Yeh Jem, I too hate the attitude of the reporter..he was asking too much personal questions.I just hate it. And about the comments in brackets...they do it often. Graffiti is for teens and twins and its the speciality of the magazine they put their own comments with every articles.

Music Review: Shaka Laka Boom Boom NEW! By Sanjay Ram
3 March 2007, 06:30 PM

Film: Shaka Laka Boom Boom

Music: Himesh Reshammiya

Lyrics: Sameer

Rating: 3/5

With fourteen tracks to choose from (nine originals and five remixes), Suneel Darshan has managed to shy away from convention, by offering peppy and club worthy tracks in his forthcoming film Shaka Laka Boom Boom. The music provided by Himesh Reshammiya, reflects his unique style. The best way to hear the soundtrack would be to stand in Reshammiya's concert and hear him sing it to a live audience.

In tune:

The title track, Shaka Laka Boom Boom by Reshammiya himself along with Akriti Kakkar and a few rap verses by Earl is a complete party number. Surprisingly Himesh doesn't sound like his usual self and actually makes you want to dance to the number. Listening to the song, you can break out in dance.

The song Namumkin carries a Himesh Reshammiya trademark stamp. The song has Himesh breaking out in a solo, topped with the use of the usual instruments like the Violin and drums. If promoted well, this song can go on to become another one to be added in his bag of successful songs. The remix version of Namumkin is also great.

Yet another trademark track is Dil Lagaayenge, rendered once again by Himesh alongside Akriti Kakkar. This song sounds like something out of the trunk and sent through a remix machine, resultant, a peppy and dance worthy number.

With a tad bit of Middle Eastern flange in it the Dil Lagaayenge remix is a great hear. Somehow though a trademark song, you do not get tired of it. Like a few other of his songs this one does not leave you feeling exhausted.

Hardly two minutes in duration is Issi Umeed Pe sung by Shaan. The song is nothing phenomenonal nor is it any different. It is simply ok, worth a listen. Somehow the song does not end with you wanting to hear more of Shaan, instead you will find yourself satisfied with it, just the way it is.

Yet another short and sweet song is Saathiya sung by Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan. This one is a good track to follow Issi Umeed Pe, a short and well placed track. Songs like these actually provide the listener with the feeling of listing to a complete album.

Sounding something out of the Pop War that was going on in the late 90's is Aaj Nahi Toh Kal by Sunidhi Chahan and Shaan. Hardly over a minute this song ends even before it can make an impression. This is precisely what one can call short and sweet.

Tera Sona Sona Roop by Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan is another short song. It is a great track and the pace enables you to enjoy not only the music but the lyrics penned by Sameer as well.

Rukhsat rendered by Shaan, sounds like one of those tracks used in films to depict change or an event. It is hardly a minute long and is worth a repeat. It is well sung, but sadly enough it is Himesh who manages to rock the entire album.

The Shaka Laka Boom Boom remix is foot tapping and is a better party number that the original one. This one is the best among his recent works. Imagining a packed club partying away, with this track playing, it works!

One should be able to hear the medley to then hear the remix of it. The track has no Medley but certainly carries in it a remix of the 'medley'. The Medley remix is great as you end up hearing the best part of each song. Hear the medley before you pick up the soundtrack, this way you end up hearing a bit of each track, aiding you to make your decision of purchasing it or to think otherwise.

Out of Tune:

Thaare Vaaste rendered by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan is irritatingly painful. It is not badly sung nor is it bad music. It simply gets on your nerves, the prime reason being the background beats that are unbelievably monotonous and beyond a point manage to get on the last nerve. This song is nothing like Himesh's smash hit songs, this one is a total bummer.

One fails to understand why Remixes of mournful songs are ever made. It is bad enough that you have to hear an original version, topping that up with a remix is pure torture. The remix of Thaare Vaaste is best heard in fast forward.

The Remixes in the album are the work of Akbar Sami, the remixes are well done and actually manage to successfully convert medium paced songs to boogie able club numbers. A great difference from the music in Suneel Darshan's previous films, you can expect this soundtrack to do as well as those of his earlier films. Reshammiya's popularity is surely going to help sell the music, provided it is marketed correctly.

The sound track of SLBB is good and certainly worth a buy, more so for all the Himesh Reshammiya fans.

The auto-man empire

Himesh Reshammiya has flown down six autorickshaws to Germany for his film shoot (since his biggest fans are rickshaw drivers)

Kunal M Shah

Driving force: Himesh Reshammiya
Himesh Reshammiya songs inspire deejays to television show hosts, but his biggest fans apparently, are autorickshaw drivers. Working on this assumption, the singer-songwriter-actor has enlisted six autorickshaw drivers for a vital pre-climax shoot in his film, in Germany. The entire sequence will cost Rs 75 lakh, and presumablythis is the first time that autorickshaws will be seen on German roads.

"The pre-climax of the film is integral to the love story," he says. But why the autorickshaws? "It's a tribute to my fans, many of whom are rickshaw drivers. Unfortunately, I can't divulge any more details at this point," says Himesh.

Apparently, he was also referred to as the Robbie Williams of India at the Berlin Film Festival. Himesh laughs, "I don't want any tags but I am happy since Robbie Williams is a great guy."

When quizzed about the two leading ladies in his film, he says, "I can't divulge more information now. Wait and watch, we have a surprise up our sleeves." Finally, when quizzed about his weight loss, he says, "Yes, I have lost a lot of weight for my role. Don't you like me slim?"

It's a tribute to my fans, many of whom are rickshaw drivers. Unfortunately, I can't divulge any more details at this point — Himesh Reshammiya

by Tanushree Saha

Hence when Himesh Reshammiya is roped in by Darshan to provide music for his upcoming film 'Shakalaka Boom Boom' along with lyricist Sameer.

After hearing the album, you realize that SLBB comes quite close, if not 100%, on all the three counts.

More often than not, the music turned out to be the talking point about his films, even long after they were off the theaters.

Title song 'Shakalaka Boom Boom' starts off with a rap by Earl who is soon joined by Himesh Reshammiya behind the mike.

What may come as a surprise is the fact that Reshammiya voice does sound a little different than his trademark style as he settles to medium notes.

Remix version of the song arrives later and does quite well for itself again as a funky club track.

It would be fun to see if the four lead protagonists - Bobby Deol, Celina Jaitley, Kangana and Upen Patel - appear in yet another music video of the song.

Lively mood continues with 'Thaare Vaaste' which is in the same foot tapping mode as Reshammiya songs from the early years of this century.

This rhythmic love song keeps moving on along with the beats and though it won't quite set the charts on fire due to its predictable nature, it is that very predictability of being a Bollywood number that makes it a good number to hear and watch.

The remix version of the song is the first track in the album that doesn't work since what it only does is an unnecessary enhancement to the pace with some added beats.

Next 'Naamumkin' is a song that deserves to be heard most for Sameer's lyrics than anything else.

A song that should come at a crucial juncture of the film, it is a painful number about a man who has lost his love and it has now become unbearable for him to live without her.

And by the way, around the middle of the song, for some reasons Reshammiya suddenly croons 'Naamumkin' in the same manner as he did for 'Ahista Ahista'.

Interspersed with English lyrics like 'How Can I Live Without You', 'Saathiya' is another good number to follow which again stands at just around 2 minutes.

Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan and coming close to the style of 'Ye Dil Tumpe Aa Gaya' [Aitraaz] with a dash of oriental rhythm, 'Aaj Nahi To Kal' arrives next and again lasts for just about 90 seconds!

Now that's some real teasing as some of the better tracks in the album have been kept for minimal duration when one wouldn't have minded giving them an extended hearing.

'Rukhsat', a track that comes easy on ears, just like others short numbers heard before, it may not have any greatness to it but does well when it comes to pure Bollywood entertainment.

To compensate for all the short numbers heard in quick succession, a 'Melody - remix' is incorporated later in the album that features each of them as they appear one after another.

A good inclusion in the album that can just be played on in a lounge by the DJ in repeat mode!

The album started off on a very good note with the title song making an instant splash.

Thankfully the masterstroke of the album came in the form of 5 short tracks lasting 1-2 minutes i.e. 'Isi Umeed Pe', 'Saathiya', 'Aaj Nahi To Kal', 'Tera Sona Sona Roop' and 'Rukhsat' that took the entire listening experience to a different level.

It must have been hard for Suneel Darshan to resist the temptation of having the kind of melodious music that Nadeem Shravan have given to him in the past but then Reshammiya more than makes up for it by emphasizing on sheer rhythm.

by Tanushree Saha

Just when you feel the man-with-the-cap is done with, he bounces back with a bang! Namastey London is one of the best works of Himesh Reshammiya. And the best part is that Himesh refrains from singing all the songs.

Javed Akhtar's lyrics are in good form. But this self love of Mehfil versions where he recites poetry is an act of self indulgence.

Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah who along with Akshay has delivered two back to back successful films Namastey London' has an unlikely combination of lyricists Javed Akhtar and composer/singer Himesh Reshammiya.

Chakna Chakna is a typical Punjabi number that is all set to go down well with the expatriate market.

For its high-bass rhythm designing and the keyboard melodies are tailor made to do a Namastey to London-n-NewYork.

A girl going 'crazy for you baby' soothes Himesh Reshammiya's emotion packed vocals.

Chakna Chakna Remix shall be blaring from all the loudspeakers, be it the autorickshaws, taxis, discos, pubs, marriage parties, birthdays, whatever.

There is an about turn soon after with 'Viraaniya' coming in next.

Javed Akhtar saab keeps it simple when it comes to penning this sad track that has Reshammiya scoring good marks for both his composition and rendition.

The number moves slowly with the arrangements resembling a lounge outing and appropriate pauses coming at the right places.

Is it really a Himesh Reshammiya song for an Akshay Kumar film that you are hearing? That's the instant thought that comes to mind as soon as you are 30 seconds into 'Main Jahaan Rahoon'.

First and foremost the presence of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan itself makes one sit up and take notice of the song. Secondly the music is so fine paced and rendition by Khan.

What one actually looks forward to is the 'Mehfil Mix' since none would want an opportunity to be missed out when Javed saab recites his poetry.

Yahi Hota Pyaar Mehfil Mix is a waste of a number. Read what I've written about the Main Jahaan Rahoon.

It is a step backwards as you find Himesh Reshammiya crooning in a style that's been done to death by himself.

Sunidhi Chauhan doesn't have much to do as her voice gets hidden in the sarangi drone and tabla's thaap.

There's a smart piece in the middle where the santoor progression is matched by the horse like galloping of tabla beats from slow motion to a slightly more feverish pace.

Rafta Rafta starts off with Arabic intonations and then it meanders into an interesting fast paced number.

A song like Rafta Rafta deserved a remix and RDB do a fantastic job of making a Mix that will go down well with the DJs galore and the party going people.

Also, the arrangements are kept under check which are let out in full steam in conjunction with a faster pace only in the 'remix' version that comes later.

A 'ghazal' with Reshammiya crooning in a low pitch and Sunidhi Chauhan joining him, 'Yehi Hota Pyaar' is so beautifully arranged and presented that the only thing you want to do next is search for that 'Repeat' button the music system remote!

For those looking for their share of masala tracks, 'Chakna Chakna' or an item number from some other album may be a better option but for those who want their music to have a certain 'thehraav', 'Yehi Hota Pyaar' is the song to play.

Yet again, the 'remix' and the 'Mehfil mix' versions entertain as the former picks up the pace while the latter brings it further down to create different moods for the situations as appropriate.

Strength of 'Namastey London' clearly lies in the songs that follow melody more than the dance routines.

Each of the three tracks belongs to the kind that can be played on repeatedly.

In addition, the 'Mehfil Mix' of songs featuring Javed Akhtar saab's poetry and recitation is a clear cut recipe that only adds class to the proceedings.

Hi everyone... I have been pretty inactive here, sorry about that! But that in no way means that I'm no longer a fan of HR! 😳

For the past month, Namastey London and Red had been playing in my car and since I've bought Shaka Laka Boom Boom, I can't get that out either... the music is just fantastic! My personal favorite is Namumkin! 😳 "Kyun gire aankhon se aansoon, koi bhi na jaan paaye... !"

Hope you ALL are doin' well!

@ Jem: I know you're inactive but read your review and am so glad that you finally got to meet him!

@ Ash: Good luck for your exams!

@ Everyone else: Hi!
