Audio Review : For music freaks of all genres 👏👏

Director: Vipul Amrutlal Shah
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor
Music Director: Himesh Reshammiya
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

Director Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Akshay Kumar after the successful spree of films like 'Aankhen' and 'Waqt' come together for this new offing titled 'Namastey London'. Akshay Kumar who is enjoying a strong phase at the box office returns back with this film along with Katrina Kaif who plays his NRI wife in the film. Along with the different storyline the music is also a high point of the film bringing together two accomplished personalities from the world of music lyricists Javed Akhtar and composer/singer Himesh Reshammiya. Not only you've Himesh behind the mike but Javed Saab also makes his voice heard. The album comprises 7 original songs with 11 remixes of the tracks. All this and more hear in the music of the film. But before that read on.

The Sufi styled track based on Bhangra with elements of pop 'Chakna Chakna' arrives at the beginning making you click with the nightclub number from the very first instance. After long Reshammiya voice is heard as he sets forth to croon. Apt for the domain he does a fine job. There is a remix version arriving for the same track that just doubles the fun. This is more Bhangra and will surely be treat for music lovers in India and abroad.

Next on the line is 'Viraaniya' a sad track arriving after the fun filled first one. Reshammiya once again at the helm for composing and singing the song brilliantly. Also full marks for the simple but effective lyrics of Javed Akhtar. Though it comes as a sad track, it is enjoyable and you would prefer listening to it again and again. There are two remix version of the track called 'remix' and 'Mehfil Mix' versions. The remix version is also likeable with more pace and added pep of musical arrangement. For the 'Mehfil Mix' you can hear Javed Akhtar reciting a few lines of his poetry as a prelude. Remarkable!

'Main Jahaan Rahoon', the third song of the enterprise is another good take, maintaining the good work that the two songs have done formerly. Music for the track is superb and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's rendition just makes things better for it. You'll get hooked to this simply melodious love song that'll delight you all the way. A mandatory remix of the song also follows. Not much thrill has been tried for the remix and that's the best part about it. The 'Mehfil Mix' with the recitation by Javed Saab and light music only makes things better.

Reshammiya continues impressing in similar manner with 'Yehi Hota Pyaar'. With quality a predominant factor of the album so far, this ghazal song has Reshammiya in a never heard before stance, he goes low pitch for the track as he couples up with Sunidhi Chauhan. The song is so lovely that you feel like listening to it again and again. The remix version is more entertaining with added pace and so is the 'Mehfil mix' that adds a different dimension to this song overall.

On the similar lines of 'Chakna Chakna' is the next song 'Rafta Rafta' brought to you by R.D.B a popular UK-Bhangra band. The message of the song is loud and clear- head for the dance floor man and let your hair down! Add on the pace for this medium paced track with the remix version.

Reshammiya's regular Jayesh Gandhi arrives with the next song 'Annan Faanan'. He along with Akriti Kakkar another Reshammiya favourite get together for this romantic number. The rock ballad feel of the track clicks and the song maintains the feel good factor of the soundtrack. The other two versions 'Remix' and 'Mehfil Mix' are no less enjoyable.

'Dilrooba' is a trademark Himesh song rendered by Zubeen Garg and Alisha Chinai. After the gleaming gems so far, this song match up to them but it doesn't mean it lacks spark. It's an enjoyable number overall and the remix version also confirms that.

Himesh has subdued himself when it comes to the music of the album in the sense that he has concentrated more on melody-based numbers in comparison to the routine dance numbers that he has more popular for. Although 'Chakna Chakna', 'Rafta Rafta' and 'Dilrooba' will be a treat for his hardcore fans, 'Viraaniya', 'Main Jahaan Rahoon' and 'Yehi Hota Pyaar' will settles for music freaks of all genres. The 'Mehfil Mix' is a new entrant in the field of music and it should also fetch positive response.

My 'cut' is final

Incorporating guerrilla technique of shooting in a potboiler, director Prashant Chadha speaks of the finer nuances in Aap Kaa Surroor

NIMISHA TIWARI

The recording of the much-in-news tracks of Himesh Reshammiya's debut flick Aap Kaa Surroor is now complete and the shooting schedule is about to kickstart. So the pressure on director Prashant Chadha has only heightened. "Himesh has outdone himself in these songs," he begins. "Sameerji has written fantastic lyrics and now I need to do justice by shooting these songs perfectly." Revealing the entry scene of Himesh in this romantic thriller, Prashant elaborates that it will be the shot of a huge concert. A crowd of 5000 people will be present and over 100 western and Indian dancers will perform in sync with each other. "It's freezing in Germany now, so the 'gloom' effect is inherently all around. This way the suroor is kept alive in the scenes," he claims. So what's with the thriller bit? Prashant's eyes narrow as he narrates, "Right from the first scene, the audience will be at the edge of the seat. One can't guess the next shot. It's gonna be nail-biting all along." An upbeat Himesh Reshammiya who also is Prashant's childhood pal, is totally prepared to deliver that much needed punch in the film. He says, "I may sound pompous, but with God's blessings I have no fear in saying that this movie will indeed have the biggest opening ever." Since the scenes require a natural touch, I've almost done away with the tripod. With the guerrilla technique, a realistic touch will seep in and that will be the highlight of the scenes. "I know I am breaking age old conventions, but am sticking to my beliefs." On a parting note, Prashant adds, "The cast has immense confidence in me. And no matter what, my 'cut' will be final." To that, all the very best, we say.

Himesh chala Berlinale

Just before zooming off to The Berlin International Film Festival, in an exclusive with BT, singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya shares his excitement as his film Aap Kaa Surroor gains international recognition

NIMISHA TIWARI Times News Network

Acknowledged as an official film fest by the International Federation of Film Producers (FIAPF), this month is the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival or Berlinale as it is called. Each year, as the jury places special emphasis on representing films from across the world, this time around the forthcoming flick Aap Kaa Surroor has bagged its mention there.
Affirming this news, debutant actor Himesh Reshammiya says, "Am very excited that a mainstream commercial Bollywood entertainer like this is going to the Berlin International Film Festival." With expectations mounting to dizzy heights, is it unnerving him? "Yes, this does make me aware that I need to present my best to satisfy the expectations of the film fraternity."
As the movie is soon to start its shooting schedule in Germany, which is currently experiencing sub-zero temperature, does that dampen the spirit in some way, we ask. "It's challenging enough. The winter chill is the requirement of the film, but then work is worship to me."
Prashant Chadha, director of the film, who has flown to Germany, is gung-ho that the film has made it to Berlinale. "The luncheon is on February 13 where the film commission will be formally announcing the movie. And I've got butterflies in my stomach already."

Why 'Main Jahan Rahoon' is Himesh at his best?
<>document.write('Faridoon Shahryar, ') Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Monday, February 05, 2007]

Himesh Reshammiya is one entertainer who evokes extreme reactions from different people. Since the last one and a half years he has emerged as one of the biggest names in Bollywood. His singing created a furore. So did his oh-so-prolific composing. Then there was a point when he sounded repetitive. Even his obsession with his own voice started getting on nerves (Red, Dil Diya Hai, Rocky are a few examples). And when you felt you can't survive another film album from the man-with-the-cap, he comes up with 'Namastey London', one of his best works as a composer.

Although, people will feast on 'Chakna Chakna', 'Rafta Rafta', 'Dilruba' and 'Aanan Faanan', I think the best song is 'Main Jahan Rahoon'. Magnificently sung by Rahat Fath Ali Khan and ably supported by Krishna, this sufi song boasts of a good mix of classical effectiveness as well as wonderful strings arrangements in the background. Javed Akhtar's lyrics are an asset for taking the song on a different level. Thankfully Himesh didn't sing this number. For, although his voice is good but an overexposure of anything leads to a lack of novelty value.

Here's hoping Himesh will extract good work from quality singers and use his own voice selectively.
