According to the initial plot, the format was to actually portray it as rape, but since the maha episode had to be telecasted at the 8pm slot and would be open to children and sensitive audiences seeing it, they changed it to molestation only since rape would have turned it to a more controversial unacceptable by many, that too by a father-in-law on his daughter-in-law.
We can recollect the example of Kyunki.... on Star plus, where though we had seen 3 rape incidents, it was the marital rape by Ansh on Nandini which had generated maximum controversy since it was considered as an insult on the purity and a sacred bent of mind associated with marriage.

If these things can happen then what is the need to suppress this. I can not remember other 2 rapes in kyunki...

Tulsi's sister Kesar and Krishna Tulsi had been through rape as well.
After showing a 3rd rape, on Kyunki and showing atleast one rape in almost all their shows going on at that time including Kasauti Zindagi Ki (Mukti) and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki (Khushi and Maithli), Balaji at one point of time had earned a bad name for captalizing issues like rape for TRPs

And hypocrisy or no hypocrisy, GEC's have just one motive to keep their audiences happy, be it in any manner.
Take Bairi Piya on Colors for example. It was meant to show the plight of Vidarbha farmers, but just ended up being a love story which reformed a bad man and made a girl fall in love with him, just because the viewers demanded it.
