In south india, ppl make a sweet called kozhakattai (Its damn yummmmmmyyyyyyyyy *slurp* 😛 ... made from rice) as offering to Ganesha. My mom makes kozhakattai and laddoo.

on the week b4 Ganesh Chaturthi, ppl get clay images of lord Ganesha and worship/decorate for the week. On Ganesh Chaturthi(or the day after... am not sure 😳 ) they take it to the sea/ocean.
