REDEMPTION 173

7 billion people on the planet and almost everyone can't find someone to love. Evidence of this can be seen on dating websites. Thousands of dating websites. If it were easy, why is everyone still looking? Because love isn't like that; love is epic; we're not looking for "somebody to love"; we're looking for ONE PERSON whom we RECOGNIZE. "Hey, I know you, like, here inside my soul I know you, because I know me and me is somehow you!" And that's what EVERYONE is looking for. People think they're looking for something easy or something simple. But they're not. They're looking for something epic. Something real. Warts and all! And THAT is why almost everyone is not in love with anyone. Because in a world filled with 7 billion people, the chances of finding exactly that, are simply ridiculously low. We don't fall in love with a checklist. We fall in love with finding ourselves in another. In mythology, we are taught that two parts of one, when together, is too powerful. Zeus feared such power, so Zeus split each into two and put them in different places in this world. Only the strongest would find their other half, again.C.JOYBELL

I am you and you are me
though we are two we still are one
for your spirit moves in me
your voice whispers in my soul
the kisses you planted still burn my lips
and the strength of your touch still rages
and drives me forward in this universe called earth
every step i take is towards you bringing you closer to me

The tribals stood in silence as both Thenmozhi and their guardian, the gigantic tiger stood facing the sun that hung over the jungles of ancient burma.

Thenmozhi stood up and watched as their ship came closer and closer to the shore and into the natural harbour and the flat bottom vessel smoothly sailed into it and then the anchors were dropped. The sails were expertly closed and tied to the twin masts that stood towering over all of them.

Then the native tribals who had stood obediently along with the tiger started mumbling and their voices soon rose in a crescendo of chorus that reached far and wide into the sky above and deep into the forest.

Thenmozhi glanced sideways at the tiger who opened his jaws wide open in a happy grin " they have spotted their spiritual leader. They have waited for his arrival for many decades and now that he is going to be among them, they cry out their happiness and are also announcing to the world the coming of the new prophet."

" You mean yeshe, the little child. But i thought that his was a well guarded story and that he had fled his native land fearing for his life.Yet,here so far away from his homeland,he is being welcomed with so much love and respect."

The tiger spoke in thenmozhi's soul " mother, the stories of most spiritual leaders follow this pattern wherein they have to flee, hide, recover, rise and then come back to deliver their destiny. But know this, yeshe is just the seed and the fruits of his life will be enjoyed in the milleniums to come.Although that is all in the future,i guess it is going to be okay now that you are here besides him."

Themozhi smiled sadly " So i am here for yeshe and not for me."

The tiger nudged thenmozhi and its eyes flickered in a green fire " mother,we all have our purposes and journeys to make. How and why is left to the one who is called The Source."

Thenmozhi looked at the tiger who returned her look with loving and understanding eyes and as if begging her to ask the right questions " how is that these people know yeshe and have awaited his arrival for so many years, decades like you say?"

" Everything in this universe happens and exists for a certain purpose. It does not matter how small and insignificant it might appear and how little strength it might possess for the very seed of all things great and mighty are buried deep in its core.

Mother, yeshe being here and you accompanying him as his guardian are all predestined and preordained. It might just be that you and me are here for this very purpose. But who knows about what lies ahead tommorrow and far away in the future."

Thenmozhi tried and failed to control the tears that gushed and poured from her eyes and the tiger knowing what was eating at his friends soul, gently rubbed his head against her hand and thenmozhi placed her head on his head and cried mumbling " what about Azhagan and when will i see my son,if ever again?'

The tiger lifted his head and thenmozhi thought for a second that she saw tears in its eyes and then the tiger growled " My queen, you think i don't want to see him again. You think i don't want to be by his side and yours and charge into battle against our enemies.I too like you long to run through the forest by his side but then it is up to The source."

Thenmozhi sat kneeling and frozen in shock and then slowly " who, what are you and how do you know about Azhagan?"

The tiger smiled " My dear queen,i know everything for i was there with him and you.I was there by his side fighting with his enemies that had been sent by Rajendra cholan, that night when they attacked perumalvaram.I was there fighting with my last breath trying to defend and protect my master's mother Avini and i died watching her take her last breath on his laps before my time ran out and as did my purpose."

Thenmozhi totally shocked and mystified " But who are you? you said you were there besides both of us but i don't remember you."

The tiger stood up and time stood still for a second and then the tiger filled itself with a strange green aura that thenmozhi recognised for it was what she and Azhagan were born with and the powers that they were blessed with.

Thenmozhi stood in awe as the tiger shapeshifted and slowly a mighty lion seaparated itself from its form and stepped forward and knelt before her and smiled and then it came to her and she knew who the tiger was for she recognised the lion and the mark it carried on its left leg.

The tears of joy and tears of sadness poured as one from thenmozhi's eyes and she whispered " Buddha, you are Buddha the lion. You are his and you always walked with him as his shadow. But why here with me and why now?"

The tiger whispered " I am here now by your side as your shadow. For you are now the light that will lead and brighten those that need protecting and defending. You are the earth and the water that will carry and nurture yeshe and his story will be your story. You my queen are Redemption."

Thenmozhi turned hearing the words mother and wiping her tears waited with her arms wide open as yeshe ran into them and they were one the lost mother and the lost son and the world spun on in the 13th century forest of ancient burma.

I am Buddha and i am here now by her side.I will leave her side only in death.Together now we walk in the light and death and ruin will rain on those that dare step in our path.We wait, both of us for the day when we will meet him again and be one with him again.

These are the stories of heaven and hell and that of falling and rising to redemption.

"Everyone always wants to know how you can tell when it's true love, and the answer is this: when the pain doesn't fade and the scars don't heal, and it's too damned late." Jonathan Tropper, The Book of Joe

All humans have fingerprints and yet none are the same and that includes seven billion souls who exist at this moment on planet earth and the trillions probably who have come and gone.None share the exact and same DNA and even among twins there are differences.

Love and all emotions follow and flow thus in the same manner and even if the master plan is the same for everyone it still feels so different for each and everyone for love and all its emotions are abstract and felt in the soul and that again is so very different in each and everyone of us.

Love, this four letter word appears as an expression in poetry, stories, films, paintings, buildings and more or less in every moment of our daily lives.Invisible,it is the very engine on humanity and life thrives and plods on and makes mountains appear like mounds for some and mounds appear like mountains for some.Love breathes life to some and brings death and a state of being undead for many.

where does this begin and when does it begin? Love, sweet love. But wait, the love one feels, the wings one sprouts is one's own feelings and creation and then this begs the question of does one need another to reciprocate his or her love.Is one sided love good, true and a state of misery or is love of two hearts the perfect union.

The point to point bus that Jeeva and raman were riding on was filled with men and women of a political party whose leader was going to be told in a few hours if he was going to jail or get bail or worse, set free with all charges dismissed for lack of evidence.

Jeeva looked at Raman " don't you think it will be more convenient and easier for you to drive a car or a two wheeler.Maybe then you can reach the court faster and at your own pace."

" Maybe, but i had a bad accident when i was in college and broke my leg and left wrist and after that my parents made me promise that i would never ever buy or ride a motorcycle.I do have an old maruti car that belonged to my dad but i hardly take it out."

Jeevitha with questions in her eyes " oh,so you live with your parents then."

" No,my parents are in Trichy.my dad is a retired pensioner from the TNEB and my mum still teaches in a Govt school and has another few years before she too finishes her career.I live alone in a small, one bedroom outhouse in a compound that houses my mothers family friend.I think we are kind of distantly related but have never kind of established those connections. They are very nice people and leave me alone and i have a separate gate to come and go and so that is that. What about you? do you live with your parents?"

Jeeva nodded " yes, along with my younger sister who is in her last year in medicine. We live in a small 800 sq ft,two bedroom house. My dad is a retired engineer from the railways and my mum works at home."

Raman not understanding " i am sorry, did you say your mum works from home.So what work does she do?'

Jeeva threw her head back and laughed loudly and raman thought that he had never, ever, heard such a beautiful noise before that moment.

" I am sorry for what i meant was that my mother is a housewife but somehow i find that word insulting and demeaning to what a woman and most importantly a mother does in the house. She cooks, cleans, sweeps, washes, goes to the shop to buy vegetables and provisions and so much more. And describing all that with just one word is in my personal opinion downright insulting."

Raman " but surely your dad must be helping your mother with some of the work."

" He used to but now the arthritis has more or less crippled him and he is not able to walk much.Still,he sits at the table and cuts vegetables for my mother. The arthritis is slowly reaching to his shoulder joints but he smiles bravely and carries on with the pain."

Raman felt her pain " i am sorry to hear about your dad's condition.i hope he gets better."

Jeeva " all of us are hoping for the same but i doubt it is going to get better."

Looking at raman " Please excuse me for burdening you with all this family stuff.I am sure your head must be filled with a thousand more important things and here i am adding to all that with my stories."

Unknown to them, their bus had traveled through mount road and came to a halt in the parry's terminus and the conductor whistling, announced " Parry's corner, parry's corner.Irangunga"

Both cursed the bus for reaching their destination so fast and slowly stood up and waited as the sea of white clad party men began to shout slogans " viduthalai sei.viduthalai sei" and began to get down from the bus.

Raman not knowing what or how to leave the moment with jeeva, decided as always to do the simplest and the right thing and whispered" bye.Take care and all the best."

Jeeva stood watching raman crossing the street into the high court compound and turned and slowly made her way into armenian street.

Raman stopped and turned to see jeeva walk away and enter armenian street and with a smile that seemed to reach into his heart hurried to his chambers.

The bus conductor chandran looked at driver thangaraasu " what do you think about the new couple? you think they will fall in love or will remain apart like the windows on both sides of our bus?"

Thangaraasu thought for a second " I don't know about love chandra but i sure hope that they remain good friends."

Chandran laughing " poda, friendsa.I think and i want them to fall in love and hopefully get married and live happily ever after."

Thangaraasu laughing " let us see for in our 20 years of service, how many couples, lovers have come and gone through this bus of ours and how many of those have successfully ended in a permanent relationship."

Chandran nodding " I know, not many for most are like the rain that falls during summer.fleeting and far between. And then either the girl or the boy change their routes or change their destination or both simply disappear. But i have a good feeling about these two for both lool like solid and safe souls."

Thangaraasu " chandra, even if they are good people and do fall in love and want to get married, the real problem will arise when both confront their families with their love and marriage proposal.Even real and true love can be broken, corrupted by parents and their needs and sometimes their needs are genuine and then there is no proper and right answer to all those questions.God only knows."

Both took out their tiffin boxes and chandran made a face and whined " enna kodumai saravana, marubadiyum thakkali sadam."

Thangaraasu " ennakku marubadiyum puliyogare sadam."

Both shook their heads at the regular and cliched feast or fate that their wives had gifted them and then exchanging some of their food, they hurriedly ate their breakfast for they would have to make the return trip back to Saidapet terminus.

"I don't understand dating.. and the other things that people do.. all I know is that you ought to find the one you recognize. The one who gives you four arms, four legs, four eyes, and has the other half of your heart. There's only one of those, so what are all the other things for? Like dating?"

REDEMPTION 174

"Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours."

Thenmozhi rose to her feet and immediately everyone knew that something had changed for she looked different and strangely both the tiger and she seemed to be covered in a strange glowing aura.

Thenmozhi looked down at yeshe " child,do you know what your purpose in this life is?"

Yeshe looked up at her with his sweet eyes and nodded and thenmozhi looked at him " then it is mine too and i will see that it is done alive or dead."

She looked at the ships captain and crew " my dear friends, there are no words to thank you and sing your praises for you are the bravest and kindest souls that i have had the privilege to have known. But now your work here is done and i want you to return to safety and to your lives."

Reaching to her side, thenmozhi brought a small pouch and handed it to the captain " in this pouch are jewels that once belonged to me in another life but i have no use for them. Please take it for it will give me great joy to know that it will bring peace and prosperity to your lives."

The captain broke down and fell to his knees and all his men followed too and looking into her eyes " my queen, the most valuable and precious thing that you can give us has already been given with your words and friendship. These jewels do not mean anything to me or my men for we will go back to sea to fight pirates and to save as many innocent souls as possible. If we die doing this then we will die in peace and in dignity knowing that we upheld your legacy and will die in the knowledge that we fought by your side for the same cause."

Thenmozhi bowed and thanked all of them and then whispered to the captain " a mighty and evil force has been following us and i don't want you to cross paths with them and risk your lives. They will come ashore and will follow us,but that is for me and the jungle to handle and take care of.so,fill your sails with the breath of the sea and fly away, far from here."

She looked at all of the ships crew " I give you my blessings and my prayers for your safe voyage.Go in peace my brothers and my children."

Thenmozhi took out her conch and blew into it and the air filled with her breath as the conch sounded death and mayhem to those that would harm her friends.

All of them stood watching the ship slowly leave the harbour and soon it crested the horizon and then Thenmozhi looked at yeshe and the old monk " little one,do you know the way to the place where you need to go?"

Yeshe " mother, this place is a source of a very powerful energy and it beckons me to it for that is the place where i need to sit in meditation.A voice calls and whispers to me saying that it is only in this place that i will find the strength and thoughts to rise to the next level and only in that place can the energy enter me and work its designed purpose."

" How far away is it child and are there any particular landmarks near it,for that might help in the direction of our journey.maybe, some of these natives might have heard about it and help us travel quickly and in the right direction."

Buddha the tiger growled and thenmozhi looked at him " My queen, the little master will know the place only vaguely but me and the one who circles in the skies know the place very well."

Thenmozhi looked up to see the large kite let out a shrill war cry and nodded to it and the tiger " thank you Buddha and please forgive me for forgetting that you both are here to guide us and protect us."

Thenmozhi with a little difficulty conveyed to the native burmese tribals that she, yeshe and the group would be travelling deeper into the jungle towards a sacred place and that they need not follow them and requested them to stay back.

The oldest of the natives came forward and using sign language that they would follow where ever the tiger and yeshe went and that they would follow to protect them from other savage natives of whom some were cannibals.

Thenmozhi bowed her head in thanks and asked everybody to rest for a while and gather their energy before making their first steps towards their destination.

The elderly native spoke quickly and in commanding tones and like lightning his warriors climbed nearby coconut trees and brought down dozens of tender coconuts and a dozen of them scampered into the jungle and soon came back with their arms filled with fresh fruits.

After being on the ship for nearly a month, everyone were famished for fresh water and fresh and juicy fruits and everybody ate their fill and soon drifted off into a deep sleep.

After resting for a while,Thenmozhi looked at her friend in the sky and whispered to him to lead the group towards the destination and the party of nearly fifty men, women and child slowly began the adventure.

The tribals covered the right and left flank and in the front while a few of them ran in advance to watch over their path and alert the others behind them for any possible danger.

Buddha and thenmozhi took up the rear flank and as one circle they all began to move rapidly into the forest when she stopped in her tracks and running back to the edge of the shore stood staring into the western horizon.

Buddha stood by her and whispered " I too sense the presence of them and most importantly the presence and vibration of a very powerful soul who comes on that ship. From his vibration,i feel he is a very intelligent and highly evolved soul and i wont be surprised if he knows we are here and also knows what we are."

Thenmozhi angrily " then we will let the others go on ahead and both of us will make a stand here and now and wipe out these people who dare to chase us."

" My queen, there is still a lot of time for that encounter for they are too wise to your power and will get into a fight with you unless they are well prepared. But i wonder what that wise, old man on that ship is really after for my mind tells me that he is after something and that something has everything to do with you. So,until then,we will wait, watch and if things should get worse then we will take them on and end the problem once for all."

Thenmozhi nodded and along with Buddha hurried into the dark jungle to catch up with the others and soon vanished into the dense, tropical forest.

Out on the open sea and about fifty kms away from the shore, the messenger of the caliph raised his hand and beckoned the caliphs brother who was the commander of the men on both the ships.

" Jalaluddin, send the other ship back to the caliph and request him for more men."

Jalaluddin " Abba, what do you mean by this request for there are nearly 300 of our best and elite warriors on these ships. With right timing and planning,me and my men can destroy a kingdom if need be and you doubt our powers and skills against a woman who leads a group of monks and sailors."

The old man smiled " Jalal, that woman who is no ordinary mortal and don't lose your anger when i tell you that ten of you cannot stand against her in battle. And more importantly, something else walks behind her as her shadow and it is a very powerful spirit and i am yet to understand its origins and be certain if it is a beast or a man or something else altogether. But,please listen and carry out my request for that is the right way to go about things."

Jalaluddin nodded and then quickly asked that both the ships be brought close to each other and then commanded the other ships captain to return to Arabia and deliver personally the handwritten scrolls of his and the wise man's and wished his men a safe voyage. He asked most of the men to transfer to his ship and carrying just a skeleton crew the other ship turned and slowly made its way to the west.

It would skirt Andaman islands, run along the coast of ceylon and then filling itself with supplies on the malabar coast would turn to its three month journey to the land of Allah and the caliph.

"Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
It is not far. It is within reach.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere - on water and land."
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

Life is made when two come together as one or not as modern techiniques now include artificial insemination,in vitro and surrogacy. But deep in the womb x and y must come, meet, mate to beget new life and take another step in evolution.

I do as many of you wonder and ponder on this incredible journey of each soul as it embarks from the shore of life to disembark on the shore of death.Death is such an ugly word and such a depressing state to put a full stop to a life, its smiles, happiness, its many fights and tears and well it just is.

All things will come to pass and this story too will pass as i too will one day pass. But here i am right now singing from my soul about strange and wonderful beings and places. Here and now i am sharing my soul and imagination that is the very essence of what makes up satish and his dreams and needs and tears.

Thank you for your time and opinions and i give you all my love and wishes.

Sunday on Bessie beach

For me and the other regulars on the beach, the weekend is time spent enduring pollution of all kinds as the area is assaulted by two legged creatures.

Monday morning is always a traumatic time for it takes all the workers of the beach and nature to do its bid in covering the events of saturday night and sunday night.

Broken bottles are the biggest worry for they lie with their sharp, jagged fangs wide open and dregs of colorful liquids still shimmering in the light as the brands announce themselves with various corny and exotic names.I confess it has been quite sometime since i have been to the booze shop or Tasmac as it is generally known for the few times in a year that i consume alcohol it is with the good wishes of my dear ones and in the safety of their vicinity and that of their generous bar.Once or twice a year at venkets or sometimes with sanjay at the race course and in the glow of hospitality of murugesh's home.

I cannot understand the mindset of these creatures who pass of as humans and as to what prompts them to leave broken bottles on the beach and let me confess that i have it in me to pick up a broken bottle and tear their tummies to let their entrails spill out to bask in the sunlight or as is the norm in the moonlight.

I worry a lot for the safety and well being of innocent souls like my furry, four legged friends and also a lot of kids and teenagers who play volleyball and catch with frisbee's on the beach and always whisper prayers and loudly warn them to please wear shoes while they are running around.

Coke bottles,KFC boxes, cigarette packs, corn cobs make up for most of the garbage and all this littering even though garbage bins are placed around in vantage points all around the beach.

It begs the questions as to the intelligence and stamina of these people who rather walk a few footsteps and dump their garbage into the bin ignore the warnings of littering and just chuck it where they sat and walk away.

If push comes to shove,i think these beings will eat, shit, sleep and copulate in the same place and not even notice it.I wish some well placed Tornado with intelligence touches down and sucks these beings away and deposits them far away into the emptiness of space.I am going to work on that.

Every sunday, there is some medical check up or other and you bet it is free of course(nothing comes free) and you should see the people lining for a free check up and sometimes the bait is a free newspaper.Obviously, they have to cough up their mobile nos and house address.Me,i look at these daily wages reps and politely smile and say no and when they insist, the ugly and rather sick expression makes up my face and they usually beat a hasty retreat.

Happily,i reserve all the cootchie cooings for my furry, cold nosed, four pawed mangy beings who sit and around and sing or rather howl and whine their pleasure and some of the older ones with cataracts loudly complain that i have been absent for a few days and that they missed me.

One eyed karuppan and slightly stinky old spotty whispers " bro,we don't have much time left here on the beach and so please come and visit us for sometimes we would have departed without saying our goodbyes.

Yes,goodbyes for Vaalu as i used to call the dogs sans tail and browny with his crippled front legs have departed and i miss them terribly for i had known them for nearly nine years.

But i tell myself that goodbyes be damned for the moment now is vital and precious and if we have lived and loved then that is enough and that will do.

"We've lost a lot of years, but you can't lose love. Not real love. It stays locked inside you, ready for whenever you are strong enough to find it again."

"When I was fifteen, all I wanted was to go off to some other world, a place beyond anybody's reach. A place beyond the flow of time."
- But there's no place like that in this world.
- Exactly. Which is why I'm living here, in this world where things are continually damaged, where the heart is fickle, where time flows past without a break."
Haruki Murakami,

"The years just pass like trains
I wave but they don't slow down"

"A fine glass vase goes from treasure to trash, the moment it is broken. Fortunately, something else happens to you and me. Pick up your pieces. Then, help me gather mine."

Raman aandalum,Ravanan aandalum

Amma as the late chief minister Jayalalitha was called by all passed away on DEC 5TH 2016 and just because this decade has been promoted to 2017 does not mean that she died so long ago but just a two months back.
And well, all those who bitch about bad shit happening in tv serials and films are now having a ringside, front row tickets to witness the battle for the position and that position entails screwing the people of tamilnadu by looting them silly.

Do the people of Tamilnadu deserve any better after selling their votes for 500,1000 and in some case 5000 rupees and for booze and biriyani? NO,they do not deserve any better than the options that are before them for even a sex worker,a prostitute sells her body to make things better for those who live under her care but selling your self respect, righteousness and mostly ones own conscience is far worse and is done only by creatures who are selfish, stupid, careless and have no right to exist on this planet.

Two months since her best friend passed on and a shadow which lived quietly for nearly 35 years has taken shape and risen. From the darkness, this shadow has stepped into lime light of the national television under the very guise of the late AMMA.

Sasikala dresses like amma, walks like amma, flashes the two leaves like amma but her voice is not amma nor will she ever be amma and will remain Chinnamma.

Two months, just two months and the mourning of their leader has taken back seat and she now remains in a small size alongside sasikala aka chinnamma.

The same damn thing happened when MGR passed away and eventually presidents rule was what brought calm and peace to tamilnadu in the late 1980's and i suspect it will happen again.

Sasikala and all you AIADMK party members, stop and ask yourself and stop and think what will happen if elections come around for the voters are going to give you all such a whupping for acting like barbarians and fighting over seat and berths when your leader,AMMA is still freshly decomposing in marina beach.

I bet both MGR and amma are having a laugh over the mess they have left behind and watching how the scavengers are circling for the dangling bait of political power.

Do these MLAS have any self respect, thinking powers and seriously are they alive or just zombies who are controlled by power and money.

Who elected these people? Not you my lovelies but those beings who sold their souls for money, booze and biriyani.

Jeeva worked for a company called K.K. ENTERPRISES and her boss was called K.K.AGARWAL.In all these years she had never heard him being called by another name but K.K. and she like all the others in the office addressed him as just " sir".

He was a gujarati whose family had migrated to Tamilnadu just after the country had got its Independence and had been born to his parents a few years after that.It was a known fact that K.K. sir's father swore to the fact that his fortunes took off after his son was born and had refused to have another child in fear that the next child might bring bad luck and put a dent in their wealth and new found status.

Lalchand agarwal,K.K. sir's father had given his son the best of education and true to his parents wishes and dreams, young K.K. did not disappoint and did very well in his education and soon joined the company. In just five years, the crown prince had changed how K.K. ENTERPRISES did their business and had taken it to a far higher level than what it was and the company thrived under K.K.AGARWAL's management.

Married life beckoned and his wife came from one of the richest and most prestigious gujarati families in chennai for all saw the potential and greatness in the young K.K.Agarwal.But somehow fate did not bless them with a child and maybe since it was angry with his father Lalchand for not wanting another child, the stork bypassed the young K.K. and his wife but fame and fortune came with arms laden with wealth and status.

Years passed, decades passed and with time,K.K Agarwal's parents too passed on and then one day it struck him hard that with time he too would pass on and then decided to slow things and take it one day at a time.Slowly, very slowly he sold his holdings and companies that were scattered all over south india and decided that he would stick to the few that were in chennai and which had been established by his late father. It was at this time nearly eight years ago that Jeeva came for an interview for the post of K.k's personal secretary as it had been suddenly left vacant with the death of Gopichand,a distant relative of their family and who had been with his father from the beginning.

Jeeva had a lot of other plans before she came for the interview and got the job and started work the very next day.She had finished her B.A.Economics and had wanted to go on and do her M.B.A.But more importantly she was in love with Bharat her college mate and they had been dating for nearly six months now.It was the beginning of the summer holidays and also the time when everyone anxiously waits for their results before planning for applying to various colleges. For marks, percentages dictate in which college one will get a placement leave alone an application form.Jeeva was not too worried about all that for she new her marks would range between the late 80's to 90's percent for that is where her grades always stood from the time she went to school.

So summer beckoned her and her boyfriend and the others from her college and they all planned to drive down to ooty and kodaikanal and spent time there for Bharat's dad was a very rich man in madurai and owned villas both in ooty and kodai.

Bharat had looked at jeeva " It will also be the right time to meet my parents for they want to know who this mysterious woman is that i have been talking about."

Jeeva blushed, smiled and accepted his lips as they covered hers tenderly and both lost themselves in the passion of love.Secretly, jeeva wanted him to make love to her but it was he who had restrained himself and her and lovingly declared " after our marriage and probably in some exotic resort in goa or further up north."

Jeeva who hated cold weather " poda, naa varale.you know i can't bear too much cold."

Bharat with a shocked and hurt expression " then how will we recreate my all time favourite song, pudhu vellai mazhai ingu pozhigindrathu."

Jeeva smilingly planting a kiss on his lips " no,i would rather stay back in namma chennai and dance to Rukkumani Rukkumani Akkam Pakkam Enna Satham...'

Until one gets a job and starts earning for themselves, one is dependent on their parents for all their expenses and well whether it is a pen, pencil, fees, books, bus pass and right now pocket money, one needs to petition either their dad or mum and for jeeva it was her mother for her dad had just retired and more than anything he seemed unwell most of the time.

For jeeva and sujji as her younger sister sujatha was called, the only time they actually sat down with their parents was during dinner and if some important programme was on tv and the only television set was in the small hall of their house. So,it was not a mystery that both were not aware of what was happening to their dad and how sick he really was.

Even his retirement day came and went without a whisper or whimper and only both the parents hugged and consoled each other and jeevas mum had whispered softly to her husband " it will be okay.i will reduce the household expenses as much as possible and try to reduce the burden that you still bear after all these years."

After dinner and the time showed with both its hands that it was 10pm,jeeva slowly left their bedroom to go an talk to her mother in privacy while her dad sat watching the late night news.

But the minute she opened the door, her ears picked up an unfamiliar sound of her dad crying and he was sobbing like a child and hearing it for the first time,it froze her limbs and broke her heart.Strangely at first jeeva did not know what to do for she had never seen her dad in this state before but finally mustering strength to make her limbs move, she slowly moved towards the hall wanting to know what the problem was and then heard every word that her parents were talking and she knew her life would never be the same again.

Some are born great, some become great when gigantic burdens are placed on their shoulders and when they are called out to make sacrifices. Some smile and rise up to the challenge and knowingly place their gentle and tender shoulders under the weight and stand up and just go about doing their duty. For in the end life is a duty,a responsibility and should be done without anyone asking you to do it or push you to it.For in the very word duty lies your purpose and priority and if you don't do your duty to those who love, care for you then who will you perform it for.

we are each born somewhere, unknown to each other and yet we travel from different directions towards each other and we finally meet up.What an adventure this life is and what a voyage it must have been for all of you.
all of us and each and every one of us has song,a story to sing and write about and every bit of it is special and different.

BOBO NOV 2016 TO FEB 2017

We first met while you sat on top of the sand mound
I saw you and you saw me and i called out with my palm full of biscuits
and you came tumbling down,a form like cotton candy and you put a paw
into my palm, soft, trusting and full of love
then you flopped on your tiny back and begged me to scratch your little tummy

Even when the loud orchestra played the jolting and jarring noises
of a building being constructed your puppy yelps and squeals
brought us joy and relief from those ungodly sounds at ungodly hours
on your four soft paws with a red belt around your cream neck
you raced from one end of the road to the other end
making friends with everyone who came in contact with you
even my lifeless zombie neighbours paused, bent and scratched your ears
for it gave them some energy and a new zest in their steps as they went away

As for me Bobo you remain a part of me and i know and i have known many puppies
and have lost many of you furry pals over the years and yet the pain never stops
and the scars never heal

R.I.P sweet Bobo

Hole in my soul

Was it my imagination or was the whole street in mourning,i thought as i entered the street which i had inhabited until a few weeks ago and i stopped to ask the workers who were hauling bricks for the new Ramaniyam construction as to how Bobo was doing and she shook her head and informed me that she had passed on the previous afternoon.

Death has been my constant companion and we meet up at his place of choice at least a few times every year and as always the whisper of death meant Battle stations and i shut out all noise and stood frozen and walked away.

I looked up at the trees and all my crow friends looked down with their black eyes, twinkling as if in sorrow and as if they tried to tell me that, yes Bobo was gone.

Pombili sat in a huddle, very quiet and that is unusual for she always jumps up on all fours trying to reach my face to smack my cheeks with her wet nose and here she sat, huddled, crushed as if the air was gone out of her and i stood in vain whispering Bobo,Bobo hoping that she would dart out of the bush where she hides her stolen slippers or from under the car where she usually sleeps between Pombili and Kaveri.

A piece broken, air let out, an empty space where Bobo was and though i tried hard i felt immense sadness fill my being and well thought " today you bobo, soon me too".

It is very hard when young life is taken away,a bud crushed before it bloomed and Bobo was just three months and too young and too little to pass on where ever the dead pass on.

I tried to get angry, tried to fill my soul with violence and rage but i am too old and a wee bit wiser to do that and what i did when i was just Bobo's age.

We try to find a meaning,an understanding,a reasonable explanation for death and suffering and eventually we do find peace, even though it is false,an illusion. But then isn't this whole life an illusion and everything so momentary.

Selective, forced amnesia does work and sometimes self hypnosis also helps for one needs to function and live on to fight, face and grieve again for another loss and yup it is coming, sooner than later.

Funnily, even though i have no clue as to what the dead feel and do,i secretly think that they are in a better place than the living for the living exist on their ego of immortality and hardly realise or understand that the train that they boarded has left the station and is arriving in its destination.

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most famous American Movie stars. With characters like Rocky and Rambo he is a household name in the hearts of millions.
During birth, a wrong gynecological procedure caused Stallone to have one sided paralysis. At school, his middle class being and his facial paralysis became a thing for others to make fun of.
He started body-building because he wanted to frighten those who bullied him. Slowly he started thinking of a career in movies.

Around 1974, he had a pregnant wife, a dog that he loved, a lot of bills to pay and no success in his movie career.

What he still had was a belief in his dream that he will make it big.

Soon a time came when he went broke. He was heavily under debt. Restless, anxious, stressed and still loaded with hope that he WILL make it big.

Things got so bad that he had to sell his wife's jewelry and ended up homeless. Sleeping at the New York Bus station for days the cold American winter forced him to choose between electricity and his dog. He stood outside a local store and sold his dog for $25.

Two weeks later, on TV he watched a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner. That match was like a flash of divine inspiration... For the next 20 hours he sat and wrote the script of what today is a cult movie, ROCKY.
In the words of Stallone, "After nearly 1500 rejections", he got a production house to offer $125,000 for the script.
Despite the poverty, pains, pregnant wife and lost dog... His dream was to STAR in the movie as the MAIN LEAD.
In an era when heroes were super handsome men and spoke fluently, a body builder with a facial paralysis that made him stammer while speaking, made Stallone the wrong choice for any role.
The studio bluntly rejected his offer... And Stallone went back home with another failure.
A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for just the script, and not him.
He refused.

Soon they offered $350,000 for the script but not him.
At that time everyone was pushing him to accept. It would be MAD not to do so. He was making a fortune.
He still refused.
Someone in the studio really loved his script, and as fortune favors the brave. They finally accepted to give $35,000 for the script and have him as the lead star.
The rest as they say is history!

The movie was made for $1 million and went to make around $200 million.

It won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Film Editing.
Stallone was a "bankable" hero for the next 20yrs, till the late 90s... with his movies making billions of dollars.
And what did he do with the first $35,000?

He stood outside the liquor store, where he sold his dog, for 3 days. Identified the man who had bought it, and finally got him back for $15,000.

AND IN THE WORDS OF ROCKY BALBOA -

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
