I think you are right. The Sehgal must have something that Sumitra needs very badly that she took the hassle to kill the real Sumi and took her place in the first place. Then taking care of Mahir and Kuhu even showing love more to Mahir than her own son. She must also has something some reasons to have persuaded Bella in the first place to marry Mahir. Even to the extent of going after her and taking her back after she left the Mandhap.
