CHAPTER 14

AVNI POV

Past 8 in the morning.

Sitting on the ground with tears filled and hugging Ash, there I was seeking comfort for the cold marble of my mother's grave. It gave me peace and sanity to continue as always she did. My heart was aching as in what situation I was once again.

There was no escape here anymore in this city, I have to face these problems.

"Ma. Kya kar rahe ho aur aap roh Kyu rahe ho?" he asked catching a tear on his finger as one escaped my eyes.

"Ash do you know where we live is a home right just like that a person when goes to god has a place to live here. This where my ma lives after she went to god."

"So, why I are u crying? Its ur mum."

"I'm stupid but her grandson is so smart. Here let me introduce you."

"Ma, here it is with me your grandson Ashneel and Ashneel this the place of my mom and your Nano."

"Come on lets go Ash, we will visit soon." As this business settlement would be long and hectic and take time so we had time to visit soon.

Kneeling, I first made ash stand and straighten his clothes then standing my self I dusted off my jeans and shirt and wore my black blazer jacket ridding it of grass and dust. Turning toward the exit of the cemetery there he stood shocked and wide eyes and just the minute the shock wore off he ran.

Ran towards me and hugged me so tight it was difficult to breathe "DI. AAP YAHA!!! AAP MUJE KAHAN CHOODH KAR CHALE GAYE THE??"

"Amol, AMAN can't breathe." I said almost choked and tears streaming.

Cupping my face in his hands losing his arms around me,

"Me ban gaya Aman apka, apko pata he kitna miss kiya apko, kitni padhai ki aap ke liye and came in top 5 sirf aap ke liye aur muje maloom tha ki aap aaoge."

"Aman I'm proud of you aur mene bhi tujhe bahut miss kiya." I smiled with tears flowing.

"Hey. Hey, chhodo meri Mumma ko. Meri Mumma he woh chhodo unhe."

Pulling my jacket with all his might Ash, the true son of Neil possessive said.

Aman's face turned to me then for minutes Ash observing him and then to me again with his mouth open. And uttered a single word "JIJU."

"ASHNEEL this is your Mamu, Aman he is my son." I explained awkwardly, biting my lip.

Aman who was a bit startled still kneeled in front of Ash putting hands on his shoulders.

"HI. You don't know me but my name is Aman and I'm your mum's brother. So in relation you are my nephew. Hence I am your handsome, cool one and only Mamu."

"So my Mamu I am Ashneel Khanna your cool and awesome nephew." Picking up the lines of Aman.

As much I wanted to spend the day with Aman and Ash but meeting was on 11 and we got to be moving on.

"Aman your college-" cutting me off "is closed and on semester break." Completed Aman.

"Great, lets move this to car, I have a meeting." Trying to cut me off again. I got hold of Aman's hand in one and Ash's in one "I will explain it in car, its about to be 10. Hurry." Directing them towards our car.

Driver opened the car doors for Ash in front and us in back.

"Di?" "Shut up. I will tell." Giving my phone to Ash to distract him from our conversation.

After a couple of minutes with Ash playing on phone and chatting with driver. Meanwhile I made my face presentable applying some makeup for the meeting.

I started "Now, Questions I know you have a lot?"

"First where were u and Ash?"

"What were you doing all these years?"

"Meeting, what meeting?" fired questions after question Aman took a break to breathe and I spoke,

"I went to this hotel...then saw the news...went airport...New York... Met Shekhar... Pregnant ... Ashneel... his condition...Company...Problems in Mumbai ..."I told him everything I could tell about my life omitting some things.

"Di itna sab kuch ho gaya aur aap ek bar bhi yahaan nahi aye. Muje bhi contact nahi kiya aur Neil Jiju-" I cut him off "I don't want to listen a single thing about Neil. And you know our marriage was fake and I was burden to him, with Ashneel I couldn't add to that burden."

The car stop in front of the office building, "Aman, I have this important meeting regarding company but I will meet you soon." exiting the car.

But he stops me grasping my hand in his, with a new plan, "Di, aap toh meeting me busy raho Ge per Ash ka kya. I'm free and bored I can take him somewhere park, mall, and movies. Have boys outing. In addition, I will be good so will be Ash. Won't we?" asking Ash, then turning with that puppy dog eyes to me.

"Ya MA, Ash Ma's Good boy." Replied Ash planning, grinning with another day of fun.

"Fine. But any problem even a small one, call me instant. Ash you will be good and Aman don't feed him to much candies or sweets. And you will take the driver everywhere with you and will come back to hotel if I call out." "Di. Relax."

"Deal." Both said same time then fist bumped each other.

"Chalo jao tum log me bhi chal rahi."

"Bye Ash. Bye Aman." Kissing both of them on forehead. "Bye Ma. Bye Di"

On the dot 11, I entered the conference room after greeting Sri and some employees.

"Ma'am Good Morning." Greeted Aditya standing up.

"Good morning, I hope you have everything sorted out."

"Ji. Ma'am Yeh rahe sari records ki files jo Apne maagi the." Handing me files.

"Thank you. Let me study them till the police officials don't come. You can do some other work if you want."

"Sure Ma'am you will be undisturbed. I will be in my office and will come with officials when they arrive." Nodding at him I engaged myself in reports.

Hmm. Numbers are bad. Sales in the recent months have dropped gradually.

Our finances were cutting short and factory had same production but less profit.

I think it was half an hour later that the door opened but I was studying a graph but was distracted as my hairs made an annoying thing to come at my face.

So, I closed my file, flicked my hairs away from my face and shifted my gaze to the newcomer who was standing at the door and he gasped "Avni."

Neil. He looked same maybe more handsome and more sculpted as his shirt defined his body as if he spent his most time gym. Light beard and same tousled hairs in disarray. His face and eyes held shock, recognition, maybe hope and an emotion I couldn't place. That I didn't see in them before.

He was staring at me as if I was not real maybe a figment of his imagination .As if I would vanish, and his eyes were burning me with his gaze drinking me in.

Whole day was now like a grand reunion. But this one I didn't need I didn't wanted to see him and show myself weak because he made me that numb in his presence, his gaze cut me off to this world.

But this time I won't be numb, I won't cry or seethe but will face him as if he doesn't matter to me at all.

Of course in the whole city of Mumbai who got the charge of this ongoing case "Officer Neil Khanna" standing up I said in cold tone.

Just then Aditya entered the room, "Ma'am these are the officers in-charge IPS Neil Khanna and ACP Dakhal Dayal Singh."

"Nice to meet you. Long time no see." I sitted myself again, sitting dominant in the room showing no vulnerabilities.

"Av...AVNI mujhe tumse baat karni he." Finally coming to his sense Neil said.

"It's Ms. Avni for you officer and I don't wanna talk. I'm here on business of Sage's. So, if you are here to help then restrict yourself to it." I said firmly without any wavering but my heart was beating so fast.

"Bhabhi Aap yahaan Mumbai me...?" asked DD finally closing his mouth after shock of seeing me here.

"Hey DD. Kaise ho?" I smiled at him. He was always good to me. Seeing him here after so much time was good and well I was ignoring someone.

"AVNI I want to talk to you, DAMN IT. Talk to me."Thumping his fist on the table finally have it all, not getting my attention Neil now almost shouted.

But I can shout as well, "NAHI KARNI MUJHE BAAT NEIL TUMSE JAISE TUMHNE NAHI SOONI MERI." Then taking a very calm and cold tone "I'm the boss here. If you want I can show it by making security see you out." I said standing up.

Those eyes could bore into my soul if the could as we stare at each other. But his eyes flicked with pain, "Don't bother Avni." As if resigned he turned and left the room but seeing him so sad and resigned I wanted to go after him but no I won't.

'Be strong Avni.' I chanted in my mind.

Shocked from recent developments Aditya turned to me, "What was that about? Ma'am."

"Some old relations, disputes and regrets." Just as I said the last part DD flinched and said, "Bhabhi me aap ko kya bolao?"

"Avni, Ananya, Ms., Mrs., kuch bhi bolao DD I don't mind."

"Mera toh kabhi naamkaran sahi se hoya hi nahi." I said with a sad smile.

"Me Neil bhai ko dekhe ke aata ho." He said and turned, leaving the room.

I wanted to vent out on someone and seriously punch someone in the face.

"Aditya got to be kidding me. You found the one person I didn't want in whole police force for this." I screeched at him.

"HA. I don't even know him and I don't even know you were related to him."

Hell, what was I doing? I got to fix this I can't break here.

"Damn!! Sorry Aditya. He is my husband and we are not together. It's complicated. I want no word of it outside and no mention of Ashneel at all in front of anything. He doesn't know."

Clearing it out not wanting to drag Ash here in Chaos of my life.

"Sure Ma'am, life can be complicated." He said as if sympathizing with me handing me a water bottle.

My main priority here is Company and what I'm doing? Dragging personal life with business.

Bhagwan sakti du mujhe.

"Aditya go and see if they want to work with us or not? Clear it out and tell me." Taking a gulp of water.

"I want to be out of this hellhole." I murmured

NEIL POV

Somewhat past 10:30 in morning.

I was already late, behind the schedule waking up late. As I speeded across Mumbai roads avoiding traffic, taking shortcuts. Finally reached the building, outside the parking stood DD with files.

"Good morning sir ji. Aap late ho its 11:15." He said somewhat teasing.

"Morning DD, traffic." making a lame excuse. "Files??"

"15 minutes he. Me Yeh files palat lo zara." Opening the files, walking toward the building.

Hmm. This head of production Jaikar makes the deals at different hotel pubs and at end of the month, means we have 15 days from now.

Reaching the floor we were directed to conference room no.1, head of branch Aditya as he introduced himself opened the door and I went in then he. Looking around the room my gaze shifted at the woman sitting at the position of head reading a file. She looked up brushing away her hair that came at her face disturbing her and she was, I didn't expected and gasped her name "Avni."

She was as beautiful as day she left maybe more in that business attire.

Her face held same seriousness when she was at work but my mind couldn't process it. Avni at SAGE, at end of table.

I could be imagining this all, maybe thinking about Avni all time did this, no but at same time it can't be SHE WAS HERE. But here??

But it couldn't be important than her face, her expression turned from irritated by disturbing hair to shock of seeing me then to maybe fear from what I don't know but fixed at a cursing and angry face that was cold and framed properly.

"Officer Neil Khanna." she said in a cold tone as her eyes appeared.

Just then Aditya entered the room, "Ma'am these are the officers in-charge IPS Neil Khanna and ACP Dakhal Dayal Singh."

Ma'am?? Avni??

"Nice to meet you. Well Long time no see." She stated in icy tone.

Finally getting my bearings together, I uttered a full sentence to Avni after almost 3 years later.

"Av...Avni mujhe tumse baat karni he?" because I wanted to just tell her everything that happened, seek forgiveness and have her in my arms and tell her my love and kiss her.

"Its Ms. Avni for you officer." She replied sinking her first dagger "and I don't wanna talk. I'm here on business of Sage's. So, If you are here to help then restrict yourself to It." treating me as a stranger, and it hurt.

It hurt a lot as if were nothing, nothing at all.

Behind me finally DD uttered after the shock "Bhabhi Aap yahaan Mumbai me...?"

"Hey DD, kaise ho?" completely ignoring me and giving her attention to DD. But I had it, I wanted to talk to her and clear things and make it better because I couldn't take it anymore, no more of this distance.

"AVNI I want to talk to you.DAMN IT Talk to me." Thumping my fist on the table, I shouted.

But not missing a beat, "NAHI KARNI MUJHE BAAT NEIL TUMSE JAISE TUMHNE NAHI SOONI MERI." She shouted placing another dagger to heart, and then standing up taking a very calm and cold tone "I'm the boss here. If you want I can show it by making security see you out."

Her eyes burned with anger, betrayal as I stared in those eyes and every emotion pained me, as it should be because I caused them.

"Don't bother Avni." I said resigned I turned and left the room.

Going outside in the hallway I punched my fist in a wall again and again. I resolved myself; I will talk to her even if I have to beg her I would because I couldn't stand her being so close yet so far from me. I wanted her by my side always and forever and I will.

I promised myself I will wait for her and will try damn hard to make her talk and understand and this time I won't even let a hundred Rhea 1.o' to come between. I will make her fall in love with me and bring her back in my life again.

Taking deep breaths, rubbing off some stray tears that escaped and turning myself again toward the conference room direction just as DD come half way towards me opening his mouth to ask me but I replied before

"I'm fine. Lets go back inside. I have a wife to discuss things with."

FINALLY!!! MIL GAYE AVNI AND NEIL.🥳
