Animated Himesh Reshammiya - For lovers and haters

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

You have seen Himesh Reshammiya on the big screen, right? Love him or hate him, but it was not possible to ignore him after all in AAP KAA SURROOR - THE MOVIEE.

Scenario 1 - If you have loved him then here is an opportunity to take home the animated version of Himesh Reshammiya. How? Very simple. After promoting the animated music video of the remix version of Reshammiya's song 'Ye Tera Mera Milna' on the small screen and including it along with the end title roll of the film, the music company has come up with a special edition DVD and VCD. These DVDs and VCDs not just include the animated music video but also number of his other hit songs.

Scenario 2 - If you have hated him then well, you can't help it! The promos of both the film and the music are continuing on full screen and the only way to ignore him is switch off your television sets, stop listening to FM and keep your eyes closed while ignoring the hoardings on the streets!

It's often been quoted that there are no permanent friends or foes in the film industry. And that has been proved correct once again, this time by Ram Gopal Varma and Himesh Reshammiya since they have agreed to work together.

When Reshammiya declined to score music for Ram Gopal Varma ke Sholay (now tentatively titled Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag), Varma was miffed with him.

However, seeing the good initial response to Reshammiya's Aap kaa Surroor, Varma is now thinking otherwise. And now, he's planning a musical thriller with the singer-composer-turnedactor.

A source informs, "Despite being currently busy with the post-production of Sholay and re-working the script for Sarkar II, Ramuji is planning to make a quickie with Himesh, who will play the main protagonist in it. Besides, of course, he'll score the film's music too,"

Reshammiya was non-committal, "Ramuji has always been a pillar of support to me and had always predicated that Aap Ka Surroor would be a huge success before its release. He complimented me saying he loved the intensity in my eyes."

When pursued, he maintained, "Ramuji called me to congratulate me on the success of my debut film. That's it."

Varma didn't respond to our queries

Himesh Reshmiya Gives It His BestBy Michael Gomes, Staff Writer

"I will only talk about Aap Kaa Surroor and nothing else," growls Himesh Reshammiya.

Judging from the tone of his voice – which thankfully doesn't sound as nasal as his songs – he is in a sullen mood. Perhaps it's justified...

After all, what are you expected to do when you are embroiled in a controversy even before your first film is released?

I hope audiences accept me in my new role as an actor. Himesh Reshammiya

Reshammiya, for those who do not know, had to apologise recently for having hurt religious sentiments. The reason?

It came to light that he had visited the Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishti shrine in Ajmer, Rajasthan wearing a burqa (a veil worn by Asian Muslim women) to pray for the movie's success. "If I made a mistake, I apologise for it," he said.

Understandably he is keen that his venture into acting does not end in disaster. The question on everyone's lips is why should a well-established singer-composer take up acting. After all Sonu Nigam is the perfect example of a singer not making the cut in Bollywood.

Reshammiya, of course, does not emulate anyone, or so he states. Does he then take inspiration from the legendary Kishore Kumar?

"Kishoreda is a role model for any aspiring singer-actor," states Reshammiya.

"Be it in terms of acting, or singing, I don't think anyone can match his talents. Having said that, I will still give it my best shot."

And then there's the question of Emraan Hashmi. The stubble and worn-out jeans seem quintessentially Hashmi.

So is he modelling himself on the actor? Not on his life, he avers.

"I attribute my styling to Roopa Chadha [sister of director Prashant Chadha]."

So what made him get into acting? Reshammiya says, "Prashant, who is also my buddy, thought I would make a good actor. It was he who coaxed me into working for this movie."

Himesh is confident about his acting skills.

"I've always believed that if I put my heart into anything, I can do it well. My success in music and singing are proof enough. I feel I've given a heartfelt performance in my first movie, and am sure audiences will appreciate my effort," he says.

And for those wishing to emulate the man, Reshammiya is planning to open the HR (Himesh Reshammiya) School of Music.

That makes him a singer, composer, actor and an educator. What next?

"Only God knows. I hope audiences accept me in my new role as an actor. Only then can I do justice to each of my three talents in the future."

What about pre-release rumours about Aap Kaa Surroor being based on his life?

"This movie has nothing to do with my personal experiences. I would however say that I have addressed most questions people have always been keen to know. My looks, why I never smile, why I wear a cap etc. The movie will answer all these and more.

"June 29, the date the movie was released is also my mum's birthday. It's a very auspicious day for me," says Reshammiya.

Auspicious? Maybe. Supersti-tious? Definitely.

Himesh is hit

Posted at Thursday, 05 July 2007 12:07 IST
Mumbai, July 5: The three movies which hit the theatres last week have received mix response at the box office, the Deols' 'Apne', Emraan Hashmi's 'Awaarapan' and Himesh Reshammiya's 'Aap ka Suroor'— were on the audience's ordeal.

'Aap ka Suroor' is undoubtedly the hottest film of the year and has received very good opening. The promotion of the film had been extremely aggressive and hard-hitting.

'Aap Ka Suroor' is Himmesh Reshammiya's debut film as an actor, where he has played himself.

The movie also stars Hansika Motvani of Koi Mil Gaya fame and to add to the spice is none other than Mallika Sherwat, who does a Mehbooba Mehbooba.

Himesh is not a star but his performance in 'Aap Ka Suroor' is definitely laudable.

All three movies belong to different genres. 'Apne' is a movie soaked with emotions and promises a brilliant performance by Dharmendra.

'Apne' is a complete family film. With the three Deols coming together, the movie has proved to be a major attraction for their fans in Punjab. But in rest part of the country it has got average opening.

'Awarapan' doesn't seem that promising. The only known face in it is that of Emraan Hashmi. The movie would have done well if it was released after the two movies.

The movie was expected to give Emraan Hashmi's career a new lease but it seems hardly working.

Heads & Tales
6 Jul 2007, 0000 hrs IST,PALLAVI KHARADE,TIMES NEWS
When it comes to matters of the head, it seems that both Bollywood actors and the masses love to make cool fashion statements. PT reports
Himesh Reshammiya wears it all the time. In fact, many Bollywood actors can't do without it. Whether he is singing or romancing with the heroine, Reshammiya can't let go off his much talked-about trademark baseball cap. Other stars like Salman Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Aamir Khan, Govinda, Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dutt wear baseball caps on and off. Jackie Shroff loves to wear his bandana, and he carries it off really well too. With the masses emulating their screen idols as well, what explains the popularity of headgear?

Explains Raj Kapadia, fashion designer, "Wearing headgear is a style statement. The kind of headgear depends on the type of attitude one has. For Reshammiya, his trademark caps are more of a good luck charm than a style statement . We have got so used to seeing him wear a cap all the time that we won't be able to recognise him if he takes it off. As for people, it's just a fad and has limited lifespan. If any star is wearing it, they will copy it for some time and then they will forget about it." Kapadia says that headgear is certainly not a new trend. "Earlier, Bollywood villains like K N Singh, Amrish Puri and Madan Puri used to wear caps not only in reel life, but in real life as well."

Deepti Soni, stylist and fashion designer, says, "Not only Bollywood actors, but even Hollywood celebrities like Nicole Richie have been sporting scarves. These scarves are made from very fine luxurious fabric like quality satin or silk, and are very much in demand. Many Indian models too have been wearing long skinny scarves both on and off the ramp. As far as Bollywood heroes are concerned, stars like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, John Abraham and Akshaye Khanna have been always wearing the basic baseball cap."

Besides the baseball cap, trucker's cap, which is slightly softer and squarish than the baseball cap, has also been in vogue. "Wearing headgear is a mix of attitude, style and comfort . If you are having bad hair days, you can just put on a cap or a scarf and, viola, you look fantastic," says Soni.

While cricketer-turned-actor Salil Ankola feels that most of the stars wear headgear to hide their receding hairlines, model-turned-actor Gautam Kapoor, who always sports his favourite cap, feels it is more about comfort than a style statement. "Headgear is a very personalised accessory. It depends on one's personal taste and style, and also how one looks at it. As far as I am concerned, I have a small air force cap with small stripes. It is not only my favourite cap, but I take pride in my possession . It's comfortable, cool and looks good," says Gautam.

However, television actor Manoj Bohra, who was once very fond of headgears, now believes in flaunting his hair rather than headgear. "Sometime back, I used to wear caps, hats, bandanas - anything that looked good on my head. But now, I consider my hair as the best headgear and try to keep it as stylish as possible . But I might go back to headgear," says he.

So, whether it is to hide the receding hairlines , or for comfort, or for making a style statement, the headgear has been a great fashion accessory. And, it still is. So, do you wear it too?

I'm nobody to judge Himesh'

From a child artiste to Reshammiya's lady love in 'Aap Ka Suroor', Hannsikaa Motwani has 'grown' overnight literally.

'When did she grow up?' is the question that hit viewers when they saw Hannsikaa Motwani (appeared as child artiste in the TV show 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' and the film 'Koi Mil Gaya') playing Himesh Reshammiya's love interest in 'Aap ka Surroor'.

Also, the curiosity that was built up by keeping her away from the media glare was immense. "Yes, care was taken to keep the female lead under wraps," confesses Hansika. "I guess it was done simply because had I been questioned about my work before the movie's release, I wouldn't have been able to speak much," explains Hannsikaa.

What's the secret behind her sudden and noticeable makeover? "I honestly don't know. People say that I have taken hormone injections or undergone some kind of surgery. It's really ridiculous to talk like that," laughs off the new damsel on the block.

Incidentally, Hannsikaa is already a couple of movies old down South, apart from Himesh's debut flick. "The industry there has some great actors. In fact, they call me 'golden leg', simply because they feel I am lucky for them," smiles Hannsikaa.

While critics may have lashed out at Himesh's acting skills, Hannsikaa has a different opinion. "More than being a good actor, he is a very good human being. I don't care what people say about him or his singing. The bottom line is that Himesh has proved himself. I'm nobody to judge him," states Hannsikaa.

While she claims to be like any other college going teenager and manages her studies via her laptop, acting as a career was always on her mind. "My mom knew that I would be an actor. She kept pushing me and maybe that's why I am here," explains Hannsikaa.
The debutante has gained a sizeable fan following. She says, "Just last week, a lady with her child stood outside my door. She had even brought chocolates and flowers along. It was heartwarming."
