Part 2

Neela stood up and reached him, held him by his shoulders and guided him to the seats. Nanno also arrived at that moment after offering her prayers, pleading Allah for the recovery of her dear granddaughter. Shweta, Prakash and Bebe reached soon after worry evident on their faces.

As Neela started narrating the whole scene, they all couldn't help but cry except for Neil. He was too shocked to react. His destiny was playing a cruel game with him it seemed. The time he dreaded the most in his life was back to haunt him in the worst way ever. He knew there was a concept like history repeating, but he didn't have the slightest idea that he would have to face the same.

Neil's birthday was round the corner. Avni was clueless of what special thing to do for him on his day. A person who takes so much care of all the people should be pampered to the core on his day was what she believed. Hence, she ended up calling Neela for help. But in vain. She had to plan her husband's birthday all by herself.

Avni brainstormed a lot and came up with a bunch of things to do. She decorated their room with red roses and lavender scented candles which was Neil's favourite whenever she lighted them up. Dinner was cooked, gifts packed, time was near and birthday cake... That was when she realized she forgot to fetch the cake from the bakery.

Hurriedly, she dialed Ali's number to ask him to bring the cake but when he did not answer she decided to go by herself. All dolled up for her dear husband, she drove the car and headed to the bakers.

Avni came out of the store with a huge chocolate coloured box in hand. She moved to reach her car that was parked on the other side of the road. Unfortunately, a jeep came from her right side in full force that she was left with not even a second to react. The drunkards hit her hard and continued their rash driving without even glancing back at her. With the force, she went and hit her head on the steel rod of the street light and fell unconcious on the spot amidst a pool of her own blood.

Neela put her hands on Neil's shoulder who was frozen from the past five minutes since Neela narrated the whole catastrophe.
Nanno came and sat next to Neil on the other side. Her voice was sore due to continous crying.
Nanno: Moi bachi teek hojayegi Neil. Toi Avni teek hojayegi. Allah haina uske saath. Kuch nahi hone denge moi gudia ko.

Ali who was still rooted to the same place near the ER, listened to her with pain. Pain of not being able to help anyone though he strongly had the urge to do something. Even guilt took a place somewhere in him for missing Avni's calls. He wished he hadn't forgotten his phone in the cafe. He wished he had gone back to cafe' without making up his mind to pick up the phone later. Ali tightened his fist and hit the wall when helplessness and anger started to overtake his pain.

Neil stood up from his seat and moved towards the room. Through the glass he looked at his girl who was lying on the hospital bed with all kinds of machines attached to her fragile body. Her forehead that used to adorn the vermillion, was now covered with layers of white bandage. The contagious smile that her lips carried on proudly was lost somewhere and he coudn't help but blame himself for all this.

N: I promised to take care of you forever and here I am, with a broken promise.
I promised to never let any harm befall you and here I am, with a second broken promise. I promised to give you immense happiness... another broken promise.. I failed you Avni. I failed you. Please wake up...

"Excuse me ma'am, here are the patient's belongings." Neil turned to the voice when he heard that. He ran towards Neela and grabbed the stuff from her. Avni's beautiful peach coloured saari was covered in blood. It was the same saari he gifted her two weeks back. He couldn't even get to see his wife in it for the first time. His gaze then fell on the locket that was more precious to Avni than anything. It was onething she used, to keep both her mothers near her heart.

Neil's behaviour still depicted the deep shock he was in that's why no one bothered to speak to him because they knew it was of no use. Just then, the doctor came out of the room and Neil stood up with a jerk and ran towards him. He bombarded the doctor with a ton of questions.

N: How is Avni? What happened to her? When will she regain her conciousness? When can I see her? Is she okay? Nothing will happen to her right? JUST ANSWER ME FOR GOD SAKE!.

Ali tried to calm him down but before that Neil calmed himself and asked the doctor to speak up in a more lowered tone.

Doc: We can't say anything right now Mr. Khanna. Your wife has lost a lot of blood but thankfully her blood group was of the abundant group and we had enough. But..

Neil: But what?

He was worried. He was tensed. He didn't want to hear the same words again. That his girl didn't survive. That he lost her forever.

Doc: I am afraid the patient might slip into coma if she doesn't wake up within the next 24 hours. But there's always hope."

With that he excused himself leaving behind a bunch of heartbroken family members. As for Neil, he was nowhere in sight now.
