thanks for the update jenim. well, it is kind
of obvious that they are going to eliminate
sam in the next round.. just to make it easier
for manankatti to win the competition.😡 i
just hope that sam have guts to say that she
is much, much better than manankatti.

Grand Finale Update - 02/23

Finally, without messing up the show any further, they announced the winners and gave out the awards today. Besides a small suspense element, the rest was pretty much as expected. The group and duo category winners were those whom we had guessed weeks ago.

There was some confusion in announcing the dance theme for today's show. While some of the contestants were given "Any theme" as a theme for their dance, some contestants were given "medley" as their dance theme - that inconsistency between themes and contestants was quite distracting, but otherwise it was a novel approach.

First, The Teams

RUnit was asked to dance for a theme. They did a fusion dance. It was something new and not seen before on this show. These guys looked quite professional - their dance seemed like a mix of various dance types, but the theme was not very clearly portrayed by them (that's what the Judges said). The lead guy said that they were trying to convey the World Peace theme. But I'm pretty sure the ordinary junta who watch this show, wouldn't have grasped what they were trying to say via their dance.

Amazing Dancers were also given a theme. They put their imagination to good use and probably were influenced by the show that Lawrence Master's physically challenged kids put up on MM2. They had 2 dancers tie up their legs behind their back a la Appu Kamal in Aboorva Sagodharargal. So, they acted as the kids with handicap who were trying to learn dance from the rest of the team who were haughty and would look down on them. So the two dancers who are handicapped (as per their act) would learn to dance and compete in a contest, against those who looked down on them. It was a good theme and I can imagine it would've been pretty hard for those 2 dancers to have done the show for probably a whole 5 minutes or so, dancing fully on their knees. A difficult job very well done! 👏 👏

The Judges appreciated the dancers who had done the Appu act, for going the extra mile - both dancing and emoting as well. They were told, they were not only super dancers, but super performers as well! Very True!

When the winners were about to be announced for this category, a confidence check was done. RUnit's lead guy already said that he doesn't feel confident that they are going to win.. Poor chap! Just as we had expected the last few weeks, Amazing Dancers were awarded the trophy for the Team!

On the SuperDancers website, there's mention of a cash prize as well to the winners. But they didn't announce any such thing on today's show to the winners. Quite fishy!

Next, the Duo

Jack and Jill were given a theme. Their theme was.. I'm not too sure what it was, but it was also about a handicapped pair. And which we came to know only at the very end. They danced for a medley of hit numbers and their performance was good as usual.

Finally, when everyone was wondering what their theme was, they acted as homeless people (street dwellers) with Jack in crutches (a handicap without a leg) and Jill was blind. And all the dancing that they did before that, was just their dream. Even though the theme was not as striking, their dancing was just awesome. Jill is too good a dancer. Today, she was given due credit for her dancing skill by both the male Judges.

Bala and Shalini's theme was love in the city vs. love in villages. IMO, thesed 2 danced quite well. But of course, Malvika had already picked J&J as the winner. I think Bala and Shalini already knew that this is how it's going to turn out. A very sportive pair. When they were asked to explain their theme about city love, Bala gave a very funny explanation. It showed his sense of humor - I truly think this pair should have been given at least a runner up award. Too bad, they didn't get anything.

To have come this far on the show and being finalists and all, the SuperDancer producer/Director should come up with a Runner-up award or every category. It is quite sad and disappointing to see that the losing team doesn't get anything except the usual, "you also danced well" dialogue from Malvika.

Hey Ginny.. I went to have a quick dinner.. my whole kitchen is a super mess (I was still cooking when the show started and I left it as it was to watch the show) and I'm sitting and updating here, 'cos I know some of you would be waiting to find out what happened in the Solo category.. 😆
And yes, you are partly right! 😉

Finals - Solo category

What an anti climax! This would be the only way to explain what happened in this show 😆

I'm so greatly relieved to see Mels put the party image in her post. Even though I'm a tad disappointed, I want to party with Mels as well..

Probably to make it easy for the Solo contestants, they were given "Medley" as their dance theme.

First, it was Ms.Mannangatti. (Supree.. see..ungaloda expression has become a favorite among audience here..Now Anita has a patta paer, thanks to Supree! 😃 )
She came in with a gigantic peacock like costume setup and I thought she was going to be dancing with it throughout. But she had it on, for hardly a minute. She danced for some item numbers, some of them repeat dance steps. But she also did a short piece for a western bit and it was mostly like dance that we see in the night clubs. I should say that what she did was quite good in that piece.

But there's something about her.. I don't know if it's her height or face or lack of grace or whatever, that makes her dance not so enjoyable. And I'm saying all this on neutral grounds, without really disliking her for what she had "done" to the Judges and the hosts. As expected, the Judges and the hosts went all aboard praising her performance, energy and what not! That guy host, he kept asking Ms.M "Is there even a dance category, that you don't know to dance? You're so good at everything!.. Pls tell us what is it that you don't know to dance?".. Puke, Puke.

I was getting really sick when Malvika started praising her as usual - I was ready to throw up! I kept saying to myself, blah.. blah.. blah.. blah.. blah .. until all the Judges went thro a round of showering flatteries on her. And finally they were done!

Then came the crowd fav Samyukta. Even though the theme was just a dance medley, she also picked a theme for her dance. Poor girl! She did all this despite knowing from the very beginning of the finals, that she won't be picked as a winner. Her theme was that of a handicapped girl, who dreams of being a good dancer. Her dance was really very beautiful, she did a classical piece and a western piece. In both, her dancing was totally awesome.

But then again, the Judges said that she lacked energy. Having said the same comment to her the last time, at least the Judges could have come up with some other lame criticism this time. It was quite laughable when all the Judges cited energy as her weak point, when clearly she danced with lots of energy. Who are they kidding?

What Malvika said to Samyu, really got on my nerves. She said, something to the effect of "You dont have the energy required to become the Super Dancer" or some such cr*p. Samyu was trying to look bold and confident, but when the Judges gave their scores, which was one score less than what Ms.Mannangatti got, you could see that Samyu was close to having tears in her eyes. Poor baby! She easily was the best dancer in the show, whether she got the award or not!

When they did a confidence check on her, she nicely said, "Winning on this show is only secondary to me. I am privileged to be a part of this show and enjoy having come this far to the finals!". She looked very beautiful today, with gold face art and a very nice dance costume.

The last contestant was Gopinath.
His performance stole the show! Having seen quite average performance from him, all these episodes, I didn't really expect much from him. I think he's really weak on classical and kuthu-item-dance numbers, but very strong in Western dance. Today, he mixed some salsa, ballet, hiphop and all of Michael Jackson.

His dancing for the "Billy Jean" bit by MJ was just so cool, as Meli had mentioned. He did very credible moon walking and some techno dance. He changed his outfits and hats about 3 times during the dance. The Judges were completely bowled over by his performance, you could tell... esp Malvika.

In the break time, the team which was kicked out in the Quarter finals "In Sync" were invited to dance for the Polladhavan hit number "Engeyum Eppodhum". If you recollect, this was the sister and brother, who danced as a pair. They were just superb.. I don't know the reason why they were called to perform today. But it looks like, they are already guaranteed the winning title in SuperDancer - 2. Malvika encouraged them to participate in SD-2!! I really hope to see some new Judges on this show!

Anyway, time to announce the winners in the solo category. During the confidence check, Ms.Mannangatti was so confident, she kept saying that she had given her best. When they asked Gopinath, he said that he thinks he'll win 100%.

..

..

..

And Yes.. he was right! Somewhere, along the line the Judges, the Producer and the Director of the show must have realized that it wouldn't help promoting Ms.M as the winner.. c'os besides being a fav of the Judges, she really had nothing else to her credit. May be, they wanted to avoid the catfight between the girl contestants.
Anyway... drumroll

drumroll..

And the winner was Gopinath!
I would've really liked for Samyu and Gopinath to have shared the title! I still think that SD-2, should award something to the runners-up as well.. That's what normally happens in any competition, that there's always something in it for the runners-up!

Ok.. to all those who've been watching this show and also following this thread.. Please post your thoughts as well..It would be more fun!
