Major parts in India, people don't have smartphones to take selfies. They wouldn't even know what selfies are. The pics posted are all from the urban side. Having said that, as I said, the initiative is not a bad one, but doesn't serve any purpose but just a "cool" thing. And what use is posting pics with their daughters a day? Like...do you really feel the fathers, all fathers would have been completely thinking about the base reason for the initiative?
Yes, one has to be proud to have a daughter...Somewhere using selfies for that doesn't go along I feel.
There could be lakhs of girls abandoned by their parents listening to the radio program of PM...What use could be this initiative for them?
I think the vitriol directed against Shruti was for 2 diff reasons: 1. she actually had the audacity to go against the PM (who most people seem to love to the point of devotion) and 2. she's a woman with an opinion (aka sexism)
As for whoever did the trolling -- dude singling out fathers is totally biased. I bet my life that there were women and mothers who also trolled shruti. and I do agree with you in that the abusing Shruti was wrong -- I wasn't arguing that point at all. I may participate in using abusive language, but even I can see that it's wrong.
And actually, the selfie with daughter iniative was actually started in a village by a sarpanch. so it wasn't a completely urban thing. i think some people even got money for it (for having the best father-daughter pic?)? And the initiative served a purpose in temporarily linking daughters with coolness. and that's wherein my logic lies. like once the iniative came out, the main thought father's would've had would be like "of hey, I have a daughter, I can participate." It's just a small baseline to attempt to change some views on daughters.
as for the daughters abandoned for listening to radio program, honestly i don't really know where you're going with that point. wouldn't they be abandoned before hand? I don't know details of that kinda stuff unfortunately.
again to reiterate, we're on the same page in that the initiative isn't a bad one. But I'm also arguing that's it's not completely useless either. I think any small step is worthwhile.
