No Himesh this dandiya?
By: Nishant A Bhuse
September 18, 2006

This Navratri you may not be able to dance to the tunes of Himesh Reshammiya, if leading dandiya organisers don't cough up the public performance licence fee to T-Series.

T-Series owns most of the singer's tracks apart from other hit music albums of Bollywood.

A majority of Reshammiya's 200 tracks fall under the copyright act of T-Series Public Performance Licence (TPPL), who also have the copyrights of more than 35,000 hit tracks (Hindi and devotional music and remix albums).

"If they play traditional raas garba tracks we have no objection but the moment they switch to disco dandiya and Himesh or any other songs owned by T-Series, the organisers must pay a licence fee of Rs 10,000 per day or face the consequences," said M M Satish, president of TPPL. "We have short-listed and are approaching organisers of prime dandiya events. If they do not pay the licence fee and play our tracks we shall conduct raids," added Satish.

Himesh says

Reshammiya said, "If any organiser is using the tracks of T-Series without the licence, it is up to TPPL to decide their fate. I am not performing at any dandiya event but will be visiting various venues as a guest."

He added, "I have personally made it mandatory for my organisers to obtain TPP licence for all my shows in the country or abroad and they have no issues about it."

PENALTY

If the organiser does not obtain a licence under Section 33(3) and plays or performs the songs, which fall under the Copyright Act, then the organiser must pay a fine/charge between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh or face imprisonment of six months to two years along with the seizure of sound equipment.

Why is Himesh refusing films these days?

NICOLE DASTUR Times News Network

Singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya, who has consistently being delivering hit after hit, is now on a break. He has been refusing many films for playback singing, making film makers wonder why he's cutting down on work drastically. Ask Himesh about it and he says, "I've refused 15-16 films that have been offered to me. I'm only going to be concentrating on three films in the coming year."
For those who are wondering why he's decided to take it easy at the peak of his career, there's news. There's something up the composer's sleeve, and according to sources, it's a big project. "I'm not permitted to reveal too much at this stage, but I'm venturing into a couple of new projects. They're related to the entertainment industry. It could be with music, films or maybe even something else," says Himesh. The announcement of the same will be on October 29 at the Wembley stadium in London, where over 18,000 people will be present. But won't the fact that he's cutting down on work affect his Bollywood career? "No. In fact, it'll enhance my career. What I'm going to do is related to music and Bollywood, it's not that I'm going into carpentry or software!" laughs Himesh, continuing, "I've decided to work only in big films. Gone are the days when I used to do movies in bulk. Now, I'm looking at exclusivity in my work. Job satisfaction is my priority now," says Himesh. But does he fear his popularity reducing? "Anyone can take over, that won't affect me or my work. I've achieved what I wanted to, now I only want to do the best."
