Gaurav is basically a soft guy. Smooth, sensitive and sensible guy. SSP wants a rough and tough person. This tussle is going on from childhood. Gaurav in an effort to win SSP gave up scultptures and took up boxing. But the effort is still not paid off. Very interesting potrayal of all characters, Gaurav, SSP, Devyani and all relationships Gaurav-SSP-Devyani, Gaurav-Devyani, Gaurav-Vindya..

But really hope they have good enough justification for Gaurav's yielding to the pressure and marying vidya. I really can't understand how a sensitive and sensible person like Gaurav accepted to play with Vidya's life.

Another interesting potrayal is the contrast in the characters of Gaurav and Aditya and the resulting inter relationships between thier parents and them !!

Great anaylsis👏

@bold - I think the fact that he is so sensitive is probably the issue. We've seen how close he is to his mother; I think in one episode he even said that she was his first/best friend.

I think Gaurav's had a tough time of it throughout his life - father's disapproval...maybe even bullied at school for being "different"? If he is gay as I suspect, then that adds a layer of secrecy and/or shame to that as well. He seems to be shy, underconfident, introverted and has an inferiority complex. His mother is the only person who has ever "understood" him, accepted him for whoever he is. So when she comes to him, probably begging, probably cajoling, manipulating, pleading...he feels like he has no choice. He is not strong enough to stand up for himself; and not strong enough to go against the only person who has ever stood by him. And maybe he thinks, wrongly, that marriage to Vidya will exonerate him from his guilt or shame or whatever it is. Maybe he thinks it will "fix" him. Of course, all this is based upon the supposition that he is secretly gay. If the secret is something else, then I don't have any justification for his actions.

Hey, thanks for replying.

Hmm... I doubt if he is gay. From the way they are picturizing it looks like a guy who is soft natured. There can be many such guys. In fact, he also looks more matured compared to Aditya.
Many artists have this kind of a nature and note he is a sculpurist. Some of the artists are very sensitive. I mean from his characterization it appears more like a soft, senstive artist kind of a person than a gay. Hopefully, we get some good justification to his character and it's actions.

His 'excessive' affection towards his mother seems to stem from his father's disapproval of him + some troubles of his mother's as seen from his stand point. He does see some tension, but is definitely not aware of SSP's real character.

But it is very interesting to see him open up to Vidya. Their relation looks very different and natural. One thinks she is dumb, but actually quite smart to realize the tension between father and son even without any body mentioning. Other thinks he should respect vidya (actually some one mentioned in their post this point) even in spite of not prefering her for his life partiner and is forcebly tied to her. Some freindship started in some unplanned way, some opening ups are happening because of some level of comfort setting up. No expectation from this relation atleast from Gaurav's side and probably so he is more free with her..

I think it is quite clear now. SSP is an aggressive guy, typical Jaat. Gaurav is different. He is soft, sensitive and smooth guy. Like I said before, he has the characteristics of an artist. But SSP expects a rough and tough guy out of his elder son, which Gaurav is not. So, SSP is terribly dissappointed from his elder son. This is quite a typical phenomenon in many houses, the parents normally want their children to be moulded in the way they like and sometimes they cannot digest if the child turns out to be of contrast character. For example, some parents may expect their children to be very intelligent and pass thier school exams in flying colurs. They may keep giving the example of some such success stories and keep pressurising them. But the child might like some sports. These kind of clashes some times, leads to the parents disliking their own children and children having dissatisfied/troubled childhood.

So, SSP is dissappointed with Gaurav. On the other hand, Aditya is typically like how SSP wants him to be. So, SSP is very happy with Adi, more so also because he is also hiding his dissappointment from his elder son.

However Gaurav seems to make some efforts in winning SSP. Even though, I feel he is doing only half hearted attempts, as he basically is not that.

Have to say every character in this drama is so real. You can relate to them some way or the other.

My take on Gaurav's character is : what ever he does he meets with disapproval from his dad. He constatntly tries to win similar love that SSp showers on Aditya but results into disapponting his dad.Which makes him guilty. Because he tries so hard his dad thinks he is spinesless. If he hadn't given up sculpting and taken up boxing his dad might not have liked it but would have respected him him as he stood up for what he likes. The same goes to marrying Vidya.

His knows that because of him his mom is ridiculed by his dad and out of guilt he married Vidya. When he got married he was fully aware that in doing so he is guilty of ruining Vidya's life but the his guilt that somewhere he is also the cause of the ridicule his mom's faces was so strong that he was ready to live with another guilt of ruining the life of a simple girl like Vidya. If only he had stood up against his parents and married to the girl he loves. They might not have liked him probably disowned him but would have still respected him for his ability to make his own choices in life.

Little does that SSP realise he is the reason that Gaurav is unable to make his own decision. I think the day SSP's true face is out in the open Gaurav will change he will realise he doesn't need such a man's approval.
