world music day- Fte de la Musique

Music.Like love it cannot be encompassed and fully described in just one word. For the word music immediately brings out a long, long list of songs, favourite songs that each and everyone of us has and that which we treasure with great emotion.

Songs like books are are best enjoyed in solitude for then the music and lyrics really reach out and touch you with their meaning for that is what was intended by the composer and singer.

Being an Indian, most of my music that i heard growing up was film based and that is where it starts with hindi music of the late 60's and as i have mentioned many a time, songs from " caravan" were my dads favourite and that dominated the air waves in our small courtyard. The property made up of small rooms that passed off as houses were rented out and in those lower middle class days,it meant we along with the tenants slept out in the open under the night sky and listening to hindi songs late into the night and the toss was who passed out first, the batteries in the small bush radio or my dad, drunk to his ears.

At about two or three i used to stand near the small rickety gate that gave entrance to the road and a world outside although the road that ran parallel on the other side of the courtyard had strong sturdy wooden doors.

Tamil music along with the latest kannada songs by dr.rajkumar from " Bettada huli sang duets along with some devotional songs of lord shiva made for a grand sweets mixture like symphony and i used to swing on the rickety gate watching our cow being milked inside a shed and that which had more space than the small rooms that passed of as houses.

Nearly 50 meters spanned the courtyard from one side to the other side and come 8.00 am my mum used to hand me a 20 paisa coin and asked me to go eat something and that meant my idli akka living next door.Barefoot, torn khaki shorts barely hanging on my non-existent bum,i ran along the red enamelled walls and reaching next door stood peeping into the corridor made up of granite slabs.

Idli akka's place was always overflowing with people and in all sizes and shapes and from all faiths and music too flowed splitting our ear drums from the mosque nearby and so allah joined shiva and dr.rajkumar.

But the best music was at the pump where water came in shifts of three hours, once in the morning and once late in the evening and well, the ladies who came with their many colored buckets, brass vessels made their own music and composed their own symphonies and that too on a daily basis, generously sprinkled with choicy words from tamil, telugu and kannada and questioning each others ancestors and what they were in the previous births and in what forms they would be reborn in the next.

sounds, words, music,r.d burman,kishore,t.m.s and so much more.

"Life is not made up of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, or years, but of moments. You must experience each one before you can appreciate it. ? Sarah Ban Breathnach

For a person who put his mobile in silent mode, one among the many do's and don'ts that made a part of his checklist while meeting clients and more importantly his boss,Raman knew that he would not be repeating the same mistake again and yet he smiled at the simple but cardinal mistake for jeeva had now taken over and filled all his senses, awake and asleep. But this time he knew that he would not over think and over analyse his thoughts and emotions and more importantly what he felt for his soul told him that this was love and in love you never, ever swam against the flow and just went along with it.

He knew she was special, not just because he was so madly in love with her,but she was special in many ways of the world too.By her hard work,by her discipline and unflinching loyalty towards her family and blind willingness to sacrifice everything that was precious to her for the sake of those she loved.

Raman lingered on these thoughts as he mulled over the call he was going to make to his client Anwaruddin in regards of meeting the owner of unicorn steel.

With nothing much to occupy her morning in the office,Jeeva called home and her mother answered " Don't worry for i will keep it simple and tasty.Okay."

The thought of her mother in the kitchen preparing for the evening was something she had completely forgotten and hurriedly " mummy, don't sweat it for i will pick up what is needed from Agarwal bhavan which is just two minutes walk from here."

Kamakshi worriedly " why jeeva, are you worried that today's visitor's might not like my cooking?"

Jeeva smiling " ennadi kamakshi amma, you are acting with your own kid and that too the one who taught you how to act."

Kamakshi let out a deep breath of relief " Thank god baby. Two of my favourite serials are hanging on a cliffhanger situation and my mind was full of them and i was standing here wondering what to cook and like an angel you have saved me."

" Angels, you are right amma. For it is the duty of angels to work and look after their gods."

" Wow,hear that and just a second ago somebody was telling me that i was acting and is always accusing of me repeating senti dialogues from my favourite film "vietnam veedu".

A brief moment and just when she was about to tell her mother what she planned on picking up,kamakshi whispered something and jeeva not catching what she had just heard " Mum,can you say that again for i didn't hear you properly."

Her mum spoke, but she spoke in such hushed tones that jeeva had to strain her ears to pick it up and then kamakshi " that's all baby.thanks for it is a big relief not having to cook up something special and also at the same time trying to get ready and look presentable for the evening."

Jeeva knew that the moment she ended the call, her mother would run into her room and stand in front of the cupboard and stare in confusion as to what saree to wear for the evening and whispered " Kamakshi, remember that red saree i got for you last month.wear that for you will look really beautiful in that.Okay,i have to go now and i will see you by 5.00 or at the most by 5.30 pm.Bye."

But little did the mother know that her daughter had heard her words and that too loud and clear even though she had whispered it in hushed tones.

The beautiful thing about love and pure love is that there are no roles and if so then they are reversed and often for the daughter had heard her mother whisper " agarwal bhavan,if you can please bring a few rasa malai's and also basundhi too."

Seeing her boss enter his cabin,Jeeva got up and went towards his cabin.

K.K " Good morning jeeva beta.I know i had told you that i might be not coming in today but my golf partner had some urgent work to attend to and so i thought i would come in and just potter around the office."

Jeeva hesitatingly " sir, i need to leave a bit early today for there is a small function in our house later in the evening and i need to purchase a few things for that. So,rather than leave by 6.00 pm which is our usual closing time i want to leave by 4.00 pm and only if that is okay with you."

" Jeeva, please don't hurt me by asking me for permission for you practically run the company single handedly.Forget 4.00 pm,if you feel like it,leave right now.But do tell me what the occasion is for let me also enjoy this joy that seems to be ablaze in your face."

Jeeva with a bright smile " sir,my sister is bringing home her fiance to meet all of us and if everything goes well, then the wedding will not be far away and that is something i have been working very hard for."

Looking at her boss with happy tears " I want to buy her some clothes and also have to pick up some sweets from Agarwal bhavan. The sweet part will be done in a matter of minutes but it is the clothes part which will take most of my time.I though if i can leave early then i can reach T.Nagar and get it done before traffic and also the ramzan crowd takes over."

K.k. smiled " okay beta.my blessings to both of you and my best wishes to your whole family. Please don't forget to invite me for the wedding."

Jeeva smiled ' thank you sir and no i will not forget for you will be the chief guest."

K.k Agarwal watched with pride and great affection as jeeva went to her cabin and picking up his mobile, called a friend " Arre, sushant beta, this is K.K speaking.listen, there is going to be a small function in my family and i want these sweets delivered immediately. To my office.yes beta.Teek hai.remember, the best.No compromise."

Sushant agarwal, the current boss of Agarwal bhavan in chennai placed the phone down and yelled " Bhaiya ka phone." and standing up went inside the kitchen to personally watch over the preparations for K.K.Agarwal's orders.

JANNAL ORAM-38 - Utopia

The term utopia was coined from Greek by Sir Thomas More for his 1516 book Utopia, describing a fictional island society in the south Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South America.

A utopia is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens. The opposite of a utopia is a dystopia. One could also say that utopia is a perfect 'place' that has been made so there are no problems.

I think,i am pretty damn sure that a utopia,a place where everyone lives in peace, harmony without any fights or misunderstanding is not possible. At least not in this century and maybe possible when man has destroyed himself and most of the world in the name of god,the very god who he worships for creating earth and life.It is really funny to think a terrorist praying to god and then taking up weapons to kill life which is the very creation of god.

But a utopian family is possible,i think. Will it be boring? will it be mundane and cliched to live a quiet and calm life without any disturbances or differences and where each has a job to do and most importantly a job to their liking and choosing. This is a question,a subject left open to discussion and arguments and me and you will talk about it someday when we are all older and wiser.

Back in saidapet, the biggest worry for jeeva's mother Kamakshi was how bad her daughters choice of a man was going to be.The words of suja were like thunder and lightning landing in her head and heart and she spent most of the time pacing the house like a lost puppy looking for its mother.

Manigandan looked at his wife " Kamuma, come here."

Kamakshi worried and anxious looked at the clock " it is nearly 4.00 pm.Whatever it is say it quickly for i have to sweep and mop the house."

" Listen, love and things such as marriage are not based on looks, money and position and should be based on faith and character. But sadly, todays world is all about packaging, marketing and presentation which are all temporary things and will not last the long and arduous race called life."

Kamakshi looked at her husband frustratedly but mani smiled " who was i when you agreed to marry me? What am i now if not a burden with my arthritis riddled joints?"

Kamakshi leaned forward and shut his mouth with her hands " please, mani don't ever say those words for i would rather be dead before hearing them again."

She knelt in front of him and kissed his cheeks " you are a brave, brave man and i will be happy if our son-in-laws are half as good as you are and have an iota of your character and soul."

Mani smiled sadly and then making a funny face " madam, your judgement is very wrong.I am not worth that much love and effort."

Kamakshi smiled " poda mani, you take things so lightly but i cannot, at least not when it comes to our jeeva for all said and done i am her mother and it breaks my heart to see her settle for anything less than what she deserves.I know i am being shallow and biased but as a mother that is how my bloody stupid human mind works."

Both looked at each other and mani nodded " I know but she knows what is best and good for her."

Jeeva looked up at the clock and seeing it was nearly 4.15 pm,hurriedly tapped her phone and opened the OLA app and entered the details and the app informed her that the sedan was just a minute away and then sent her a message with the details of the cab and driver.

Not wanting to waste any time, she quickly exited her cabin and waving bye to everybody also informed them that she would talk about it the next day and update them with all the gossip.

All of them wished her and her family the best and in the quiet of their hearts prayed that she would find someone nice, really nice and as good as a human being as she was.

Jeeva ran down the steps and was surprised to see Ashraf, k.k agarwal's driver standing there.

Wondering what her boss's driver was doing there, when the man himself had left just before lunch hour " ashraf bhai, what are you doing here? is the boss coming back to the office?"

Ashraf bhai " no ma'am,i dropped him off and have come back to hand over a few parcels to you."

" Parcels, what parcels. Is it something to do with office supplies. If that is the case, just leave it in my cabin and i will take a look at them tomorrow morning."

Looking at her wrist watch," ashraf bhai,i have to hurry now.I will make a call to hema, the secretary and inform her to help you out."

But ashraf with a smile " Ma'am,those parcels are for you and the boss told me to personally hand them over to you and also drive you where ever you need to go and finally drop you back home."

Jeeva totally confused "what parcels?"

Leading her to their exclusive car parking that belonged to their company, ashraf opened the back door of the white merecedes and jeeva saw that the entire back seat was filled with boxes from Agarwal bhavan.

She looked at ashraf and he smiled " Jeeva beta,i know what you are thinking but i swear on allah that this is nothing and that you deserve more and more from life."

" Please get in and let us be off before the traffic gets bad."

Jeeva nodded " thank you ashraf bhai" and getting in cancelled the ola booking which promptly alerted her that a penalty of 100 rs would be levied and debited from her cash wallet.

Ashraf drove expertly and soon they reached t.nagar and entering nalli silks, jeeva picked up a lovely silk saree for suja and then picked up one for her mother too for she knew how much she enjoyed being given gifts.

It was nearly 6.00 pm when jeeva along with ashraf bhai entered the house carrying all the parcels of sweets, savouries and clothes.

Carefully placing all the boxes on the dining table,Ashraf bhai folded his hands and greeted jeeva's parents with respect and looking at jeeva " you both are very lucky to have a daughter like jeeeva ma'am for she is equal to a 1000 good sons."

Saying bye and wishing them all the best, ashraf bhai left them and jeeva hurriedly took out her mobile and dialled K.K.Agarwals number and when he answered " Thank you sir.Thank you very much."

" Jeeva,i am the one who should be thanking you for all the hard work you do and the way you look after the company.More importantly,a daughter does not need to thank her father for taking care of her.All i want is for you and your family to be happy.Bye."

Kamakshi and mani came near their child " baby, are you okay? any problem?"

Jeeva wiped the tears from her eyes " problem, what problem appa.life is good and perfectly okay and now raman has entered my life,it is even better."

Suja came out of the room, wiping her hair and complaining " bloody hell,i just cannot seem to wash this hospital stink off my hair."

Jeeva pulled her by her hair and smelling her head " it smells good and there is no stink."

Taking out the parcels, she picked up the one she had picked for her suja and gave it to her and asked her to wear it and suja planted a kiss on both her cheeks and ran off into the room to get ready.

Jeeva handed the other parcel to her mother who hurriedly opened it and yelled in joy " my favourite orange color.I just saw this new model in an ad last week and was thinking of asking you for it but here you are with it."

Jeeva looked at her mother " listen, its getting late and so go get ready for both me and appa know how both you women like to spend time before the mirror."

Kamakshi " what about you?" and before she could say more, jeeva looked at her " listen both of you.today is suja's day and it belongs to both them kids and it is not about me or anyone else.Okay.please remember that."

"It's wrong to deprive someone else of a pleasure so that you can enjoy one yourself, but to deprive yourself of a pleasure so that you can add to someone else's enjoyment is an act of humanity by which you always gain more than you lose. Thomas More

Redemption 193

Rudran's fingers ran over the touch screen and then placing it to his ear, waited for it to be answered and holding renuka in his right arms, looked into her eyes and then placed a soft kiss on her lips and whispered
" I am calling babu to inform him that i am coming to see him and mum."

Looking at her eyes " no,stay here for now.Maybe we will go see her after we get married, but please for now stay at home for it is more secure."

Babu answered the call and rudran spoke to him for a few minutes and then went outside and after informing renu's parents requested major sanjiv for a vehicle but Kandaswamy mudaliyar interrupted their conversation and asked rudran to take one of his personal vehicles.

Asking rudran to follow him,Kandaswamy mudaliyar quickly walked to the rear portion of the house and pressing a key pad waited as the steel shutter slowly slid up on its motors.

Both rudran and major sanjiv bhatia looked at each other and shook their heads totally amazed and in awe at the sight of all the cars parked inside.

Rudran's eyes took in all the six cars with one flick of his eyes and then looked at his future father-in-law " sir,all of them look brand new except for that BMW 760Li High Security which is supposed to be the safest car in the world."

Kandaswamy mudaliyar looked at the cars " they are all just vehicles rudran and can be bought at any time and at any given price, again and again but my families lives and well being cannot and they are worth more than all the money in this world."

Walking towards the armored bmw " all the vehicles are serviced and ready to go at a moments notice and all their gas tanks are full and the keys are all inside the glove compartment."

Looking at rudran " pick any one you like and i guarantee you that they will offer better protection than what the government provides."

Major sanjiv mumbled to rudran " sir,it sure looks and feels that being rich and loaded with money is a pretty damn good feeling."

Rudran with a smile on his face and feeling like a child in a chocolate store stood before the BMW 760Li High Security " Major,do you recognise this BMW?"

" yes sir,it looks familiar.I think our prime minister uses the same kind of car."

Rudran clapping his hands " give the man full points" and then looking at Kandaswamy mudaliyar " not only the prime minister but most of the cabinet members use this model."

Then looking at both of them " but this car has only one other sibling and also price wise and specification wise is a little more advanced than what the prime minister and the cabinet minister uses."

Both men waited for Rudran to answer and with no answer forthcoming " simple answer.mukesh ambani. The BMW purchased by the business giant is no ordinary beemer. It's called the BMW 760Li High Security and is an armoured version of the range-topping 760Li saloon. The regular version of this car costs appx. INR 2 crore in India, which is quite expensive even for the well-heeled. However, given the fact that it's Mukesh Ambani we are talking about, 2 crore rupees is mostly pocket change. So he went all out on his new acquisition and splurged an eye-watering INR 8.5 crore (appx.) on his BMW 760Li High Security. This is mostly thanks to the 300% import duty that's levied on all armoured cars that enter our shores. Having paid all that, the business tycoon had to shell out an extra 1.6 crore rupees on vehicle registration. This is the highest registration fee anyone has paid in the history of Mumbai's RTO for a car.

The High Protection version of the 760Li is heavy. Really heavy. With all that ballistic-grade steel, underbody blast deflection kit, heavy steel wheels, on-board fire extinguishers etc. this BMW 7-Series weighs well north of 2.5 tonnes! As the moniker suggests, this 7-Series comes equipped with a twin-turbo, 6.0-litre V12 that makes at least 532bhp and 750 Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The acceleration time from 0-100 km/h takes just over 6 seconds and the top speed is 210 km/h. These performance figures are impressive for a car that at best, can be described as a luxurious limo and security bunker.

According to the Germans, their 760Li High Protection complies with VR7 ballistic protection standard (tested as per BRV 2009 guidelines). BMW also states that the non-transparent area and several other parts of the transparent area comply with the requirements for class VR9 ballistic protection. That's not it, this car also comes with runflat tyres, which doesn't seem like a big deal. Unlike in other BMWs, the 760Li High Protection has steel wheels for added strength and protection. This means even if all the tyres are blown to smithereens, this car can still be driven at 80 km/h for some distance.

Be it a fire in the engine compartment or under the vehicle, tear gas on the streets, or a jammed door; in the BMW 7 Series High Security you can be confident your vehicle can handle it. Safety features include an on-board fire-fighting system, an emergency exit and an emergency fresh-air system. We reckon this is one car in which Mukesh Ambani and his loved ones can be completely safe and secure and now it also thus for mr.kandaswamy mudaliyar and family."

Rudran looked at kandaswamy mudaliyar " i guess today is an exception and also a day for me to treat myself to a ride in one of the worlds best cars."

Looking at major sanjiv " i will need just two men with me and one of our best drivers for i don't want a single scratch on this beautiful baby."

A few minutes later, just before getting in,rudran shook hands with kandaswamy mudaliyar " thank you sir."

Placing his left arm on rudran's shoulder " please no formalities for one day all this will be yours anyway and nothing gives me greater joy than being able to help someone who has and still is giving so much to this country and others."

Seeing him pause and then changing his mind, rudran smiled " sir,i know what you are thinking but trust me for when the time comes,i will reveal everything and it will answer all your questions and put your doubts to rest.I promise."

It would take nearly an hour and more to reach the army base,so Rudran leaned back in the soft leather and closing his eyes reached back to the one he loved the most still even after all these years since he had lost him.

Deep inside his mind or was it his soul,Bhairav smiled his eternal five year old smile and whispered " Hi rudy."

Hidden inside, his brain and far beneath the layers and folds, both the twins spoke and bonded and life was good even though it was an illusion.

But what is reality and what is illusion for soon the time will come for life to end and for the dead to rise again and this time all that is good and all that is light will have strange souls fighting for their purpose and soon rudran's thirst and pursuit for his redemption will be fulfilled.

"There is no such thing as a "broken family." Family is family, and is not determined by marriage certificates, divorce papers, and adoption documents. Families are made in the heart. The only time family becomes null is when those ties in the heart are cut. If you cut those ties, those people are not your family. If you make those ties, those people are your family. And if you hate those ties, those people will still be your family because whatever you hate will always be with you. C. JoyBell C.

Once you were tiny and small
now you are strong and tall
then as now my hands remain open
to cuddle you,cajole you
to carry you and to lift you when you fall
i saw for you and walked for you
now you see me and how much i walked
and you walk the walk and talk the talk
once you were a child and i was your mother
but now who is the child but me
and who is the father, who is the mother
roles are reversed and yet the same
and so god plays the game
called life and family

poem by satish

Jeeva came out dressed in a simple white kurta and pyjama with a red dupatta thrown casually around her neck and shoulders and looked at all the curtains for they had been changed and fresh ones now hung, fluttering with the cold, rain soaked air flooding the windows.

Like her, manigandan too wore a simple white cotton shirt and a veshti and father and daughter looked at each other across the hall and exchanged in that brief look and conveyed what each felt in their souls.

Kamakshi came out all dressed in her orange silk saree and suja came out dressed in her red saree and stopped and looked at her mother and then looked at the other two " Jeeva, appa, who is the girl of the moment? Me or amma."

Hugging her tightly, she planted a kiss and let her lip stick stain her mothers cheeks and kamakshi not realising it,hugged suja " This is nothing for you should ask your dad how good looking i was when i was your age."

Manigandan cleared his throat and that too pretty loudly and all three women looked at him and he pretending not to have heard what kamakshi had just said " yes, yes.your mother looked very good. But sadly,i saw her late in the evening and with my poor eye sight could not judge anything and just nodded okay and we were married, pretty quickly i must say and i neither had a choice in the matter nor did i put up a fight."

Kamakshi made a sad face and both the daughters threw their hands around her " don't worry kamakshi,we will find someone better than this old man."

The door bell rang and suja ran to the door and both the parents stood up as their daughter entered the house with her boy friend Mohan, who shyly smiled and said " Hello."

Jeeva asked mohan to sit down and knew from her parents reactions that they had taken an instant liking to mohan.

Kamakshi looking at suja " baby, come and help me with the sweets and tea" and then hurriedly looking at mohan " what will you have.coffee, tea or can i make you some fresh juice."

Mohan " no ma'am,tea will do just fine.Thank you."

Inside the kitchen, kamakshi hugged her youngest daughter " very sweet boy and good looking too.I am happy for you suja."

Suja smiled shyly " thanks amma.truly,he is a real kind person and has a lot of great ambitions. After medicine,he wants to work with the poor and needy and also with a lot of NGO'S.His dad owns a furniture company and his mother is a doctor."

Kamakshi looked pointedly at suja who nodded " i met them just once and my heart tells me that they know we are seeing each other and i am sure they approve of it.Mohan is their only son and i don't think they will be any problems in us getting married."

kamakshi sighed deeply and sadly and suja lifting her mothers chin, gently stroked her cheek " why this long and sad sigh? What is it?"

Kamakshi turned away and began to make tea and whispered " All i want is both of you to be happy and have a wonderful life."

Suja leaned and looked at her " No chance for there is nobody like my dad and i doubt if there will be ever on in his mould."

Just as she said that, the doorbell rang again and jeeva held back and let her dad go to the door to see who it was and kamakshi not able to control her anxiety and fears, ran and joined her husband at the door for she wanted to see the man who jeeva was interested in.

Raman stood at the door, tall and casually dressed in a cream linen shirt with the sleeves slightly rolled up and kakhi colored dockers wrapped around his long legs and his feet in leather sandals.

He closed both his hands in a very traditional namaskaram and flashing a shy but loving smile " vanakkam."

Mani and kamakshi looked at each other in doubt and she asked him " yes sir."

The stranger at the door looked at both of them with immense respect and then jeeva stepped out and stood next to him " appa, amma, meet raman about who i was talking about."

Kamakshi's eyes filled with tears and so did mani's eyes and both looked at each other and thought and felt the same emotion " jeeva voda vanavasam is over.sita has found her raman in the end."

Raman looked at jeeva and she looked at him and fell in love all over again and all she could she think of was how to pull his head down and kiss his lips.

You are the candle, love's the flame
A fire that burns through wind and rain
Shine your light on this heart of mine
Till the end of time
You came to me like the dawn through the night
Just shinin' like the sun
Out of my dreams and into my life
You are the one, you are the one

Said I loved you but I lied
'Cause this is more than love I feel inside
Said I loved you but I was wrong
'Cause love could never ever feel so strong
Said I loved you but I lied

Said I Loved You... But I Lied-Michael Bolton

JANNAL ORAM-40

Jeeva watched her parents go in before them and with a naughty look on her face, gently pinched raman's bum and
" how come i have never seen you dressed so well before?" and taking a good look at him from head to toe " you look great, really handsome."

Raman folded his hands across his chest and waited as jeeva looked ath him while her lips and eyes tried, thought and succeeded " raman, thank you so much for coming home."

Still, with a smile playing on his eyes,he waited and jeeva looked at him with aching eyes " this is suja's day,her evening.okay."

Raman nodded " okay ma'am.understood.loud and clear. Now can we go in for it will look rude if we stay here any longer."

Together but inches apart,to maintain protocol and a pretence of respect, they entered the house and became one family under one roof.

Jeeva noticed that her mother was like a time bomb with its fuse lit for she was not able to contain her happiness and relief on meeting raman and also mohan, the same time and which meant a great future for both her daughters and with a very subtle glance, she looked at her dad and expressed her feelings and he nodded and gently clasped his wife's shoulder and kamakshi looked at him and then looked in the direction of his eyes and finding jeeva's eyes understood immediately what was needed of her.

Manigandan looked at raman " sir, please sit down and make yourself comfortable."

Raman looked at manigandan " please call me raman or ramu but no sir for you are older than me and more or less like my father to me."

Mohan changed seats and sat closer to raman and looking at him " raman sir, thank you so much for coming to our rescue and saving us from those idiots.I was at my wit's end trying to explain that we only did our duty even though the accident was not caused by us but by that drunk cyclist."

" Mohan,i just did my duty and i bet you would have handled it yourself if i had not been there to help out."

Mohan " i guess so for i was just about to call my dean who is a great man and always ready to help the students and i know for a fact that he has helped a lot of other students who have been in worse situations."

Raman leaned forward and took a bowl which was full of murukku and taking a bite, closed his eyes in ecstasy and looked at the bowl " nei murukku and this tastes so familiar and i am sure it must be from Agarwal bhavan, near broadway."

Looking at jeeva " am i right?"

Suja not able to keep quiet of her naughty spirit " advocate sir.do you spend time in the court or rather in all the sweet shops tasting their murukkus and sweets."

Raman burst out laughing and nearly dropped the bowl he was holding and still laughing " perfect cross examination. But to answer your accusation, there is this boy who works in our chambers and it is he who brings us our food from breakfast to lunch and sometimes dinner too.Sometimes he brings this fresh made nei murukku with lunch and that luxury is very limited and to only a privileged few."

Looking at suja " is the answer satisfactory your honor."

Kamakshi whose eyes had popped out in shock hearing suja tease raman, calmed down and stared daggers at her youngest daughter who in reply stuck her tongue out.Jeeva who was standing next to suja held her gently by her shoulders and then looked at mohan " Why didn't you call your dad for help mohan?"

Mohan looked at all of them " i wanted to but my dad has a heart problem and he is scheduled for a bypass next month.I simply didn't want to upset him and thereby place stress on him and his already weakened heart. My mother is even worse, although being a doctor she should be stronger but is not when it comes to me.I was born after many years after their marriage and both of them were in their late thirties and so they consider me a blessing and treat me as such. They tend to worry about even the smallest problem i encounter and although this is sometimes very frustrating and also irritatting,i understand where they are coming from and so go along with their rather over protective nature."

Raman looked at mohan " i think your parents are very lucky to have you as their son and i am really glad that i was able to help you out.In future,if you do need my help, please don't hesitate to call me,regardless of the time."

Manigandan leaned back and closing his eyes, whispered a prayer to his god and thanked him for bringing such good men into their family and feeling the gentle touch of jeeva, smiled as she touched the top of his head and placed a soft kiss on it.

Raman took in the gentle and lovely bond between the daughters and their parents and catching jeeva's eyes whispered with his eyes " i love you my sweet woman."

Baby,i could sit,stare and think
of so much and so many ways to
sing about you, your body and your beauty
and how beautiful i am and it's all for you
and only because of you

I stood,stared at the mirror
I saw myself daily,same face,same smile
but now i see you,i see me and a different face
i am different from your love
i am changed because of your kiss

waiting,i was waiting not knowing what i was waiting for
and all i felt was empty spaces all over and inside me
i saw,i sought in others answers and they all smiled
and showed me their emptiness and asked me to fill them
sadly i said no for i can only fill yours with my emptiness

but now you are here, now you fill my space and my soul
there are no stone anchors weighing me down
my wings are not glued shut and the light
that were embers in me are now blazing bright

i am flying now,i am running now,for i am in love
so much and so deeply in love with you

You might think why satish is taking time,so much time with the story of jannal oram and you are right.

There is simply so much in every moment of our brief lives that i simply want to stretch it,maximize it,extend it to the possible limit of exhaustion.

with so much love in the story of jannal oram, there is so much to feel and talk about for sadly like life it will not always be a bed of roses and people tend to change, morph with time and life.

But all that pain and tears for a little bit later in the story and for now let us fall in love with the way raman and jeeva are falling, deeper and deeper into the intoxication ambrosia called love.

Righteous Brothers - UNCHAINED MELODY - GHOST

Oh, my love
My darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time

And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Yes, lonely rivers sigh, "Wait for me, wait for me
I'll be coming home, wait for me"

It was nearly 8.00 pm and raman looked at everybody " I am really sorry but i have an important hearing tomorrow and so i need to be going."

Looking at Mohan and suja " nice meeting you both again and i wish you the very best."

As he walked towards the door,he looked at jeeva and winked although his lips very respectfully said " Bye jeeva.good night."

Seeing both her parents tagging along, jeeva understandingly stayed seated with mohan and suja and let them see raman off.Raman came outside and slipped into his sandals and looked at both mani and kamakshi " Thank you very much for having me here today and it was totally my pleasure. You make a wonderful family."

Sensing that kamakshi wanted to say something,Raman smiled and looked at her " I know and understand very well.I promise i will look after her, love her until my last breath and will never, ever hurt her."

Kamaskhi gently hugged him and raman held her gently and then looking at manigandan " bye sir,for now."

Mani not one for many words, looked at raman with gratitude " thank you and please drop in when ever you have the time. This is your house and you are part of this family."

Coming back in,Mohan looked at all of them " mr.raman is a real gentleman and a very cool person."

Mohan hesitated for he was not very sure about the nature of the relationship between jeeva and raman, but looked at jeeva " he will make a wonderful husband " and let it go at that and jeeva sensing his thoughts smiled " but i am sure, pretty sure that you are going to be a wonderful husband to my little one " and hugged suja tightly.

Mohan stood up " i have to be going now " and looking at suja's parents " my parents already know about me and your daughter and are just waiting for me to sit and talk with them.I am going to do that the moment i reach home and hopefully all of you can sit and work things out concerning our wedding."

Suddenly,he looked down as if he was trying to compose his thoughts and then looked up at mani and kamakshi " my parents think the world of me and are very attached to me.I hope you won't mind suja living with me and my parents after our wedding."

Jeeva looked at mohan " we will not mind and why should we?"

Mohan looked at suja " no,the trend nowadays is for newly married people to live separately away from their parents.I too thought about it at first but then i worry about my parents who are in their early sixties and now that i look at your beautiful family,i am more sure that i don't want to live separately after my marriage."

Suja looked at mohan " bro,no worries for we all are on the same page here.If you had not wanted to live with your parents, then i would have dragged you here to my house and made you live among us."

Seeing mohan's eyes scanning the house " don't worry about the space for we can construct two more floors on top of this roof, one for you and me and one for raman and jeeva."

Jeeva pinching suja's cheeks " excuse me ma'am,but we are just good friends as of now and thoughts of wedding and stuff like that is very far away."

Mohan stood up and suja looked at her parents " i will just see him off to the gate " and left with him.

Kamakshi looked like she was about just ready to burst into tears " jeeva,is it true? you and raman are just friends?"

Mani using his knuckles, gently knocked kamakshi's head " naive numbskull. You see so many serials everyday and still you ask all these silly questions."

jeeva pulling her mum on to her lap " My chellam mother,i said that just so that we can get suja's wedding done as soon as they are ready and only after that, will there be any talks about about my future with raman."

Kamakshi looked at jeeva and mani desperately and reading her thoughts, mani " jeeva, what is tormenting your mother is the possibility that raman might be snatched by somebody else and then it will be too late and back to square one."

Kamakshi jumped right in " no,no.yes, yes maybe.so why not have both your weddings on the same day at the same time at the same venue."

Jeeva hugging her mother tightly " Mani never abandoned you and so why do you think raman will?"

Her father very quickly " honestly,i tried running away but my legs were not strong enough and also your mother was a tough cookie and she was acting like that neelambri character in Padaiyappa movie. So,i thought that rather than die trying to escape,i would marry her and die a little everyday."

Father and daughter started laughing at kamakshi who mockingly looked at her husband " You brutus, how many times you confessed that my coffee and potato fry were one of the reasons that you married me and here you are lying through your teeth. No more potato fry with your sambar rice or curd rice from this day on."

Suja came in " what curd rice and potato fry? amma i am ready to eat for i am starving."

Kamakshi looked at all of them " wait, wait for before that we need to finish this special parcel" and opened it to reveal a large clay bowl filled with rasamalai and all of them yelled like children in joy and dived right into the bowl.

Raman was walking back slowly to his house which was just a few streets away and hearing the bells clanging in the shiva temple, hurried for he knew that they would be closing the temple for the night.

Leaving his sandals,he stood barefoot, eyes closed and with palms folded in prayer " father, bless and protect jeeva and her family. Please give me the strength to look after her well and love her until the last moment like i do at this moment."

Love is not just for stories but they are the substance and sustenance of life.It might not be the answer for all problems but sure is what makes lot of problems vanish and that which makes life worth living and fighting for everyday.

JANNAL ORAM-42

It was 9.00 pm and as was the case, then in Times now and now in Republic tv,dad, mum and suja sat glued to see Arnab goswami scream his throat hoarse " I demand an answer,I want to know, the nation wants to know" and they switched between that and ayutha ezhuthu programme on Thanthi tv anchored by their favourite Ashokha varshini.

Jeeva hated what was on tv and specially the news that each and every channel proclaimed "breaking news, first to report" which was so funny and yet so corrupt like the very news that they were reporting about politicians and terrorists.

Closing the bedroom door, with a plate full of curd rice, potato fry and some of the nei murukku to go with that, she looked longingly at her mobile and then just called raman.

Raman answered and jeeva knew she was on speaker phone " what are you doing?"

" just looking for any loopholes that i might have left open for the other to enter and break the case.Although my civil case are mostly restricted to economic offences and most of my opposite counsels are from the government."

Hearing her chew, munch, swallow " dinner.good for you for it will be another hour before i get up from here and go have my dinner."

from the karakku murruku noises " madam is hogging on the nei murukku, right."

Mouthful of food, jeeva chewed, swallowed " sorry, the plate is wiped clean and now i am all ears.By the way,you looked really handsome today evening.I had never seen you in casual clothes before today and since you are always covered in that formal advocate clothes,i didn't know how fit and lean you were."

Raman dropped the pen he had been using to make some small notifications and underlining a few sentences for further evaluation " ma'am,please stop flirting for i am just a paavam, lonely male who in frustration will have to climb walls and hang from the ceiling to get rid of all the horny thoughts you are arousing in him now."

jeeva in a gentle whisper " text me your address,so that i can sneak in to your house after everyone has gone to sleep."

Raman groaned " How am i supposed to work, eat and sleep peacefully and more importantly how am i going to stand before the magistrate in egmore high court and conduct my cross examination."

" Well lawyer sir,you can cross examine me anytime you want."

Flirting, making love with words as only lovers can, they carried on and then raman " Jeeva, you have such a wonderful family and i am so happy for you. This is such a rare thing and something to be treasured and cherished forever.Your parents are so cool and so lovable."

" raman, what about your parents? they must be great too for you reflect them with your character and dignity and by the way my whole family has fallen in love with you and are under your spell."

" Thank you.really,it was such a privilege to meet all of them and also mohan.I think he is going to make a great husband,son-in-law and also a fantastic brother-in-law."

Remembering her question " i am sorry you asked me about my parents.they are absolutely great and kind people yet nothing like your parents for they are special. My dad is very supportive, kind and loving but he is not much for conversations either with me or with my mother. In all my years,i have never, ever heard him raise his voice or complain about anything.Honestly, sometimes i worry that i will be like him for the signs are there."

" raman, those qualities that you mentioned about your dad is just what a woman looks for in a marriage,a relationship. What you think is quiet and boring is actually your dad allowing your mother to breathe and live in her space."

" You know raman, most people think that marriage is some kind of ritual,a tradition and so on and so forth. But it can also be the greatest friendship and the greatest love that we only dream of."

" Jeeva, i swear to you at this moment that i will be that person you dream of.now and forever."

" You already are raman for otherwise my soul wouldn't have sought you out from the daily crowds and my eyes wouldn't have searched for you, like they did, everyday for nearly three years.I used to climb the bus, hoping and praying that i could catch a glimpse of you, just a brief glimpse of you for that would somehow strangely make my day better and give me more strength to go on."

A few hours later, both mani and kamakshi were staring at the ceiling fan as it swung like a ballet dancer with her arms stretched out.

Kamakshi snuggled closer to her husband and he gently pulled her and laid her head on his chest and she looked into his eyes " I am so happy,so happy that i feel like running around the street screaming my joy at the top of my voice."

Mani looked at her for a second and then looked away and tried to seriously visualize the scene of his wife running around and grimaced and kamakshi " poda mani, you are always making fun of me."

Kissing her forehead softly " i love you dee, from the moment our eyes met,i knew i wanted to spend my time loving you and looking after you.I hope i have done okay."

Kamakshi gently stroked his lips with her fingers " You are the bravest man,the kindest man that i have known and you have done more than okay.Double okay."

She lay in his arms and mani gently stroking her head " I am glad that jeeva has met a person who is as good as her."

Hearing his voice tremble, kamakshi looked up to see tears in her husband's eyes and using the edge of the bedsheet gently wiped them away " Enna mani, crying like a baby.If you yourself cry then what am i supposed to do,save my tears for a rainy day."

Mani smiled " yes my sweet woman, for in the rain, nobody can see a person cry for it is all water and only that person knows the taste of their tears."

Looking at his wife tenderly " I am crying not out of sadness but in gratitude to god and to jeeva."

Kamakshi looked at him and mani continued " it is the duty of the parents to look after, care and safeguard their childrens lives and futures. But nowhere is it written that children themselves have to pay back all that love and kindness for they didn't ask to be born to us and it is all laid down by the parents and society."

The tears came pouring down now and rather than wiping them, she let him pour his sorrow out for it is better to cry our sorrow out rather than let it fester and turn toxic and septic.

" I cry because my daughter was willing to sacrifice her life for her parents and her sister.I am crying because all those years,i sat and watched as she left to work, her youth wasting away while the arthritis was wasting away my joints and i sat crippled and helpless."

Kamakshi taking his palms, looked at them and gently kissing them " what about all those days when you could hardly walk and yet you were the first one to get up and get ready to go to work? What about all those times when you brought clothes for your daughters and shrugged away your faded clothes saying that they were young and they were the ones who deserved better and fashionable clothes? what about all those times when you could have brought a scooter for yourself but instead invested that money in mutual funds and life insurance policies."

" But more importantly, remember one thing and that is your daughters are made from your blood and so will do better and more than you did. They are just your reflection of love and discipline."

Hearing a knock, both hurriedly wiped their eyes and waited and were surprised to see both their daughters enter their room.

Suja ran and jumping into the cot snuggled up to her dad who threw his right arm and held her too and held his wife in his left arm and remarked " three of the most beautiful examples of women and i am breathing the same air that they breathe."

jeeva sat near his feet and slowly massaged his calves " well dear mani,it is your breath and your spirit inside both of us and so we are one, giving, taking and giving back."

This is love,an unbroken circle of life containing precious relationships and thoughts and existing in a world of their own.

Out of the womb and out of darkness comes a baby
bearing and beating the notes of life
a link in a chain that stretches back to the first melody
god, creator call that force whatever and yet that is it
we start out as an invalid,an infant and die more or less the same way
what did we come for?
what did we embark on this journey for?
loving,living,giving and caring
fighting,breathing not for ourselves
but for other souls
for only then you can expand your chest and take in more air
for they need your lungs, your legs, your spirit
they that love you and whom you love

poem by satish

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"

"Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

"You will simply call her, 'Mom or dad'"
