Part I

It was an ordinary day for the whole world but not for a girl sitting besides her husband in the hospital. Her eyes were shimmering with unshed tears. She was holding her husband's hand and was continuously praying for his survival. The night before was an unfortunate night for the girl. She was impatiently waiting for her husband-Fahd- when the bad news of Fahd's accident fondled her ears. 'NO, he cannot leave me.' She screams. There was another lady in the room clad in black burqah. She came near the girl.
"Nazia beti, don't cry. Your husband won't leave you." As the warmth of Phuppi Ammi surrounded Nazia she let the stream of tears to flow. She started crying hysterically when Phuppi Ammi took her out of the room. There, Shazia (Nazia's sister) arrived carrying a basket of fruits. When she saw her beloved sister crying, a thought struck in her mind, 'Is Fahd no more?' She moved forward and hold Nazia in her arms. "How is Fahd?" "Still unconscious." Although, Phuppi Ammi's words were not satisfying yet Shazia took a breath of relief.

"Shazia, took Nazia to home, she needs rest." Nazia looked at the door of the Fahd's room. She remembered Fahd's words, "Nazia, don't take tension, it isn;t good for my daughter." Nazia embraced Shazia and cried. Shazia consoled her sister with false hopes. Deep inside her heart she too knew that all is not well. Just then her phone rings, it was Moiz's call. Shazia disconnected the call and asked Phuppi Ammi. "Should I sent Choti Ammi at the hospital?" Phuppi Ammi refused. "Nazia's mother-in-law can not be left alone at the house and Nazia can not take care of her, right now. Let Salima be there and take Nazia at our home. At her own home, Fahd's memories will not let her to take rest." Nazia looked at Phuppi Ammi and Shazia. She wanted to scream that she has Fahd in her heart. If he isn't well, she can not take a breath but she remained quite. To announce husband's love openly wasn't allowed in their family. It was considered as a shameful act.

Nazia was lying on her front on the bed. She was holding her wedding picture. She stared at it and asked Shazia, "Will I be able to talk to Fahd once again?"
Sh: Ofcourse, why are you being so pessimist.
N: I don't know Shazia but I am so worried. I want Fahd back.
Sh: He'll come back have faith in Allah. He'll listen to your prayers.
The whole night, Nazia prayed for her husband's well being. She wanted to spend each second with her husband but due to her weakness she was said to take rest. And finally the sun defeated the knights of darkness and rose. The birds chirping welcomed the new day. Sajida came in the room, "Nazia, Fahd is taken to operation theater. The doctors have said that after the operation he will be fine. Keep praying Nazia." Saying this, Sajida hugged Nazia tightly. She wasn't able to face Nazia a night before. She cannot see tears of agony and pain in Nazia's eyes.

The wave of sadness was filled in the room. In the lounge, women were reciting the Holy Quran for speedy recovery of Fahd. The arm chair was occupied by the lady deeply covered in melancholy. She was staring at the door. Maybe, she was waiting for her son's arrival. In the corner, another lady was sitting; on her laps was her grand-son. She was continuously chanting, "Haye, the only son of this house and now he is fighting for life and death." These words were tearing the heart of the mother. She couldn't reply her back. Her all courage and strength was going down. She was sitting on the arm chair completely numb. She wasn't saying anything nor she was responding to anyone's questions. The cracking of door was heard in the room. The lady rose from the chair and looked impatiently at the door. There comes, her daughter-in-law, Nazia. Nazia felt reluctant while going inside. She remembered the day when her mother-in-law confronted her. "How will I face her? What if she is still angry with me!" Before Nazia could proceed, the lady came towards her, "Nazia, forgive me. Please, forgive me." Nazia was stunned. What is Ammi's fault? "Nazia, if you won't forgive me, I won't be able to see my son's face again." On hearing this Salima came forward, "Why are you talking like this? What have you done wrong?" The lady gathered the courage, "I deserve this. I used to pray that you lose your child. I always wanted a grand-son when I hear that you are bearing a girl, I was ashamed. I thought that if you will lose your child, the truth will never come out. And look, now my son is going away from me." Razia (the lady sitting in the corner) stood up, "Oh, so you were not having pota, obviously everyone is not lucky as I am. Well, my daughter-in-law gave me this sweet grand-son and you; you are always a step behind than me." "Stop it." Nazia screamed. "Is there any competition going on? You people have made relations a joke." Saying this Nazia headed towards her room. The ladies tried to stop her but she was in no mood to listen to anyone.

In her room, she was sitting on her bed. How much she wanted to hate Ammi, yet she can't. She was praying for her (Nazia's) daughter's death. It was unbearable for Nazia. She had never expected such shameful act from Ammi. But something was disturbing her. Unintentionally, she headed towards lounge. She came near Ammi, Salima was still by her side. Although she had shown that how disgusted she was hearing Ammi's talks. "Ammi, let's go to the hospital. Fahd needs us." "Have you forgiven me Nazia." Nazia remained quiet. "I don't know. Maybe, I cannot forgive you but it is true that I cannot disrespect you because Fahd respects you a lot and I don't want him to have soar feelings for you because of this truth and for that, I don't want to change my attitude with you. As far as forgiveness is concerned so I need time for it. My heart isn't answering me." Salima came forward, "Nazia, I'll also go with you. Habiba too needs rest." Nazia agreed and they all set off.

Shazia was getting ready when Moiz came in the room. "How is Fahd?" "Alive."

M: What kind of reply is this?

Sh: The reply which you don't want to hear.

M: What do you mean? Why are you not saying clearly?

Sh: I am saying clearly. You don't want him to be well. If he will be alright, how will you be able to fulfill your strongest desire?

M: Which desire?

Sh: Leave it Moiz.

M: Tell me. I want to know.

Sh: Let me go, I am getting late.

M: I won't let you go. First, tell me why you are being so rude to me.

Sh: BECAUSE I KNOW THAT YOU ARE BEHIND FAHD'S ACCIDENT.

Uttering this, Shazia left the room. There were a lot of tensions in her life and she didn't want to discuss them anymore.

Everyone was waiting outside the operation theatre for good tidings. The red light went out. A doctor came out and approached the ladies. Nazia came forward and impatiently waited for doctor's words. The doctor looked at Nazia, "Are you Nazia?" Nazia replied in affirmative. "The patient wants to meet you." Hearing this, the dull face of Nazia was enlightened by a big smile. "Is he all well?" "Yes. Let us shift him in the room and then you can meet him. The operation was successful and the patient has gained consciousness." Nazia embraced Shazia. Everyone congratulated her. But she avoided when Ammi came near her. She said in a low tone to her, "Your son is back." Ammi put her hand on Nazia's head, "No Nazia, our Fahd is back." Nazia looked at her and then hugged her.
