Seems like it...I can't believe he did that...Not that I think he is like his "Babuji" character in real life too...But that coming from someone like him is shocking.

It's not a bad initiative but doesn't serve any purpose. What about the girls in the rural areas where there is no phone at all? How does this initiative reach them? Awareness can be created...but as usual it would be forgotten after one day.

Though it's all gone in the wind...Swatch Bharat was a good initiative according to me as it brought people on the road and be part of the mission...But selfies won't help in any way.

I am not really for this campaign either...How can selfies help the girl child in the nation?

Okay, so I'm kinda mixed on this. On one hand, I think Shruti's critique of how practically ineffective this selfie initiative would be in creating actual change was spot-on. More reform needs to be done. I think it was Malika Sherawat who created this wonderful documentary about how girls babies are still killed at birth in large populations in India. So Shruti is right there.

On the other hand, I also kinda can *support* this initiative. Obviously change isn't going to come overnight and thoughts aren't going to change quickly either. The selfie with daughter was, to put it crudely, to make it cool for people to have daughters and show them off. It was more of a mental thing. Like men who had daughters could be proud that they took photos and that they were appreciated for the photos. And that appreciation could, theoretically be transferred over to the notion of having a daughter. Thereby, the idea of having a daughter wouldn't be as repulsive to rural Indians -- esp if Modi supports it. So like the initiative wasn't about bringing physical change per se, but attempting to change the way daughter's were thought of. Idk, that's my take on it and I do support it from that.

But again, Shruti's point is also important to take into consideration. Yes change won't happen overnight and nor will thoughts change quickly, but maybe actual reforms providing an incentive for people to have a daughter would definitely help with that. Again, a mixed feeling on this.

regarding AIB, yeah I haven't seen it either but I heard some stuff about it. To me, comedy is related to consent -- esp when that comedy comes at the expense of someone. I remember with the Arjun-Ranveer roast, they were made fun of and extremely derogatory language was used towards them. I didn't actually mind that because they were totally cool with it. BUT other people, liek Farida Jalal and Arpita Khan were also used as the butt of jokes, made fun of, and talked about in extremely obscene language WHEN they weren't even a part of the thing in the first place. they didn't consent to be a part of it, and that pissed me off because it was completely rude. So yeah, not really a fan of it.

In general, I feel like comedy can be so hit or miss. A lot of jokes seem to use rape or sexual identity as the punchline and it really pisses me off because, like the Kapil article writer said, it subconsciously promotes the acceptance of such issues/ regressive thinking.
