A clown act- covering his sadness and anguish behind a wide smile, Ramesh Gangwal is the Unsung Hero of the Gangwal Family. Introduced as a carefree and irresponsible son and father, riding his old scooter singing songs, ridiculed for his carelessness in his work in business by his brothers, taunted for making mistakes in his life by his father, nothing could take away the smile from his face. Slowly, the actual Ramesh Gangwal came out in the open, the one who considers himself a failure in life, unable to give any happiness to his wife and his children. A lot of pain is stashed within the man.

Ramesh is not perfect. He has made mistakes, faced failures in his life, which he hadn't been let to overcome. In spite of his family putting him down for years, he has been trying to get up strongly, is still trying to. A happy go person, calm under pressure, having a very less shelf life for anger, a friend for all the kids of the house, and someone who loves his family dearly and is emotionally dependent on them, Ramesh can do anything for his family; all the family wants is his silence.

Ramesh's self-control and silence have kept the family together all these years, which probably no one has realised. Financially poor compared to his brothers, his drinking habit, and giving freedom to his kids to lead their lives the way they want have always been the topic of taunting for the family. But for Ramesh, he has grown immune to them. All he is concerned about is his OWN family- his wife and his kids and what they think about him. He doesn't want to be seen down by them. Hence, he always breaks his silence when it comes to their lives. He cannot let the lives of his kids become one like his. His only aim in life is to give a happy life to his kids, the way they want it and keep the happiness and peace in the house intact.

Ramesh- The Husband

Ramesh - The Father (Ramesh-Nisha)

Ramesh, being an ideal father, always lets Nisha take her own decisions, whether right or wrong, he does believe in learning from mistakes. He always lets Nisha take the fall, but instead of catching her, he supports in her rising after the fall. He can never see his daughter, whom he refers to as his "Happy wala gaana", sad or teary eyed. His signature line to Nisha " Tujhe jo karna hai kar, par beta yeh baat yaad rakhna ki main teri aankhon mein aansoon nahin dekh sakta" melts everyone's heart and clearly shows the amount of unconditional trust and love he has on her. It is seen time and again, he never lets his children know about the problems he faces being a father who believes in a friendly parenting and the opposition he gets from his own father and elder brothers.

Ramesh, always was worried for Nisha's future mainly as he feared that Nisha, being his daughter would face many hardships in life especially in their own home. Even after being labelled "Rehne De Ramesh" by his father and even after carrying the tag of being irresponsible he never let his children face those, and the most important thing being him and Lakshmi always being open to Nisha, and also encouraging her to not let anything bottled up within herself.

Ramesh always considered himself to be a good dad, but he was broken after Nisha's past was revealed to him, but still he didnt break down on seeing her, rather composed himself and the most sweetest thing was that they didnt speak about that incident, rather it was only a silent conversation of emotions between them. Ramesh understands Nisha more than she does herself, and this is seen time and again.

He never lets Nisha fight alone, he is always seen in the background supporting her, Nisha being impulsive takes many rash decisions that inadvertently land Ramesh in trouble many times, near his father, but he happily accepts every taunt and every scolding he gets. All he cares for his daughter's happiness and peace of mind. He was ready to sever ties with his own father for the sake of Nisha' life, as she was sacrificing her life yet again, this time, but seeing her determined on moving on from previous heartbreak, he gave in.

Ramesh - The Brother

Ramesh and his brothers share a very deep rooted bond which is lost somewhere. There is lot of love among them, yet when a time of crisis arises for Ramesh, Viren and Mohan step back. Ramesh yearns for the three of them to be together and share a strong bond. He has never shied away from helping his brothers even if that means putting himself into problems. His brothers have trapped him into serious problems in business leading to punishments ranging from salary cuts every month to getting thrown out of the business by their father. Yet, Ramesh is quick to forgive his brothers' selfishness and steadies their relationship. According to him, as the youngest brother it is his duty to help his elder brothers, but he doesn't expect his brothers to reciprocate the same. Viren and Mohan have used Ramesh's silence and love for them to their advantage and never realised how their actions have ruined their Chote's life.

Ramesh - The Friend

One person to whom the cousins can go for help, any time for anything is Ramesh. He is their Favourite Chachu. Ramesh becomes one among the cousins, be it when having fun or when solving their problems. He understands and empathizes with them, the reason why cousins strongly connect to him, even more because their own parents don't understand them the way they want them to. Ramesh is a friend to them, whom they can depend on without any hesitation. It's just not the cousins, but even Saurav enjoys Ramesh's company. And the newest addition is Kabir, who has found a father figure in Ramesh, and probably sees himself in Ramesh.

Fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities to the best of his efforts, owning up to the mistakes he has done in his life, supporting each and every family member irrespective of whether his help is appreciated or not, having a huge family around him all the time, Ramesh is still a lonely man. There are a lot of emotions bottled up inside him which he cannot share with anyone. Nobody in the family realises or understands the inner turmoil of Ramesh. Guilt, sadness, frustration, pain, helplessness, sense of failure, anger- Ramesh is restricted from emoting all these feelings in the open and has to lock it with his silence, because when these emotions come out, the peace of the family is allegedly spoiled by him.

Ramesh's position in the family doesn't look like it is going to change any time soon. His decision to get back to music after all these years hasn't been welcomed by his family. He isn't going to try and prove himself to the family anymore. He is tired. He would gain respect in the family, only when Dadaji decides to give respect to him. He has gone beyond expecting it. He has resorted to stay happy with the happiness of his children.
