I know my chapter length in inconsistent, but I was simply trying to leave it at a suspense point in order to maintain the flow.

As for, after two days, I will be posting on weekdays and nothing on weekends. I think the next chapter is also a small one. I am still learning the skill. Please bear with me. 😊

CHAPTER 10

When he reached home, everybody was in a celebratory mood. They were all surprised to see him home without Bella. He couldn't bring himself to wipe off those happy smiles from their faces, so he pretended that he had come home to plan surprise party for Bella. Everybody agreed that it was a fantastic idea. Everybody began to make preparations for the party.

At the office, when Bella noticed that Mahir was missing, she asked a few people. But no one seemed to know where Mahir was. She tried calling him but his phone was not reachable. She had noticed that Mahir was behaving in a very weird manner since they both had had a talk in her cabin, but she had simply thought they were pre-meeting jitters. Once the meeting was over, she noticed that he had been actively avoiding her. He had not even hugged her back when she had hugged him. At that time she thought maybe he did not want to hug her in front of their team member, now she was beginning to wonder what was wrong?

She told their team mates to continue the party under Tanvi's supervision and decided to head home. When she reached home, the whole house was in pitch darkness. She was puzzled. As she approached the front door, it opened automatically and once she was inside it closed after her. For a moment there was complete darkness, and the very next moment there were lights everywhere. She saw her whole family standing in front of her.

The next instant she was engulfed in a bear hug by her brother Rehan. Behind him Amma , Appa were looking so proud. Sumi ma and Kuhu looked delirious with joy. Only exception was Mahir. He was smiling, but that smile did not reach his eyes. It looked as if his eyes were full of some unbearable pain. If she didn't know better she would have thought that Mahir was jealous of her success. But she knew Mahir would never feel jealous of her success. In fact he would always say that she deserves a lot more success than he does. Something was bothering him for sure. But she couldn't think of what it was.

Anyways there was no time to dwell on that, she was being affectionately hugged by everyone. Rehan had become very emotional.

R: I can't believe that my little Bells has grown up so much. I am so so so proud of you sis.

B: Bhai! You are crying? Don't cry Rehan. I will always be your darling little Bells, no matter what.

K: Bella, Mahir you have made us so proud.

M: Bella did most of it. It's her success. I can't stake a claim on it. It's her day.

B: No Mahir, this project would have been impossible without you. You supported me whenever I was on the verge of giving up. You brought me back on track whenever I lost track of things. You stood by me at every turn. You are the best partner and friend that a girl could ask for.

Bella's statement stung Mahir. Each time she looked at him with trust in her eyes, he would feel himself hating himself more and more. He felt like screaming, don't trust me. I have broken your trust in worst way possible. He looked away. Just then Rehan pulled her away for a dance. She was happily dancing with Rehan, but her eyes kept flickering towards him. For the next couple of hours everyone danced and enjoyed themselves.

Just when Mahir thought he couldn't take it anymore, he saw Bella stumble. He quickly grabbed her before she could hit the ground. Rehan stopped the music. Mahir noticed that she was unconscious. Without waiting for anyone, he swiftly carried her to the couch and laid her down. Kuhu got a glass of water for her. Even after sprinkling water on her face for some time, Bella had not opened her eyes.

Sumi ma: I wonder if she has eaten anything. In all this excitement we all forgot that she was not feeling well. I will make her eat something as soon as she wakes up.

Amma: I hope she is alright.

Mahir couldn't control himself anymore. He almost shouted

M: No she is not. She is pregnant.

Appa: What?

M: Yes Appa she is pregnant... With my kid...

Sumi ma: Mahir what are you saying? When did this happen?

M: Remember that day we couldn't come home so we spent the night at our Lonavala farmhouse? We spent the night together that day.

Amma: Are you out of your senses? How could she do this?

M: Amma it's not her fault. I am to blame.

Sumi ma: Meaning?

M: She was ill and quite unconscious. I... I...

His words were cut off as Sumi ma slapped him.

Sumi ma: How could you Mahir? That too with Bella? This is not my son. Today you have proved that you are indeed your father's son. I don't know this boy.

Amma: Sumitra, he not only one to be blamed. He at least had the guts to tell us the truth. But Bella? She hid the whole incidence from us. Tell me Mahir is Bella aware of all that had happened that night?

M: Amma she is really innocent...

Amma: Just amswer my question Mahir. Is she aware?

M: Yes. But she doesn't know that she is pregnant.

Amma: See Sumitra, it takes two to tango. If she had had a problem with what had happened then she would have told us. Said something. But she kept mum. It's not like we would have disbelieved her if she had told us. But no, she didn't say anything. So that means whatever had happened had happened with her consent. We will ask her once she wakes up.

Sumi ma: No I am not going to wait for her to wake up. I am calling the police right now. I want to see Mahir behind the bars.

Appa: Sumitra, control your anger. He is our son. You can't simply send him to jail without verifying it with Bella.

Sumi ma: He might be your son, but he is no son of mine. I have no relation with him. He has as good as confessed to taking advantage of Bella while she was semi-conscious. What more proof do you want?

Amma: Sumitra, let's ask Bella. Let's see what she says. Don't take any rash decision.

Just the Bella stirred feebly. Mahir moved towards her but Sumi ma roughly held him back. Bella opened her eye. Amma started asking her something when Kuhu stopped her.

Kuhu: Let her eat something first Amma. If what Mahir is saying is true then we will have to take extra care.

Sumi ma went inside and brought out dahi chawal for Bella and fed her with her own hands. Once Bella had had sufficient to eat she made her drink water with glucose powder with it.

Amma: Are you done Sumitra? Can I ask her something?

Sumi ma: Yes. Go ahead.

Amma: Bella what happened at Lonavala?

B: What?

Amma: Don't you what me. Tell me what happened at the farmhouse. Anything worth telling? Did something happen that was against your wish?

B: (She was looking at Mahir. But Mahir was looking at the floor) No

Amma: See Sumitra I told you so. You would have sent Mahir to jail for nothing.

B: Whoa!!! Ma why were you planning to send Mahir to jail?

Sumi ma: He told us everything that happened at the farmhouse. He himself said you were only semi-conscious when he... he.. he..

B: Ma although I was having high fever, I had not yet reached the delirious stage. I was fully aware of what was happening around me. Mahir did NOT do anything that I didn't want him to do. But why all the fuss?

Appa: Because Bella, Mahir says you are pregnant.

Okay guys I have a problem. The problem is that last night while writing for the wedding sequence, I came across some very beautiful rituals that I would like to add in to the story. Adding these rituals will help in a lot of emotional development of BeHir.

But adding these rituals will also mean rewriting a bunch of chapters. So I might not be able to update as regularly as I would like to.
