How we played the game
In town to garner votes for their comeback, both Narayani and Gaurav assert that their mission is beyond winning or losing

THEY were forced to make an exit from the reality dance show Nach Baliye 2 on Star One, and people were talking about how unfair the whole decision was. But the eliminated couple, who now have a chance of making a comeback, beg to differ. "We are glad that all this happened. In fact, after we were voted out, the huge support that we got from fans was overwhelming," says actor Narayani Shastri, while partner Gaurav Chopraa nods in agreement. They were in the city on Thursday to garner votes for their comeback through the 'wild card' entry. "Now it's not about winning or losing, but more about repaying the love that our fans have given us," says Gaurav.

The two are in fact, riding high on the emotions that their exit has evoked. Says an overwhelmed Shastri, "We have been getting mails, flowers and letters and people have even formed online forums to get us back on track. I could never imagine that audiences would support us so much. In a way, the exit has worked for us!" Reason enough for the twosome to put in as many as eight hours of practise everyday for the big day. And the comeback, they assert, is going to make jaws drop. "We will be making a statement with the show. Our passion for dance will definitely show through in the hi-energy performance," says Chopraa, who has recently shot for a Warner Brothers' film Blood Diamond, alongside actors like Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou. "It's a huge film and is due for release in early 2007," he informs. But the actor, who has also garnered rave reviews for the musical Bombay Crush staged in Durban, wants to remain faithful to the small screen, all the same. "If there is an interesting role, I would do any medium. That's the reason I am also doing a role in the television show Aisa Des Hain Mera," he justifies. Shastri, who has studied at the Symbiosis College of Arts in the city, says: "Taking a break from television has been a wise decision. I am only doing Nach Baliye 2,which I must confess, I accepted hesitatingly. And I am contemplating a few projects, but there's nothing concrete yet," she says. As for their performance on D-day, Pune's audience will be waiting and watching !
