Oh man, what a question. I could write a bloody essay on this topic going by what I have seen and understood of Bani. Let me divide it into pre and post basis her past life revelation.
Pre Past Life Revelation:
Bani initially comes across as a polite girl, and in my language, dull, who does stress eating and talks to animals which is rather lame.🤔 She is a caring person, who loves her foster family and seeks the approval of a foster mother she never receives. She feels a subtle attraction to Jai, who is a desirable bachelor (HOW????) and is in turn impressed by his act of defending Noor's honor, when she is embarrassed and humiliated by Veer publicly, which makes Veer an object of disdain in her view. She is rather quick to judge that Noor's disappearance was the fault of Veer's brothers, not thinking once, that Noor would have disappeared out of shame and guilt.👎🏼 When Noor is found dead, and Veer and his brothers bury her, she very rightly assumes that she died because of Veer. She feels love and hate at the same time for Jai and Veer. No justification for the love👎🏼, but hate is justified👍🏼. She seeks justice for her dead friend, and Veer blocks all her attempts, only to protect his brothers and also flirting his way through it, which earns him even more disgust. All of a sudden eyewitnesses appear out of thin air and Naina, another useless Naagin is saved from two Cheels by the timely intervention of Naagin Bani👍🏼who is aware of who she is, and she has a certain sense of pride in herself, which I did feel. Matlab, I felt it was written all over her face, I am a Naagin and I am proud of it👎🏼. To add further fuel to the fire, Naina is abducted by the Cheels and she dies in the truck blast, initiated by Ballu, to protect the family. Bani's anger over this too is completely justified.👍🏼 She is saved by the timely arrival of Veer, which she obviously doesn't know. She reaches home to be greeted by Veer and a marriage proposal intended for Meera. She confronts Veer and later bumps into Jai who till now has been receiving visions of a past, which is now even seen by Bani, and both embark on a journey to revisit the past. At the Naag mandir, both Jai and Bani recall the past, and Bani swears vengeance over the Cheels with Jai by her side, before their supposed union.👎🏼
Post Past Life Revelation:
Post this revelation, her only motive is the destruction of all Cheels, whereas this life was chosen by her to find her lover and complete the union which was left incomplete in Satyug. But Bani chooses revenge over love👎🏼. She decides to get married to Jai the same day as Veer and Meera to show her hate for Veer👎🏼. In the midst of all this, Jai is kidnapped and supposedly flung off from the cliff by Veer, which turns out to be Teer, his twin brother. Veer distraught over Teer's death marries Bani to wreck her life and Bani vows the same. After marriage her first target is Ponky and she tries to trigger Ponky to attack her, the only instance till now👍🏼 only to be halted by Veer. She tries harassing the Cheel family, to be stopped by Veer each time. Then enters Mayuri, who is morni and they engage in verbal and physical catfights, which is lame and unnecessary.👎🏼 Jai turns out to be alive and he does mention that Veer did not try to kill him, but Bani conveniently ignores the truth👎🏼. Bani to instigate Veer shamelessly goes and dances in front of Ballu's business associates👎🏼, but the guy does not get incensed but is humored by her ruse. She again tries to instigate him by messing with Teer's supposed coffin👍🏼 only to be stopped by Veer and later is saved by JaMayShu's attempt to kill her. Bani's strong moral and ethical compass compels her to save Veer because she wants to kill him in a fair fight and not by stealth👍🏼. Post that Jai infiltrates the Singhania family only to be caught by his scent and attempt to breach the Rudraksh ka Mayajaal. Bani, on the other hand, is clueless why Jai's scent is caught👎🏼 but she realizes had she killed Teer, her scent would be caught and she would have been exposed too, which leads her to the truth of Teer's death👍🏼. And after this, she is shown doing nothing fruitful, except loitering in the mansion like Peeves and locating a stone, which is controlled by her and Veer. She successfully identifies fake Veer👍🏼and saves the Cheels from the stone👍🏼, with no sign of feeling any curiosity as to where did her husband disappear👎🏼.
So summarizing my point, Bani is a polite and decent girl but there is a lack of emotional connection to her family or friends or supposed lover. The only emotion that defines her overall is her unbridled hate for Veeranshu, triggered in the present by his actions and supported by Aakesh's actions in the past and a curse that has left her bitter and vitriolic, overwhelming every other emotion within her. The lack of emotion for any other character she considers her own is because the only thing she feels within her is hate.
I mean, I have seen people with hate dude, for instance, Maya Jaisingh from Beyhadh 2. She had undergone trauma, humiliation, physical and mental torture, and that pain was evident when she was avenging her perpetrators. But Bani, no other emotion or feeling comes across to us. We can understand her POV and pain, when we think and explain ourselves about it, not because Bani can convey her pain to us because Bani conveys only hate and hate and hate.
Hate has blinded her to anything good that is possible by the Cheels, because in her opinion they are incapable of good. Hate does not make her see the faults of anyone else, hate makes her consider that everything in her life is Veer's fault, hate makes her a tantrum-oriented, arrogant, temperamental, childish, petty, and an immature snob, and she has a Mean Girls version as well only for her darling Mayuri. She is Bani only namesake because she breathes Naageshwari in her behavior and speech. As Bani, she had more control over her thoughts and actions, but now all control has shifted to Naageshwari. Bani hates Veer, mostly because Naageshwari hates and does not trust Aakesh. Bani trusts Jai, and might I add, does not love Jai, but she is with him because Naageshwari loved Hriday. If these are not enough, Bani's characterization as a Naagin is weak and lame, where she has been reduced to a petty streetside goon, who gives petty death threats, utilizes lame tactics to antagonize her opponents, and is perpetually confused, and angry. That's Bani for me.
Well, I did write a thesis, not even an essay. Sorry girls for a long read.😊
