and the rest of the family. But the one person who took all the credit was Jamna kaki. She believed that she played cupid for Shivi. Shiva let that slip and hugged his wife tightly, getting a glare from Dhara. Raavi quickly kissed him on the cheek and apologised once again. Gaumbi burst out laughing.
