Chapter Six

Mayank: "Where were u, i have been looking all over the place..." he broke off as he turned to see sheena standing there looking great as usual. "Sheena, your back."

Sheena: "Oh baby!! I missed you so much!!!" She said as she threw her arms around mayank.

Mayank: "What are u doing?" he said trying to pull back.

Sheena: "why, showing how much i missed you course...didnt u miss me?" she said pouting a little and talking loudly. Mayank could sense people around them pretending not to listen but were clearing involved in the exchange.

Mayank: "let's go some place a little more quieter." He said softly managing to break free

Sheena: "I know you can't wait to get me alone baby, but this is just fine..tell me how much u missed me." She said wrapping her arm around his hand and looking up at him.

Mayank: "I really don't think this is the place.."

Sheena: "Stop being so secretive, it's not like everybody doesn't know we are dating." Mayank was getting a bit irritated by now.

Mayank: "Everybody does know that we WERE dating and everybody also knows that we BROKEUP." He said still keeping his voice down...he knew he would have to have this conversation with sheena again but he certainly didn't want to do it here in public. That is exactly why sheena had chosen to talk to him in public, she knew mayank would never dump a girl in public and she knew he still cared for her..if she could make all these people believe that they were still dating she could get mayank back.

Sheena: "Baby what on earth are you talking about? We never broke up..we just had a silly fight...are you still mad at me? Im sorry...come let's forget about all this and makeup." Trying to pull him in for another hug.

Mayank: "Enough ok...look i don't want to do this here but if ur going to behave like this then i don't have a choice...sheena we broke up...that wasn't a fight...that was a break up! I thought we had made that clear. There isn't an us anymore. I am already seeing someone else. Its over between us." He said calmly but firmly keeping his voice low.

Sheena: "Look mayank i know you were upset with me and we did go on a break...but im back and we can work it out...and as for you seeing someone i can manage to look past that silly mistake of yours.. I understand that you needed to blow some steam off..so you dated some bimbo...big deal...let's just put all that behind us and have a fresh start."

Mayank: "First of all nupur isn't a bimbo and im not blowing off any steam...she is my girlfriend..second of all we are never getting back together..ever...we. are. over. But i agree about one thing, let's have a fresh start and put everything behind us. I really do wish you the best of luck sheena, bye." He said turning away from her and all the people who weren't even pretending not to listen anymore. But sheena caught his hand and made him look at her.

Mayank: "What the hell are u'll staring at?" Mayank yelled at the people around him who quickly dispersed. He walked upto the bar and ordered for a shot.

"That should teach you to fight with girls in public." Nupur said walking upto mayank.

Mayank: "right." He said downing the shot. "was it that bad?" clearly worried about what people thought. Nupur was surprised by that. He didnt look like the sort to seek approval of anyone.

Nupur: "No i have seen more drama...but that is not going to solve your problems?" Pointing at his shot glass.

Mayank: "temporarily it does...im sorry nupur." Now she was really surprised.

Nupur: "Sorry?"

Mayank: "For the way i spoke to you earlier it was uncalled for. U were right...u need to know what is going on, especially if i have to make you deal with sheena." He was so sincere that nupur couldn't help but smile.

Nupur: "hey it's ok.. i forgot about that the minute i had a charming conversation with ur ex."

Mayank: "You'll met? Already? When?"

Nupur: "In the rest room before your exchange...i guess i have to apologise to you too...i think i got her fired up a little bit...and btw you don't need to tell me why u'll broke up...you should tell me why you went out with her in the first place." Mayank started laughing.

Mayank: "you want to get out of here?"

Nupur: "i think so..i consider myself initiated to the college."

Mayank: "great...let's go find benji and dia and tell them we are leaving." But they found them first.

Benji: "Hey bro...Heard what happened...you ok?" he turned to look at nupur "And u madam i heard you had quite an encounter urself." Nupur started laughing.

Nupur: "Dia is exaggerating as usual."

Dia: "I am not...im telling you mayank...it was awesome...you should have seen her...any other girl would have burst into tears but not our nupur."

Mayank: "I know she can hold her own. Im not so sure about myself."

Benji: "yeah well you got yourself into this mess, get urself out."

Mayank: "Im not worried, nupur is there to protect me." He said winking at nupur. "Ok guys we are going to take off, i have had enough drama to last me a lifetime...we'll just catch a cab back."

Benji: "Are you sure? Or just take the car and send the driver back for us...we will be here for a while still."

Mayank: "Na..its fine...i will see u later. Bye dude, bye dee." He said hugging dia.

Nupur: "where are we going." She asked as they passed the road which led upto her house.

Mayank: "I thought we could grab a coffee or something before we go home so that we could talk. Is that ok? Or are you tired."

Nupur: "Nope thats fine."

Mayank: "Cool. Bhaiya yaha se right lene na...bus yahi side per rok dijiye."

They walked to a charming little cafe...this is one of the things she loved about Bangalore...it had these charming little hole in the wall cafes all over the place.

Nupur: "This is nice."

Mayank: "I hope you like cheesecake...this place makes the best cheesecake in town."

Nupur: "OOO...i love cheesecake."

Nupur: "This is good.." she said 5 mins later after she had taken the first bite of her cheesecake. "So are you going to bite my head off again if i ask you to tell me about yourself?"

Mayank: "I knew you weren't going to forgive me that easily."

Nupur: "Of course not...i just thought it would be fare to give you a break at the time."

Mayank: "Thanks." He said sarcastically, his dimple twinkling "What do you want to know?"

Nupur: "Anything you want to tell me."

Mayank: "Ok..well my mom got re-married a couple of years back to Rahul Modi."

Nupur: "Shut up! The Rahul modi is ur dad? Sorry continue" she added when mayank turned a single eyebrow up.

Mayank: "step dad...and yes. Well she married him when i was just getting into my 1st year of college. I wanted to join a design school...cos well i liked photography...but Rahul really wanted me to go into finance..."

Nupur: "He wanted you to join his business after you finished studying?"

Maynk: "Oh no...that is definitely not the case...he doesn't want me to join him...he already has a son to look after his empire...its more of a way to make sure he doesn't have to look after me. Well photography isn't as lucrative a career as finance and he doesn't want to support me if my career blows up in my face."

Nupur: "He actually said that?"

Mayank: "Not in so many words...but he has made it pretty clear that he only supports me as far as my education is concerned...which is fine by me. .." mayank started laughing at nupur's appalled expression. "Its not that bad. He really loves my mom and mom loves him..He doesn't see me as his responsibility, which is fine, cos it means my freedom. And he is right there isn't a place in his company for me...i would hate it there..hes kind of doing me a favour. But it does make things difficult. He has mom convinced about the finance thing..so i have compromised, im going to do my mba...and on the side study photography by on the job training. In fact the day we had that accident was the day i had scored an interview with Jogi Bhatt, he's this major photographer."

Nupur: "I have heard of him...he is awesome..wow thats great mayank how did it go?"

Mayank: "It didnt go...i got late and he caught his flight before i could make it."

Nupur: "Im sorry...i.."

Mayank: "Its ok..i was just as much to blame...water under the bridge...it wasn't meant to be at the time..." Nupur still felt bad that she had in some way hurt his chance at getting in touch with his mentor. "So isn't this enough for a day? Or do you need to grill me more."

Nupur: "This is enough for today...but it def isn't over i am dying to know how u landed up with sheena and stayed with her for 2 whole years!!!" mayank started laughing.

Mayank: "I know ur 1^st impression of her kind of sucks and though most of it might be head on...but in my defence she is actually not all bad. She's just used to getting her way. We actually didn't meet in college...i mean i knew who she was but we actually met at one of my step dad's business dos. She came with her dad and we were introduced by the parents. Believe it or not we hit it off. We started dating and after some time it became evident that she wanted me to change into someone who would fit in her world and i couldn't do that even though i tried..and i guess she has taken it hard that she didnt succeed in changing me. All in all she was a good friend to me even thought she couldn't quite cut it being a girlfriend. U know both of u'll maybe more similar than u think." He said with a teasing expression on his face.

Nupur: "I might test ur patience at times but theres no need to insult me Sharma." His dimple deepened and nupur found herself smilling back.

Mayank: "U know bhushan, ur all right. Come on brat ill drop u home. Its getting late." He said pulling her too her feet .

Neither of them was aware of being watched as they got into a cab. The person picked up the phone and dialled a number never dialled before from that phone.
