The reason we have jails, a justice system, courts, laws etc. is so that we can maintain order in our society. So tha people don't go around harming others or causing them pain. When somebody commits a crime they are punished so they can learn what they did was wrong and then better themselves to not commit that crime again and become a better citizen. Has Sanjay dutt not done that? In the last 12 years has he not gotten his life back on track. After coming out of Jail, he could have let his life go and just become a burden to society. But instead he fought back, re-gained his career and did well for himself. He committed the crime, he realized his mistake and in many ways paid for it, as it is not being easy having the word... terrorist with a big question mark hanging over your head, celebrity or not. What is the point of sending him to Jail? Why lock him up, when the law, could use him in a much better and productive way, where everyone benefits, through community service and all that. Going to Jail is not always the Solution!
As for the families of the people who passed away. I sincerely feel for them. But putting Sanjay Dutt in Jail will not bring back their loved ones. However, if Sanjay dutt who has a major fan-following and can have an impact on people was asked to go speak to the youth. Tell them how difficult life is in Jail (since he has experienced it first hand), talk to them about staying away from drugs, about how you can get ur life back on track despite having many set-backs in life, how never to lose hope and keep going to become a better person. Maybe he could save another mis-lead teen or youth from becoming a terrorist, or using drugs, or picking up a weapon on themselves or against another. He could save a life in the way... I am sure that a mother who might have lost her son in the bomb blast would rather see another son saved then Sanjay dutt sitting in Jail.
Very well said. I don't think we even have something called community service in the Indian judiciary system. And in that way it is really bad.
