4th KRANTIKARI OF THE WEEK:Dewy - Page 12

The chaos was great. The toddler was crying, people were shuffling their feet, but trying to maintain their ground. Wendy looked at Dew, she had a closed look on her face, yet her jaw was tense.

She went to the toddler and plucked her out of her MIL's hands. She tried to sooth and pacify the baby, and whispered something to her MIL.

Wendy saw Dew's MIL approaching her, with a wobbly smile on her face. "Please do come in dear. We have heard a lot about you." Wendy continued to stare.

"Do come on in Wendy, everyday is impatient to meet you," rejoined Dew. Wendy looked at her suspiciously, but could not make out any malice in her eyes.

She shuffled forward, curiously peeking at everyone, at everyone was trying just as hard not to stare at her. The toddler continued to whimper.

The party made their way inside.

"Mama, I have to be there at a meeting in 20 mins, so we would not be waiting long, but I brought Wendy over because she came here all the way to meet me. So we would be carrying along soon."

Dew's family brought in refreshments, Green Tea, and scones, muffins and a fresh apple pie. Wendy bolted up, "What's this Dew? I do not eat all this crap." Don't you know I have an abhorrence for these things? Please get them removed from my sight. "

Dew's MIL was totally taken aback. Some strong words of protest could be heard coming from the background, where two other family members were standing. They looked really angry and upset.

"No problem Wendy, is there something you would wish to have? I would try and get it for you," said Dew.

"No, I carry my own refreshment, it should suffice.." saying this, Wendy procured a transparent flask from her pocket. It was filled with a green slimy liquid, and something akin to snails was floating in it. She opened the lid and took a gulp.

A retching noise could be heard in the background, and a muffled "excuse me" followed by a scurrying noise. Someone had just bolted out of the room.

"I think I am done Dew." I would be ready when you are. Dew slowly stood up, and walked over to her MIL and whispered something to her MIL. There was a nod of agreement, and her MIL excused herself for a moment. She came back in a while, carrying a small silver gift in her hand.

"Since this is your first visit to our house, please accept a small token from us. Do visit us soon. We could not really catch up, owing to paucity of time, but we would love to see more of you. "

"Whats this gift? Pardon my asking, but I usually am suspicious about accepting gifts." Said Wendy. "Oh, this, its nothing. Just a small token, you can see it if you want." Said the MIL. Wendy opened the gift and saw a small silver coin. "Sure, thanks."

"Mama, I think we should go now. I m getting late." Wendy and Dew took leave from her, Wendy saw everybody else had vanished. She smirked.

"Wendy, there is an important meeting I have to attend. I would like you to accompany me, if you don't mind. Once we wrap that up, we can take the rest of the day off, and catch up." Said Dew.

"You want me to accompany you to the meeting?" Wendy was incredulous. "Actually Wendy, I do not have a choice, I cannot absent myself from the meeting, and I do not want to let go this opportunity to meet you." Dew was smiling.
