Hmmm, looks like Caryn does not want to try my recipes! Actually, I have no cause to complain, it is not as if I post a whole lot of recipes, anyway. All the same, I thought I would put in my two cents' worth.

LJ!!! 😔 How can you say that? No maa.......... I said I will try rest of them later when I get the time. I tried Kavi's and Supree's when it was TNY and Deepavali - so there was 6 months gap when I went to the kitchen. Then Jaz was when I was veg for a week and I have run out of ideas what to take to office. (and I think I have forgot to thank her 😳 thanks jazzie ).
Your two cents is worth a lot, believe me! 😃 It is getting more expensive to buy sweets. So now have to learn at home. 😆

6 months' gap in going to the kitchen? I want to trade places with you. I did get a mini - break after my surgery, but I am back to my usual routine now, and so, here I am, envying you when you say that you went into the kitchen after 6 months! Some girls have all the luck!

I am going to have to look through the archives to dig up some new recipes for Thanksgiving, which we are going to celebrate later this month. Since ours is a veggie Thanksgiving, I have to look for recipes that are unusual. Maybe a pumpkin soup, if there is one in the archives. If not, I will find one, make it, and then post it.

eljay this is for you. pumpkin soup tastes wonderful and is a staple diet in any south african home. here is how i was taught to make it...tastes yum...

ingredients
1 pumpkin
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp paprika

1 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup of butter
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup fresh cream
4 cups of reserved liquid
4 or 5 veggie bouillon cubes, according to taste
salt and pepper to taste
method

1. Chop the pumpkin into cubes, place in a soup kettle, add enough salted water to just cover. Boil until tender. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cubes and place in a mixing bowl for now. Carefully measure out 4 cups of the liquid and set aside.

2. Melt the butter in the soup kettle, then saute the chopped onion and garlic until tender, about five minutes.

3. Add the reserved liquid, cooked pumpkin, paprika, bouillon cubes, and rosemary to the kettle and bring to a boil, stirring continually. Once the soup begins to boil, turn down the heat to low and cook for another 15 minutes.

4. Remove the soup from the heat, and bring to room temperature. Once it has cooled sufficiently, puree using a standard household blender, an electric hand mixer or potato masher

5. Return the cooled puree to the kettle, stirring in one cup of cream. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place in refrigerator until thoroughly chilled.

alternatives

This soup can also be served hot by returning it to the kettle and reheating. Care should be taken to stir constantly and avoid bringing it to a boil.

Thanks Jas, for the grams to cups conversion. I have been looking for something like this for a long time, since my Samaithu par books are 30 years old, and some of the recipes have palams and viss in them(!!), and I have had to write a second book in the first book, with my own approximations in cups and tbsps.

Your pumpkin soup will be tested soon, maybe this weekend itself. i will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks Jezzy...this is indeed very helpful esp using cup in place of gram measurements. Don't have go thru the hassle of using the weighing scale..!!👏 You are exceptionally great....my son says so..!!😃
