Thank you so much for your wishes for my presentation. It went well.
Note to everyone:
First of all, thank you all so much for the support you've given me so far. Secondly I'm really sorry for not being able to update during the weekend. This was a long weekend for us and it was my bro's birthday. So I was kept busy with the celebration and didn't get much time to write the part.
Part 8 ' I had wanted to write this part for the Sajda anniversary/V-day but due to school work I wasn't able to. I'm sorry if this part wasn't good, I just kind of wanted to show them trying to live with the past and moving to a brighter future.
Part 8
It was about 1 am in the night but sleep was miles away from Mayank. He was sitting on their bed with his laptop, while Nupur slept right next to him, hugging the heart-shaped pillow tightly. She had her back facing him as the night lamp on his side of the bed was still lit. Though he had planned to make some notes for his review seminar, his mind was preoccupied with the events that took place in evening. He had not expected Nupur to come across the diary, his only companion in those three years and the soul witness to the pain he had endured during that time. When Nupur returned, he had decided that he would put the sorrowful past behind them and live life like those three years never existed. He feared that talking about those three years might bring back that sorrow, that pain, the guilt, the lost feeling into their life and it was better to erase those three years from their life. But today he realized that no matter how much he tried, he can't block out those memories forever. It was a part of their past, a part of them and they can't runaway from it.
Mayank looked at her lying next to him, deep in slumber. He suddenly felt the urge to hold her close and feel her presence. Placing his laptop on the night table, he slipped into the covers and hugged Nupur as tight as he can, not realizing that he was squeezing her. Due to pregnancy and the excess fatigue, Nupur was asleep, unaware of the turmoil of emotions her husband was going through. But she felt the pair of arms embracing her. It was tight and was hurting her a bit but there was warmth in that hold. Still in sleep, she turned and hugged him back with the same intensity. Mayank felt a positive vibe going through him at her touch. It was enough to make him comprehend that the past was past and Nupur was back in his life now. And with Nupur by his side, he can get through anything and together they can make memories that they could cherish for the rest of their life. Finally, he went to sleep holding her tight.

Nupur was the first one to wake up the next day. She was surprised by how tightly Mayank was holding her. Without disturbing him, she relieved herself from his hold. She sat up on the bed, and looked at her sleeping husband. Yesterday's events flashed across her mind and she knew that though he puts on a brave face, he is very vulnerable when it comes to the loss of his loved ones. She had seen the same vulnerability on his face when he had spoken about his father. She felt guilty that she was somewhat responsible for his pain but she can't do anything to reverse the past. However, she promised to herself that he would always be her first child and she would never let anything separate them again. With a kiss on his forehead, she set off to freshen up and then get started on the breakfast. She was soon joined by Mayank in the kitchen and they had their breakfast talking about the plans for the day. Just as they set off to do the dishes, Mayank's cell rang. He gestured to Nupur and went into the next room to talk. As soon as he was done on the phone, he told Nupur that there was some urgent work and left the house after a quick hug.

About two hours later'
When Mayank came home, he saw Nupur in the kitchen with a confused expression on her face. He walked up to her and asked, "What's wrong Nupur? You look like you've just met Shakespeare's ghost."
She gave him an annoyed look and then pouted before saying, "Mayank, I can't decide what to make for lunch'Tell me na"
He smiled and said, "I have a better idea' how about we go out for lunch?"
"Really? But'there is so much to do around the house, packing, cleaning, etc"
"Let's take a break today'afterall it's Sunday"
"Haan.."
"Ok, decided then. We'll go our for lunch."
"I'll go get ready," Nupur said as she moved towards the stairs, but was soon stopped by Mayank's hand on her wrist."Ab kya hua Mayank?"
"Ek minute'"
"Mayank, I want to go out for lunch, not dinner"
"ok, Ms.Morena express. I just need a moment of your time'give me one minute," he said as he walked to the dining table. Mayank came back with a little parcel. He gave it to Nupur, who opened it to reveal a white simple saree with matching accessories. She raised her eyebrows only to get a silent grin from Mayank. "You like it?"
"Haan but why did u give me this today? I mean it's not my birthday nor our marriage anniversary. Don't tell me I forgot some other anniversary'"
Mayank just stood still for a moment with a blank face.
"Batao na Mayank, did I forget something?" she asked, with a little frown. Mayank smiled at her expression and how fast it changes.
"Relax Nupur. U didn't forget anything.." he said placing his hands on her shoulders.
"So what's the reason behind this?" She said looking at the saree in her hands.
He looked straight at her, "Why, is there any rule that says a man can't get a saree for his wife without a reason?"
"No'but.."
"Nupur, if you don't stop your interrogation and get ready, then I'm sure we won't get there on time for lunch. I don't know about you but I'm hungry. Go, get ready and jaldi aao," he said turning her towards the stairs.
"Okay'I'm going" With that Nupur went to get ready. Mayank changed in the washroom downstairs and then called out to Nupur,
"Nupur, jaldi aao"
"2 minutes Mayank'" Few seconds later, he called again.
"Nupur!"
"2 minutes Mayank" Knowing that he would keep calling her, she said "You do one thing. Wait in the car, I'll lock the door and come"
"Ok, fine. Jaldi aao na"
"Haan haan."
Few minutes later, Mayank checked his watch again and was about to go back inside to get Nupur, when he saw her coming out of the house. With the white saree draped around her, she looked no less than an angel. The glow from the pregnancy had just intensified her beauty. The light breeze was making her open hair flow. She was truly a heavenly sight for anyone. Nupur felt his gaze and became conscious. Yes, she was used to his gazes by now but it still made her blush and become conscious of herself.
"Mayank, let's go" she said, not looking up at him. She just couldn't take the intensity of his eyes when he was full of passion. He came out of the trance, sat in the car and started it.
"Mayank, which restaurant are we going to?" Nupur asked after a few minutes.
"Restaurant nahi'we are going somewhere else"
"Kya? But u said we are going to go out to eat," Nupur said a bit annoyed. She was really hungry and wasn't happy with the change of plans.
"Haan..and we are going to eat but not at any restaurant"
"So where are we going?"
"Surprise'.," he said with a smile. Nupur kept bothering him about their destination and by the time they reached it, Mayank was really exhausted from avoiding her questions.
"Chup'kitna boltiye tum? If you stop with your questions, you can see for yourself as to where". It was only when Mayank had told her, she realized that they had stopped. They were at Samrat's house.
"Samrat's house?" she scrunched her nose and looked at him in confusion. "Mayank, what are we doing here? Gunjan and Samrat aren't even home, remember they are going to Chinki's place today and are only coming back tomorrow?"
"Mrs. Sharma, I know that Samrat and Gunjan are not home and I didn't bring you to see them. Just come with me for a minute." Nupur opened her mouth to speak but then kept quiet. Mayank scooped her up in his arms and walked. A minute later, they stood at the entrance to Samrat's outhouse, their first real home. They had lived in the Excel college for a few days but the outhouse was the first place that truly belonged to them, a place where they were not scared of anyone seeing them, a place that had witnessed their happy moments as well as the not-so-happy moments. They both stood there remembering the moments spent in the house, and together they stepped into the house. Nupur looked around to notice that not much has changed in the three years. The photos were in the same place, the furniture was in the same place and even the toys, Mayank had bought when he told her he wanted to be a father, were there. Every corner of that house reminded her of the beautiful moments spent there. She was caressing the teddy bear, when she felt Mayank's hands embracing her from behind.
"So how do you like the surprise?" he asked as he placed his chin on her shoulders. She smiled and turned around in his hold, before answering "I love it. Thank you." She said as she kissed his cheek. "But Mayank, everything is the same as we left it'"
"Haan, Samrat just left it as it was and after Dia's visit in July, I was really disoriented about everything and came here. Being here made me feel like you were with me and it gave me hope. Since then, I used to come here frequently and had cleaned it with Kaka's help," She hugged him tight and placed her head on his chest. Mayank hugged her back but loosened his hold after a minute. He took the teddy bear from her hands and looking at it said, "Finally all our dreams are coming true na?"
Nupur smiled and nodded her head. The blissful moment was disrupted by the growl of Nupur's stomach. They smiled at each other.
"Oh, my baby is hungry, na?..Chalo, let's go and eat," he said as he lead her to the table, which had simple decorations. They had their lunch, talking about the happiest moments they spent with each other and with their friends in that very same house. After their lunch, Mayank took Nupur to their old bedroom. Like the rest of the house, everything looked the same as it was three years ago. Nupur was about to move towards the photo on the wall when Mayank held her hand. She looked up at him with questioning eyes.
"I actually wanted to share something with you and that's why I brought you here," there was a pause. Mayank retrieved an envelope from his pocket and held it out to her. She looked at him a bit surprised but took the envelope.
"Ye..kya hai?"
"Open it and see," as soon as Mayank finished saying those words, she opened the envelope in a hurry. Mayank saw her reading the letter and her expression changed from confusion to excitement.
"Mayank, this is your appointment order from Pune university!" she said as she hugged him.
"Haan. They just faxed it to me this morning and I thought this would be the perfect place to tell you," Seeing Nupur's expression, he knew she was confused about the last part of his statement. "Mrs.Sharma, this was the exact place where I had given you my first salary on Valentine's Day after our marriage."
The mention of the Valentines' Day turned Nupur's cheeks into a rose colour. She remembered the numerous times when she had tried stupid antics to seduce Mayank. On Valentines' Day, she had given up her aim and had accepted that whatever may happen or not, Mayank was hers. To her surprise, Mayank used all kinds of excuses to stay close to his wife that day but Nupur seemed to ignore him. When Mayank had finally expressed his wish to make her his wife in all the ways, she had gone through a new surge of emotions. The happiness she felt was overshadowed by her nervousness and shyness. He had then given her his first salary in the bedroom and then the events that followed was a moment of pure love. Nupur's cheeks became redder, if that was possible. Mayank noticed the blush. He lifted her chin and said, "Looks like someone remembers what happened after?"
"Mayank'" she whined as she moved away from him but he pulled her back into his arms.
"You remember you had worn a similar white saree that night?" Mayank asked after a few minutes. She just nodded. Due to a slight breeze through the window, a couple of strands of hair fell on her face. She tried to blow it away from her face but it was of no use. Mayank, seeing her failed attempts, tucked the loose strands behind her ears and kissed her ears. Lost in the fragrance of her hair, he lightly nibbled on her earlobes making her moan his name. Nupur shivered under his touch. He managed to remove her necklace and kissed her neck. He moved onto her earrings and took them off placing a kiss on her ear. He continued to kiss her on her ears, cheeks, shoulders and neck and Nupur responded with equal passion. For awhile, they were in their own world, where love took precedence over everything else. When Nupur felt her back touch the wall, she came out of the moment. Pushing him away lightly, she said
"Mayank, chodo mujhe. This is not our bedroom" Mayank realized where they were and moved away a little but still held her in his arms.
"So?"
"Mayank..."
"So u mean that you don't have a problem if this was happening in our bedroom, right?" he asked with a hint of naughtiness in his eyes.
"No, I never said that'" she said shaking her head.
"So you mean you have a problem?"
"No! When did I say .." she bit her lip when she realized what had come out of her mouth. Mayank just gave her a naughty knowing smile and she lowered her gaze.
"Chalo let's go home and continue this," Mayank said as he escorted her out to the living room.
***************
Next morning'.
When Mayank came back from his morning jog around their block, he saw Nupur bent over the sink throwing up. He immediately rushed to her side and held her. When she was done, he helped her wash up and took her back to the bed.
"Better now'?"
She shook her head and said, "Still feeling nauseous"
"Stay right here," he rushed downstairs and a few minutes later came back with freshly cut lemons. She took the lemons from him and sniffed it, while he sat beside her patting her back. When she felt a little better, she stopped sniffing and she placed her head on his shoulder.
"How do you feel now?"
"Better" He tried to get up from the bed but she was holding him tight. He knew that she was not feeling well, because that's when she was clingy. He separated himself for a moment and came back with dry crackers. "Here, have this."
"Mayank, I don't feel like eating. Besides I don't want to eat crackers. They are so plain and yucky."
"Nupur, please listen to me. I know u don't feel like eating but if u don't eat, then you are going to feel nauseous the whole day. Besides, you shouldn't go hungry for long."
"Mayank, crackers are so disgusting and doesn't have any taste. Please. I won't have it," she said hugging his arm tighter. Though he knew it was normal for women to have morning sickness during their first trimester, his heart ached to see her like that. She hadn't eaten anything since morning and he knew she had class until 1pm that day.
"Nupur'"
"Nahi Mayank. I won't have it, please"
Mayank didn't know what to do for a few minutes, and then he remembered something from the book he read and tried to go down. Nupur was still holding his arm. "Nupur, just give me two minutes, please". She let go of him with a pout. He soon came back and Nupur was still on the bed, now resting her back against her headboard.
"Ok, have this," he said holding out a cracker in front of her.
"No, I don't want to eat crackers."
"It's not just crackers, this is peanut butter cracker sandwiches"
"Kya?"
"Haan. Dekha," he opened the cracker sandwich to reveal the thin layer of peanut butter on it.
"Peanut butter?"
"Haan," Mayank knew that Nupur would never say no to peanut butter and it was also a good food to ease morning sickness. Nupur grabbed the cracker sandwiches from him and started eating. He sat there watching her gobble down the food. He felt happy that he was able to make her eat and he prayed for things to go well.
