Suppppppppppppppppppppppppprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ---------
So glad to see you here.. You can't imagine how glad I am...
I was just browsing the archives for a nice dinner recipe and will probably be making one of the mixed rice choices that you / Kavitha had posted earlier, with such inviting pics. Really... lovely food pics you guys used to post!!
I went missing for a while too and you could probably guess why, but just when I thought things had stabilized, there's just another round of lay off at the same place. Was a survivor this time and hope to always be! Lots of wishful thinking these days.. 😃
If your deployment is for user testing/QA, then you have another round of bug fixes. So don't already heave that sigh of relief 😆
Yeah I know..about the medhu vadais. I saw those pics my husband had taken.. snails, pigs, ducks, turkeys, bears and what not! It was like looking at a bunch of animal crackers. So embarrassing.. but there's always another time to make those perfect round vadais with the 'O'ttai.. haa ha..
You had made all those Kaaram and sweet stuff.. wow.. that's a lot Sup. I just made vadai and Badhusha for Deepavali. Adhukke moochu mutti pochu. I wanted to make something for Halloween, like cupcakes with spider shaped icing, but got too busy with work. Did you make something?
Thanks for explaining the phyllo stuff Sup and Eljay!
After posting those questions about the phyllo/fillo sheets from work, I stopped at the grocers on the way home and actually found the Athens brand phyllo. Just looking at the count (40 sheets) printed on the box, I realized that it couldn't be the same as puff pastry sheets and the sheets on the picture looked wafer thin. Just don't have enough walnuts at home.. so waiting..
Sup thanks for the tips on thawing as well..
Eljay.. I just bought a 1 lb box which is supposed to have 40 sheets. So, do I start with 10 on the bottom layer and go with 5 sheets for each layer? Will that be good?
I know the square ones are easy, but how does one make diamond like cuts? I guess I have to start making horizontal cuts lengthwise first, as in a row (mine is a rectangular baking pan), but how do I proceed after that? Please enlighten.. Can't think too much, rather ask questions 😳
And Sup.. your post is never too long, it's always fun to read!

Jenim, you can start with 10 on the bottom and use 5 sheets each time. There is no hard and fast rule here.

Making diamond cuts, hmmm.... Let's see, start at one corner of the long side and draw an imaginary diagonal of an imaginary square. Then draw parallel lines to the first. Then move to the next corner of the long side and again draw an imaginary diagonal to an imaginary square, and you should see diamonds taking shape. I don't know how good my explanations are, and I wish I could make a batch now and take pics, but.... I am recovering from surgery hence no driving, which will be essential here since I do not have fillo dough sheets. Maybe next week. In the meantime, good luck with your attempt. Keep me posted.

Eljay -
That was a good/ lucid explanation for cutting diamonds!
I just drew 'em on plain paper following your instructions and saw the diamonds taking shape. That'll definitely work with baklava as well. Thank you!
Sorry to hear about ur surgery. I had no idea.. I feel terrible now having asked you to type these recipes out.
Hope you're recovering well and soon too!

Oh, Jenim, don't feel bad about asking me for recipes. 'I don't need my legs to type, and this makes me forget the pain. 'In fact, you can say that the "Other topics" forum has saved me during the last two weeks, esp reading about the Malaysian meet and the Deepavali celebrations of all our friends. 'I can walk without aid from room to room now, it is just that driving is still difficult, and going to the stores is out of the question, since I am not ready to sit in the handicapped chairs! 'It is just a question of pride or ego or whatever.

This was why I enjoyed your descriptions of the vadais, and the interactions here re. the paagu.

Thanks a lot eljay, Jenim, Kads & Vani for welcoming me back! 😊
eljay, happy to know that you are recovering well and this IF and the recipe conversation is really helping you to get through the post surgery stage. Take care of your health & wish you a speedy recovery!
Me too Jenim... so glad to be here again after the break! 😊
Thanks for all the nice compliments you gave for my old recipes, pictures (and even for my long post!) 😃
Wish I will be able to continue the picture with recipe pattern... with everything that's going on currently it's getting hard for me to remember to take pictures before we finish off the food! 😆 Like the Deepavali snack/sweet items I had made, I thought of taking pictures... (so I can share those recipes later with you all....) but couldn't do though. Now it's too late to do as we almost finished eating all! 😃
( I too miss those days where our Kavi would post something new each and everyday with a lovely picture. 😭)
And as per Halloween celebration, I too thought of baking some cup cakes and use some halloween color icing on top, but couldn't. It was too late when I came back home and there was just enough time left to get ready for the Trick or Treat! Will use this idea for next year........ 😉
Once again thank you so much Jenim for the grand welcome.... I too am very happy to get back and join you here. 😃
Kadhambari, Thanks for trying out Bhadam milk drink and giving the feedback.👏 As per the color, it's just the carrots that I got here which gave me that nice orange color that day!. Try to use always good fresh & nice colored carrots...
Ungkalukku oru tips-m sollattumaa?! Try soaking some kungkumappoo (Saffron) in little warm milk and add to this, this will give you nice orange color. Illannaa, irukkave irukku konjam kesari color pottu parungkaleen kads. 😉 Hope this helps. Please let me know how did it work...
Again thanks Kads for your sweet words about missing my recipes! you have made my day! 😃
Hi Vani, I am doing good. Thank you. 😊
just been busy with stuff lately... athan, konjam kaanaamappoyitten. Ippa vanthutten.
