The first morning dawned since the couple had reunited. Avni awakened with severe cramps. It had all been great earlier when she had been snuggling with Neil in bed.

She sighed thinking maybe it was just being sore from all the tortures she has been through the past several months.

She took a deep breath.

"No Avni nothing is wrong, you will be ok," she told herself.

Why couldn't she finally be free and happy? Why were her insides hurting so bad?

Avni showered and dressed the best she could. She prayed for a few minutes in the mandhir when she got downstairs. She leaned over to pick up the thali when the pain suddenly became more severe and then everything went black.

Bebe and Shweta heard the thali land on the ground and rushed into the area and gasped when they saw Avni unconscious on the floor. They put out the diya and checked on her.

"Avni beta kya hogaya tujhe?, Bebe yelled.

"Main abhi Neil aur Prakashji ko phone karti hoon, Shweta declared.

Avni remained unconscious as Neil picked her up in his arms and placed her in the stretcher.

He was numb and in shock. His insides spelled the fears he had when Avni was stuck in Rang Mahal or when he had dreamt that Vidyuth had stabbed Avni in their sleep.

He prayed that his wifey would be back by his side again.

The doctors emerged and asked a few questions.

"Due to her numerous injuries we suspect she has some internal bleeding. The blood has nowhere to go, there is a need for operation. Can we have a relative sign consent?, they asked.

Prakash put a hand on Neil's shoulder. He snapped out of it and took the clipboard and signed it.

Neela Ma had the same blood type as Avni and was able to donate.

Two days were difficult as Avni was in and out of consciousness.

Finally the morning of the third day, Avni awakened to see a dishelved Neil leaning against her pillow. She smiled slightly at him and winced at the pain at her abdomen.

"Neil!, she rasped.

His eyes snapped open wide. He caressed her faced and checked on her.

"Ab kaise lagra hai?, he asked with concern.

"Why am I hurting so much? Did they find anything?

"Why didn't you tell me you were in pain?, he admonished.

" Neil I didn't want to..

" Shh now rest. This time I am going to take care you this time, he pledged.

He stepped out for when the nurses came in to help her get cleaned up and do her dressing change. Neela Ma arrived and insisted he go home and freshen up.

He had slept every night in the hospital.

He reclutantly agreed.

"Pata hai ki ab Avni tumari zimedari hai, lekin main uski Maa hoon. Main bhi uska khayal rak sakti hoon, Neela assured him.

Neil nodded.

He was exhausted. He made a call to update DD and to get updates on any cases he needed assistance with.

"Ab Bhabhi kaisi hain?, DD asked.

"Hosh aagaya usse. Let's see what the doctors say later today, Neil said.

DD told him to keep him updated and he would come see her when she returned home.

The next day Avni was told she could return home but she would need to take it easy until the stitches dissolved in two weeks.

She couldn't wait to wash up and wear real clothes again.

Neela Ma was stuck in traffic. Neil was already there. She could let him help her. After all they had been through so much together by now.

"Neil I need help getting ready, she muttered.

"Should I get the nurse? I don't want to hurt you Avni, he whispered her name in her ear.

She felt butterflies as his warm breath met her exposed skin in the hospital gown.

She took the wash basin and washed what she could but had him help her with her back and legs.

Neil helped her dry off. He kissed her neck and cheeks. She swooned but he held her up and realized they could not take this too far now.

He steadied her and helped her into a loose fitting dress. He kept her body covered until it needed to be exposed. He gently ran a brush through her hair.

" You can shower at home. I will set it up so it is safer for you, he assured her.

He turned away to gather her things after he seated her on the bed. Neela arrived just then and sighed with relief.

"Sorry bache, I got late. Who helped you the nurse?

Seeing Neil look away, Neela was definitely teasing the couple.

Avni blushed.

"Neil did they tell you about the wound care and the bandages?, Neela asked in a more serious tone.

"Jee Ma, The stitches will dissolve on their own in a few weeks. Light food for a few days then she can go back to a normal, healthy diet, he emphasized the word healthy looking at his stubborn wife.

"See Avni ,Neil is on my side too. You need to take care of yourself beta, Neela urged.

Avni sighed.

"Theek hai, ab mujhe ghar jana hai, she insisted.

To her surprise Neil picked her up and placed her in a wheelchair. He pushed her along while Neela Ma followed them out to the nurses station and then out to the car.

The next few days were filled with everyone showering their love and assuring she ate a healthy diet.

Ali, DD, Prakash, Shweta, Bebe, Neela Ma and Neil would all take turns watching over her and taking her for walks.

DD and Ali tried to sneak her street food, but the others would always catch them and send it away.

Avni sighed the beginning of the second week. She was bored at home. She should be enjoying her time here now after so many months of being away, but her family was worried she would exert herself again.

She rolled up the shirt she had stolen from Neil's wardrobe. It smelled like him and she wanted to be comfortable. It wasn't like she was going anywhere soon anyway.

She examined her scars and sighed.

Would Neil still want her? Maybe he deserved someone that was less scarred physically and emotionally like she was now.

Suddenly he appeared behind her in the mirror.

"What are you worried about wifey?, he asked.

"These scars and maybe you deserve someone less...

His grip on her arms tightened and that's when she knew he was really there.

He turned her to face him.

"I love you just the way you are Avni. These scars make you more beautiful to me. It reminds me how much you have done for others and our family without a care for your own safety. Sometimes you frustrate me with your stubbornness, but I truly, deeply madly can never stop loving you Avni, Neil declared.

He bent down and kissed her stomach.

She sighed and tears of relief threatened to fall.

He pulled down the shirt to cover her stomach and wiped her tears.

He pulled her to himself.

When they pulled back he eyed her up and down.

" Neil tum mujhe tarde ho?

He smiled and said, Kyun kisse aur ko tardu?

She shook her head and nudged him.

" Vaise tum itni jaldi kasse aage aaj?

" Wifey I actually have a surprise for you!

She frowned .

"Please no more soups or boiled food, she whined.

He chuckled.

" No we are actually going out. But for that you need to change your clothes, he declared.

"Then you better tell me what to wear. I haven't been out in ages!, she exclaimed.

He handed her a package.

She smiled.

"Kholo, see if you like it, he urged.

She grinned seeing a sea green dress. She had been looking at it last year before things went so wrong for them.

"Neil tuhme yaad tha?

"Of course Avni. Tonight I want to take you around the city. You can have whatever you want to eat and I will take you to our spot, he declared.

" I love you Neil!, she exclaimed.

She hugged him with all her might.

They would start again from where their love story took off , when they had no idea they would someday be together like this.
