Worldwide, people work towards developing their language. But in India alone, Non-Hindi people have to work towards protecting their language as their language is on the decline post independence due to domination of Hindi language & culture. The language policy in India is totally biased and no media is questioning this.

For those who love their language and wants to protect it & carry it to the next generation, please read the article "Hindi Will Destroy Marathi Language, Culture and Identity in Mumbai and Maharashtra (India)" published in May 2010 edition of TamilTribune ( http://www.tamiltribune.com/magazine/201005.html#one1 ) . The article explains how a faulty language policy of India can kill all the languages of this Country in a slow manner.

I feel very grateful to Tamil Tribune for studying so keenly about Marathi... being non-Marathi. Especially I liked the last point from the article -

12. Message to Other Non-Hindi States

Today it is Mumbai. Tomorrow it would be Calcutta, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. All major cities would be Hindified (Hindianized) and the state languages sidelined. This destructive process would spread from the major cities to other areas of the states. In fact it is already happening in Bangalore and Chennai (I am not familiar with Calcutta and Hyderabad). All non-Hindi states should support the Maharashtrian people in their move to protect their Marathi identity instead of watching the events from sidelines.

thanks krtchennai for posting this.

hhmm..i guess as long as marathi ppl keep fighting among each other and keep ignoring their own interests..the decline of maharashtra will continue.
