Aanchal here's the background story:
It is related that once Prophet Muhammad ascended the minbar and said: "Amen, amen, amen." Upon the enquiry of the curious audience, he said, "Gabriel came to me and said: 'If Ramadaan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and God will cast him far away. Say 'Amen.' So I said Amen. Next, Gabriel said, 'O Muhammad, if both or one of a person's parents are alive and he does not honour them and he dies, he will enter Hell and God will cast him far away. Say 'Amen.' So I said Amen. Finally, Gabriel said, 'If you are mentioned in a person's presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, he will enter Hell and God will cast him far away. Say 'Amen.' So I said Amen."
The first one is the reason I stopped watching television. Here's the thing: fasting does not mean depriving oneself from food and drink. It means supressing worldly desires in order to elevate spiritually. The worldly attractions, devil and human appetites work as gravity that prevent the soul from elevating to the divine realm. Hence, if one wants to ascend to the heavens spiritually, s/he must break free from these 'gravitational pulls.'
You might say it's just a show after all, and it only takes 30mins of a full 24hrs. The thing is the aftereffect of every episode is long lasting. Say if I'm standing in prayer, my thoughts can easily shift to a scene of Samrat-Gunjan I just watched a while ago. It reminds me of a parable I heard as a child. Once Majnoon (equivalent of Devdas) was walking in the desert looking for Laila (equivalent of Paro) and he walked past a worshipper (It's a sin to do so according to the Islamic tradition). The worshipper grew furious, stopped praying, and slapped Majnoon saying, "Aren't you ashamed of walking past a worshipper?" Majnoon felt guilty and lowered his gaze. But in the next moment, he slapped the worshipper saying," I was looking for Laila and I didn't see you while you stood before your Lord yet you saw me." Meaning, we need to be in a certain state while performing a religious act. I could act all pious and stand for hours in prayer, but what's the point if I'm preoccupied with MJHT?
Now you might say she's a maniac. But what to do Aanchal, I cant help it! It's difficult for me to like something or someone, but once I like it then I'm obsessed with it. Hence, a television show is comparable to food. Say I love cheese cake. Actually, no I love coffee more. Like I told Ishita, I'm a die-hard coffee addict. I can literally see a cup of coffee before my eyes when I yearn for it at a time I can't have it. And that definately takes away my concentration. Kavy-Anjali was the first telly pair and the last one before Samrat-Gunjan that I was totally crazy about. And now it's these two... Kya karoo? But I have thought of a solution: Not to watch any show after MJHT.
Therefore, MJHT is one of my appetites that I need to fast from too.
Ohoo, while typing, I didn't know it's gonna be this long.. Now that's another draw back, I don't talk but when I talk, it's non-stop!
