its not north vs south...in the audition...

where is north eastern region people...no one from assam meghalaya, mizoram nagaland etc...
all the national tv channels avoid north eastern and south
east they go till bengal...south they come to hardly bangalore...but to take contestant from there is very hard...
and in masterchef ...chq the rounds and flavours...they mostly use..rajasthani..gujarathi...lucknowii khana or western or continental...nothing from south or north eastern...
i think the producers like only western and north indian foods that's y they dont get any good contestants from south or north eastern region...or otherwise people from there have to cook western dish...

I think you are really off from the point of discussion. we are talking about ' Hindi' which even though is not the national language but is considered national language by a majority percent. If a Gujarati comes to Punjab, I don't expect Gujarati to speak Punjabi but the language of conversation would be Hindi ( or broken Hindi) if someone doesn't know English. That's why we are discussing about Hindi shows believing that it is one common medium to communicate in India.
If you read carefully, I said when I was vacationing in the South not when I relocated to South.
Just for your clarity the topic of discussion was why do not many auditions happen in the South and why there is less participation of the people from South India. And one reason we think is that Hindi is not a commonly spoken language there and people are more interested in their regional soaps and shows which is not likewise in the North. A person living in Jallandhar or Simla or Panipat would be as interested in a Hindi show as in the regional show or soap.

go to the metros...of south...
bangalore, hyderabad, chennai and cochin...u can see people only speak in english or hindi..and they wach hindi shows and hindi movies...
Roadies till season 6 they dint kept audition bangalore...from season 6 lots of contestants got selected ...twho speaks hindi and english...
shazia last year MC runner up...is a bangalorean...
its not bcse u cant cook...or sing or dance or anything...they take only people who can speak in fluent hindi...not broken hindi or even good english...
national channels promote hindi...

I have given a generic opinion if read carefully without taking any city's name or pointing any language and would not wish to eloborate more or argue. Opinion can be twisted in any which way as per convenience, no further clarifications from my end. Thanks.

I think it's more of a mental bias of the people controlling the entertainment industry.

@ Bold - That's mainly because the south has been distanced from the rest of India deliberately, as someone totally different. This is because the seat of power (Parliament) is in north India. Well that is the reality & can't be changed.

And you're talking about South Indians speaking their own language, I've seen the same with Marathis, Bengalis, Gujaratis.

Bengalis are very tourist welcoming and will speak Hindi if you want them to but throughout all my three trips I have seen people in TN having the least intention to speak in Hindi...Eastern India is a lot more deprived than the south but still we share deep roots with ppl from other states...
I have toured Kerala extensively and it is definitely the most beautiful state of India...I have shot thrice in AP and Ktaka is lot cosmopolitan so the whole perception is of TN...not other states!

Well would like to differ on the point of Tamilnadu ppl dont prefer speaking in hindi.Let me tell you a few things it all depends on where you and the people u interact. If you are in tier 1 cities in any state u get good response for hindi or english tier 2 is a bit different so again depends on the place blore u can hindi ppl will respond other cities in ktaka it may not be the case.Dont want to indulge into a language divide just wanted to point this out

Regional stereotypes remain and exist for every region, not just south. Just like South Indian characters are shown with a particular dressing style, accent, and lingo in our movies and serials, so are many other characters - I have seen Bengali characters being projected as being completely unreal, weird dressing, dialect and what not! Almost making a mockery of the culture. It is very hard to digest that for anyone from that region who knows how things are on the ground.
Also - another observation that I have is that just like many north Indians attribute anything south to Chennai or madras to be more precise, for many south Indians, everything above Hyderabad is north India. It is not. We can never attribute a Mumbai or a Bhopal or a Kolkata or Guwahati as North India - No!
As for not holding auditions in specific cities - I think its more of a chicken and egg situation. The channels are very much driven by TRPs leading to their advertising funds, and voting funds in case of reality shows and a lot of centers get eliminated based on that.

well I m talking about chennai...until recently I have toured TN thrice but never ever have I found more than half a dozen tamil or not even that much willing to speak in english even not to forget their particular distaste for Hindi...however that is not the case when I was out on a schedule in Bellary..even the local ppl who were hired tried to speak in Hindi and make us feel comfortable...
in Kerala it was always fab with ppl speaking fluently in english! in AP also things were nice with the exception of TN...
