JANNAL ORAM-38 - Utopia
The term utopia was coined from Greek by Sir Thomas More for his 1516 book Utopia, describing a fictional island society in the south Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South America.
A utopia is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens. The opposite of a utopia is a dystopia. One could also say that utopia is a perfect 'place' that has been made so there are no problems.
I think,i am pretty damn sure that a utopia,a place where everyone lives in peace, harmony without any fights or misunderstanding is not possible. At least not in this century and maybe possible when man has destroyed himself and most of the world in the name of god,the very god who he worships for creating earth and life.It is really funny to think a terrorist praying to god and then taking up weapons to kill life which is the very creation of god.
But a utopian family is possible,i think. Will it be boring? will it be mundane and cliched to live a quiet and calm life without any disturbances or differences and where each has a job to do and most importantly a job to their liking and choosing. This is a question,a subject left open to discussion and arguments and me and you will talk about it someday when we are all older and wiser.
Back in saidapet, the biggest worry for jeeva's mother Kamakshi was how bad her daughters choice of a man was going to be.The words of suja were like thunder and lightning landing in her head and heart and she spent most of the time pacing the house like a lost puppy looking for its mother.
Manigandan looked at his wife " Kamuma, come here."
Kamakshi worried and anxious looked at the clock " it is nearly 4.00 pm.Whatever it is say it quickly for i have to sweep and mop the house."
" Listen, love and things such as marriage are not based on looks, money and position and should be based on faith and character. But sadly, todays world is all about packaging, marketing and presentation which are all temporary things and will not last the long and arduous race called life."
Kamakshi looked at her husband frustratedly but mani smiled " who was i when you agreed to marry me? What am i now if not a burden with my arthritis riddled joints?"
Kamakshi leaned forward and shut his mouth with her hands " please, mani don't ever say those words for i would rather be dead before hearing them again."
She knelt in front of him and kissed his cheeks " you are a brave, brave man and i will be happy if our son-in-laws are half as good as you are and have an iota of your character and soul."
Mani smiled sadly and then making a funny face " madam, your judgement is very wrong.I am not worth that much love and effort."
Kamakshi smiled " poda mani, you take things so lightly but i cannot, at least not when it comes to our jeeva for all said and done i am her mother and it breaks my heart to see her settle for anything less than what she deserves.I know i am being shallow and biased but as a mother that is how my bloody stupid human mind works."
Both looked at each other and mani nodded " I know but she knows what is best and good for her."
Jeeva looked up at the clock and seeing it was nearly 4.15 pm,hurriedly tapped her phone and opened the OLA app and entered the details and the app informed her that the sedan was just a minute away and then sent her a message with the details of the cab and driver.
Not wanting to waste any time, she quickly exited her cabin and waving bye to everybody also informed them that she would talk about it the next day and update them with all the gossip.
All of them wished her and her family the best and in the quiet of their hearts prayed that she would find someone nice, really nice and as good as a human being as she was.
Jeeva ran down the steps and was surprised to see Ashraf, k.k agarwal's driver standing there.
Wondering what her boss's driver was doing there, when the man himself had left just before lunch hour " ashraf bhai, what are you doing here? is the boss coming back to the office?"
Ashraf bhai " no ma'am,i dropped him off and have come back to hand over a few parcels to you."
" Parcels, what parcels. Is it something to do with office supplies. If that is the case, just leave it in my cabin and i will take a look at them tomorrow morning."
Looking at her wrist watch," ashraf bhai,i have to hurry now.I will make a call to hema, the secretary and inform her to help you out."
But ashraf with a smile " Ma'am,those parcels are for you and the boss told me to personally hand them over to you and also drive you where ever you need to go and finally drop you back home."
Jeeva totally confused "what parcels?"
Leading her to their exclusive car parking that belonged to their company, ashraf opened the back door of the white merecedes and jeeva saw that the entire back seat was filled with boxes from Agarwal bhavan.
She looked at ashraf and he smiled " Jeeva beta,i know what you are thinking but i swear on allah that this is nothing and that you deserve more and more from life."
" Please get in and let us be off before the traffic gets bad."
Jeeva nodded " thank you ashraf bhai" and getting in cancelled the ola booking which promptly alerted her that a penalty of 100 rs would be levied and debited from her cash wallet.
Ashraf drove expertly and soon they reached t.nagar and entering nalli silks, jeeva picked up a lovely silk saree for suja and then picked up one for her mother too for she knew how much she enjoyed being given gifts.
It was nearly 6.00 pm when jeeva along with ashraf bhai entered the house carrying all the parcels of sweets, savouries and clothes.
Carefully placing all the boxes on the dining table,Ashraf bhai folded his hands and greeted jeeva's parents with respect and looking at jeeva " you both are very lucky to have a daughter like jeeeva ma'am for she is equal to a 1000 good sons."
Saying bye and wishing them all the best, ashraf bhai left them and jeeva hurriedly took out her mobile and dialled K.K.Agarwals number and when he answered " Thank you sir.Thank you very much."
" Jeeva,i am the one who should be thanking you for all the hard work you do and the way you look after the company.More importantly,a daughter does not need to thank her father for taking care of her.All i want is for you and your family to be happy.Bye."
Kamakshi and mani came near their child " baby, are you okay? any problem?"
Jeeva wiped the tears from her eyes " problem, what problem appa.life is good and perfectly okay and now raman has entered my life,it is even better."
Suja came out of the room, wiping her hair and complaining " bloody hell,i just cannot seem to wash this hospital stink off my hair."
Jeeva pulled her by her hair and smelling her head " it smells good and there is no stink."
Taking out the parcels, she picked up the one she had picked for her suja and gave it to her and asked her to wear it and suja planted a kiss on both her cheeks and ran off into the room to get ready.
Jeeva handed the other parcel to her mother who hurriedly opened it and yelled in joy " my favourite orange color.I just saw this new model in an ad last week and was thinking of asking you for it but here you are with it."
Jeeva looked at her mother " listen, its getting late and so go get ready for both me and appa know how both you women like to spend time before the mirror."
Kamakshi " what about you?" and before she could say more, jeeva looked at her " listen both of you.today is suja's day and it belongs to both them kids and it is not about me or anyone else.Okay.please remember that."
"It's wrong to deprive someone else of a pleasure so that you can enjoy one yourself, but to deprive yourself of a pleasure so that you can add to someone else's enjoyment is an act of humanity by which you always gain more than you lose. Thomas More
