Hello Friends

It is Sunday, yet a special day! It is February the 14th, and it sure will be a loved filled Sunday! After all, today is Valentines Day!

Valentine's Day is a festival that cherishes love and romance. The festival falls on February 14 every year and is celebrated in several countries across the world including US, UK, Canada, Japan, France, China and India. Though the festival commemorates the martyrdom of a Christian saint called St Valentine, the festival as it is celebrated today has little religious significance. In present times, Valentine's Day has assumed a secular and global flavor and is celebrated by people of all ages and races.

Valentine's Day Celebrations Beyond Lovers

Valentine's Day Festival has been associated with lovers since long but in present times the scope of the festival has grown beyond lovers to encompass just anyone and everyone we love. These days, people buy cards, flowers and gifts for their friends, spouse, parents, children, teachers or anyone they find dear and express their love and affection for them.

Those who can only link Valentine's Day with romantic couples will be surprised to know that children under the age of 11 are the biggest consumer of Valentine's Day greeting cards. Survey also reveal that maximum number of Valentine's Day cards sold are given to teachers followed by children, mothers, wives and last of all sweethearts.

In some countries including Canada and US several schools organize classroom get together on Valentine's Day where children gift cards to their friends. Skits and concerts are also organized by children to mark the day. Senior children usually organize Valentine's Day dance parties where they freak out with their friends.

In some families children are encouraged to show love and affection to siblings and other family members on Valentine's Day. People say 'I love you' to family members with flowers and other gifts. Such rituals help to generate positive feelings for each other and create happiness in family.

Singles who feel depressed on Valentine's Day for not having a partner to celebrate the romantic festival in much popularized manner must strive to make the most of the occasion by celebrating the day with friends or family members. They can express gratitude and affection to friends, colleagues and dear ones for their wonderful presence and support. Organizing single's party and inviting other friends who are single can be another great way of celebrating Valentine's Day beyond lovers.

Some people also like to celebrate Valentine's Day in a constructive manner by performing acts of charity. One can visit orphanage, old age home and hospitals and spend time with those who crave for attention and affection.

opinion on Valentine's day ?? ermm 😆 😆 i think its a special day for lovers 😳 On this day they show their partners how much they love n care for him/her. They buy flowers, choclates, cards go to candle light dinner n blah blah.. n make them feeel their partner is realli realli special for them 😳..

Some boys proposes to girls on this day.. i find that quite cuteee 😆 😆 u know like presenting a bouquet of red roses n proposing to the girls in front of every1 n the girl accepting it.. awwwwww frm that day their new relations ship starts.. Thats wat i like moreee 😆 😆 its kinda fun to watch them lol 😆 😆

Valentines day traditionally is a day where love birds express their love for each other.. however these days we see everyone enjoying this day with those they love the most!

Well to me Valentines day is a day for sharing and appreciating the love we have for our beloved ones. I believe this love is not confined to couples alone. It is to appreciate our loved ones and show them how much we care for them.... .
English le there is only one word 'Love' and we use the same term for different relations, but in Tamil we refer to Love as Kaadhal .. According to me Love is the foundation in many relationships on earth, and not just between couples. Hence I go for the yaavarukkum category

love is a thing that nobody in the world can understand even the doer itself....doesn't know when he fell in love with some one...i meant the particular time....so accordin to me love is a mystery

Hey guys

This is a intresting debate about v-day.

everyone has mixed opinions about the day

some will say it a normal day while others will say its a good day for the flower shops and card stores,teddy bear stores, cholactoate stores , etc since they will all have great business especially on this day. some people would feel as if everyday should be v-day while others would disagree.

well i think even if you are single you can always call your single galfriends and go out and celebrate the day. having dinner watching a movie wont hurt.

plus v-day is not for adults since living abord even kids in school make a big deal about it. since they want to give cards to thier classmates and give gifts to thier teachers.i guess in this day and age people want to celebrate just about any day.

My belated wishes to everyone😛

Hmm…personally I am not so much into this Valentines day. I am many times wondered what's so special about V-day. People take time out of their busy lives to show they care by buying gifts, cards, goes out on dinner and movies cause they think they are obligated to do that on V-day😕. I really don't think one day is enough to tell your beloved ones you loves them…when the entire life is about showing your love to them😛. We can always buy gifts, go out for dinner, movie on other days too. 😆

Like Anjali wrote above, love has a lot of definitions in English but in Tamil, it only means kadhal. But hey kadhal is not just something between two people in love but also between relations we have…mother, father, siblings, friends etc.

If you ask me, I will say on you celebrate your valentines day with your friends and family as it's just as important for families to show their love for each other like lovers do. I don't think it's a special day that can only be celebrated by people in romantic relationships cause the day is about showing your love and care for those people who means the most for you in your life. Families can show how much they love and appreciate each other cause on our busy life, we hardly get time to spend time with each other or tell them how much they means for us. So take a day off to do something with your family and spend the time means a lot and they will feel very special too. 😳

I just want to share a small incident for my life, this V day happened to fall on the same day as mothers day. So me and my sis wanted to surprise our mother and kind of wanted to beat our dad too. We bought a lot of gifts, cleaned the house and made breakfast etc, but dad didn't show us his gift as he said it was a suspense😕. We went out for dinner and had great time and to last went for a movie. At the end, we couldn't wait for the suspense and asked him what his gift for mum, to our surprise he had tricked us😆. He gift was basically spending time with the family and do together stuff as a family as we hardly get time to do something like that cause of studies and work. so us kids won only to lose, while dad lost but won😆

So by this..i want to say, do make sure to spend time and show your beloved ones how much they means for you on v day or any other day...the point is not on which day but the fact that you actually do that😛
