Music, the greatest good that mortals know,

And all of Heaven we have below

- Anonymous

Music has rightly been described as the 'mirror of our souls'. Some even adjudge it as the 'medicine of breaking hearts' or if we believe in Plato's words, it has been described beautifully as 'music is to the mind as air is to the body'. And none of us can really contest this point.

After all, music has always been found to impart an amazing, positive impact on human beings – whether physical, emotional or spiritual, at all times. It has lent its soothing effect to us whenever we are happy, sad, frustrated, terrified, fearful, angry, whimsical, totally mad, shocked or experiencing any other such emotions. And we always tend to take refuge in music especially when we have broken hearts to tend and mend and fend.

Music has a language of its own and communicates differently to different people. It is often seen that a similar piece of music imparts different emotional outbursts in different individuals.

Just as Andersen would mention – 'Where words fail, music speaks'

We are all aware that we all are touched by some song or another in our daily lives, a song that doesn't fail to stoke the romantic embers in our lives.

For me its 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko … ' from Yaadon K Baraat, amongst a few others, which always manages to transport me into a sweet romantic getaway no matter what, even if I am getting a royal blasting from my Boss. Its my way of escapism, you see!😆

So do come and share with us your most romantic song that turns you on immediately and pushes you to a romantic genre and why?

You may even post lyrics if you so desire.

Beautifully written Sangs! For me personally music is a medium in which I live my dreams, let out my frustration and think about what life could be like. They say that music is a Universal Language. Truth be told, they say the same thing about Mathematics; however, not everybody understands math, whereas everybody understands music (no matter how besura you are! 😉). It is the medium in which you can see ones bare soul, feel ones emotions and hear ones joy or sorrow.

For me personally, one of the best aspects of a song are the lyrics, and more often than not I find myself noting the song lyrics that touch me the most. I generally listen to Hindi music, as I find it to be extremely diverse in its styling, but more meaningful in its lyrics. You can call me an emotional fool, but one song that almost guaranteed brings tears to my eyes is "Phoolon ka taro ka, sabka kehna hai, ek hazaaron mein, meri behena hain, saari umar humme sang rehna hain…" I, of course, think of my one and only sister when this song plays, and think of exactly what she means to me. Without her, my life would be totally different.. it wouldn't be worth living.

In terms of romantic songs, my faves include 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak' (as you can probably tell by my siggy) and my alltime favorites 'Kabhi Kabhi' (Film: Kabhi Kabhie) (which I think almost everyone loves), 'Hum Bewafa Hargiz na the' (Film: Shalimar) (awesome lyrics here!), 'Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar' (Film: Junglee), 'Tu Pyar Hai Kisi Aur Ka'(Film: Dil Hai ki Manta Nahin), ' and 'Suraj Hua Maddham' (Film: K3G). In regards to the last one, it's the lyrics that get me everytime.

Suraj hua maddham, Chaand jalne lagaa

Aasmaan yeh haye, kyun pighalne laga

Main thehra raha, zameen chalne lagi

Dhadka yeh dil, saans thamne lagi

Kya yeh mera pehle pehla pyar hai

Sajna kya yeh mera pehla pehla pyar hain

Hain khoobsurat yeh pal, Sab kuch raha hai badal

Sapne haqeeqat mein jo dhal rahe hain

Kya sadiyon se purana, hai rishta yeh humara

Ke jis tarah tumse hum mil rahe hain

Yunhi rahe har dum, pyar ka mausam

Yunhi milo humse, tum janam janam

Tere hi rang se yun main to rangeen hoon sanam

Paake tujhe khud se hi kho rahi hoon sanam

Oh mahiya, ve tere ishq mein

Haan dubke paar main ho rahi hoon sanam

Saagar hua pyaasa, raat dhalne lagi

Sholo ke dil mein bhi, aag jalne lagi

Main thehri rahi, zameen chalne lagi

Dhadka yeh dil, saans thamne lagi

Kya yeh mera pehla pehla pyar hai.

Sajna, kya yeh mera pehla pehla pyar hai..

I have found that my appreciation for music has come primarily from my father, whose vast collection of the golden oldies has turned me into a self proclaimed ace at antakshari. Not only that but my fondness for Jagjit Singh ghazals has stemmed from there too (My faves being 'Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho' and 'Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya') . I have not met too many girls (like me born and raised in the US), who appreciate his music as I do (not to say there isnt anyone.. I just havent met them yet!).

I think that music is what brings the world together, and although we may not understand one anothers language, we can always understands ones emotions through music, no matter what country you are from.

Awesome post Sangs! Thanks for this!

( I totally forgot to add my other all time fave! 'Chalte chalte' (Film: Pakeezah).. )

Sangs,

Your post reminded me of that scene from Kyun ki when salman khan is trying to get music and he gives a big huge speech on how music is important (he looked cho chweet there).

Hasne main rone main khane main peene main sangeet hi sangeet hai(i don't remember the rest😆).

My favorite song which always elicits an emotional response is Tadap tadap ke from Hum dil de chuke sanam. The song not only describes the situation perfectly but also the lyrics are beautiful and describes love in it's true sense. It shows the anguish felt by a lover perfectly. And not only in just the man-woman love but also any other relationship this song would be apt.

Here are lyrics for the song:

Bejaan Dil Ko
Bejaan Dil Ko
Bejaan Dil Ko Tere Ishq Ne Zinda Kiya
Phir Tere Ishq Ne Hi Is Dil Ko Tabah Kiya

Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Ajab Hai Ishq Yaara
Pal Do Pal Ki Khushiyaan
Gam Ke Khazaane Milte Hain
Milti Hai Tanhaiyaan
Kabhi Aansoon Kabhi Aahein
Kabhi Shikve Kabhi Naalein
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye Mujhe Din Ke Ujaalon Mein
Teri Yaadein Tadpayein
Teri Yaadein Tadpayein Raaton Ke Andheron Mein
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye
Machal Machalke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Agar Mile Khuda To
Poochhoonga Khudaya
Jism Mujhe Deke Mitti Ka
Sheeshay Sa Dil Kyon Banaya
Aur Us Pe Diya Fitrat
Ke Woh Karta Hai Mohabbat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat Us Pe De Diya Kismat
Kabhi Hai Milan Kabhi Furqat
Kabhi Hai Milan Kabhi Furqat Hai Yehi Kya Vo Mohabbat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat
Sisak Sisakke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein

Take care,

Shina

Wow sangs, thanks so much for the PM, I would have hated to miss out on this one!! I totally agree with what you say, which is why I love using songs in my FF's so regularly. I find they often say what you can't put into words - and say it much better than any words you might have used! 😳

I am a massive fan of yesteryear tracks, not to say there aren't any new ones that transport me to a "sweet romantic getaway"!! 😊

These include (as well as my favourite verses of each):

Tere Bina Zindagi Se - Aandhi

Tere bina zindagi se koi, shikwa toh nahi, shikwa nahi, shikwa nahi...
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin, zindagi toh nahi, zindagi nahi, zindagi nahi...

Kaash aisa ho tere qadmo se, chun ke manzil chale aur kahi door kahi...
Tum gar saath ho, manzilo ki kami to nahi...

Jee mein aata hai, tere daaman mein, sar jhuka ke ham rote rahe, rote rahe...
Teri bhi aankho mein, aansuo ki nami to nahi...

Tum jo keh do to aaj ki raat, chaand doobega nahi, raat ko rok lo...
Raat ki baat hai, aur zindagi baaki to nahi...

Tere bina zindagi se koi, shikwa toh nahi, shikwa nahi, shikwa nahi...
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin, zindagi toh nahi, zindagi nahi, zindagi nahi...

Jab Koi Baat - Jurm

Jab koi baat bigad jaaye jab koi mushkil pad jaaye
Tum dena saath mera o humnawaaz...
Na koi hai na koi tha zindage mein tumhaare siva
Tum dena saath mera o humnawaaz...

Ho chaandni jab tak raat deta hai har koi saath
Tum magar andheron mein na chhodna mera haath

Wafadaari ki vo rasmein nibhayenge hum tum kasmein
Ek bhi saans zindagi ki jab tak ho apne bas mein

Dil ko mere hua yakeen hum pehle bhi mile kahin
Silsila ye sadiyon ka koi aaj ki baat nahin

Jab koi baat bigad jaaye jab koi mushkil pad jaaye
Tum dena saath mera o humnawaaz...
Na koi hai na koi tha zindage mein tumhaare siva
Tum dena saath mera o humnawaaz...

Agar Tum Na Hote - Title Track - one of my all time favourites, still brings tears to my eyes...

Hamen aur jeene ki chaahat na hoti...
Agar tum na hote, agar tum na hote...

Tumhen dekhke to lagta hai aise
Bahaaron ka mausam aaya ho jaise...
Dikhaayi na deti andheron mein jyoti
Agar tum na hote, agar tum na hote

Hamein jo tumhaara sahaara na miltaa
Bhanvar mein hi rehte kinaara na miltaa...
Kinaare pe bhi to leher aa duboti
Agar tum na hote, agar tum na hote

Tumhen kyaa bataaoon ke tum mere kyaa ho

Among the newer tracks, I love:

Main Yahaan Hoon - Veer Zaara
a haunting melody, very sensuous picturisation, stunning lyrics

Jiya Dhadak Dhadak - Kalyug
Ks-ians - need i explain...? 😉

Dil De Diya - Masti
a beautiful track, gives me goosebumps when i listen to it!! 😳

Thoda Sa Pyar Hua Hai - cant remember the name of the film
a lovely tune, nice lyrics, good description of the insecurity you feel in love, though choosing to fall anyway...

Dil Kahin Hosh Kahin - Jagjit and asha Album of the same name
a gorgeous song, so romantic, and the singers blow your minds with their quality performances, as always!

I'm sure there are hundreds more 😆 but i think i have rambled enough already!!! 😃

Music is truly food for the soul....😳

Ok... I have too many to list here... at the moment my best romantic song is from Salaam e ishq - both the title track as well as Dil kya kare... the words are divine!

This post is actually very appropriate for me now cos I watched Music and Lyrics (Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore) last night. The song back to love in the movie is really sweet...

My favorite romantic songs would be from the old movie Saraswatichandra

Phool tumhe bheja hain khat mein

and

Chandan sa badan, chanchal chitwan

From the newer movies:

Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein (Kabhi Kabhi)

Tere Liye (Veer Zaara)
