Excellent, my dear Shruthi, especially the part about Rudra and the nagas.👏

yes sp108 misti is right. I also know about it. Garuda actually fools nagas. I mean among the Garuds in MK also there needs to be someone who can bluff these villians. I guess if Tapadiya Mai is Garuda she will be the one as she fits the bill perfectly.

Also we need to understand that nagas cant harm Rudra. As per mythology Rudra or Shiva wears the serpent as his neck ornament. In other words Rudra succeeds in taming the nagas.
But I guess in MK before the taming happens Rudra will have to drink the poison. Showing people with naga symbol is clear indication of poison coming Rudra's way. This is in sync with Samudra manthan story also.

I devoutly hope not, my dear Adiana. I do not want my charming, plucky little Kuba in the camp of Naanu and his silver maned Guru Maharaj! I do not think it will turn out that way.

Shyamala, yesterday it was revealed that when the Garuds are caught in the skeins of emotion the Nagas will have the power to overpower them - and due to the connect with Kuba Shivanand may be made ineffective - I have this feel that Kuba might be presented as the Naga with equal power to Rudra

My poor dear Kuba, you are being forced into league with the Dark Forces by Aunty Adiana!😭

Seriously, Adiana, your point is well taken, but Shivanand's emotional connect with Kuba has hardly been shown as strong enough to weaken him when he has this life or death mission on hand. I thought that reference was meant for Rudra with reference to Maya. That would be more understandable.

And how can a mere Naga be equal in power to Shiv/Rudra ? To Shivanand, perhaps, not to Rudra. Regardless, I am glad that you are with me in the Bring Back Kuba Sangharsh Samiti!😉

No, the Amrit is not only for healing, it is really for eternal life, and that is how it has always been presented in our puranas. That would automatically mean that all human ailments would have to be healed by it as well.

But the point about the healing powers of the Saraswati Kund, which presumably did not make all the patients immortal😉, has to be explained. Presumably it is a matter of dosage - Greyerson, as you would remember, tells Balivesh that one kan, ie atom, or tiny particle, of the amrit was in the water of the Saraswati Kund. That is, a very small concentration, which must have been enough for healing, but nor for conferring immortality.

So there was probably a certain quantity of the amrit needed for ensuring immortality, which was why the Asuras, when Mohini was distributing it after the samudramanthan, were not at all sure they would get the required amounts. In the end, after Rahu's shenanigans were detected and punished, they did not get any, but their guru Shukracharya compensated them to some extent by acquiring the sanjeevani mantra to bring dead asuras back to life.

@bold : This is the one reason which makes me think that the Amrit is a panacea. I hope the writers give an explanation akin to the one you have provided for the selective properties of the Amrit.

Apart from that, I think we humans, good or evil, dread the eternal life. Most of us wish for health and prosperity. We might want to acquire health and prosperity in different ways though. More evolved souls wish for liberation from the never ending cycle of life and death - and for that Amrit is no solution because the path to Moksha is cryptic and arduous. Shivanand's family used the healing powers of the Saraswatikund waters not to bring material prosperity to themselves. Dadaji didn't even want to drink its waters to heal himself. And most obviously Nanu and the Cardinal want the Amrit to amass power and wealth. If you distribute immortality, then you can't centralise power. And if you don't distribute immortality, then you can't be all powerful either. Hence, I just can't figure out why people would want to live on endlessly 😕?

My dear Santhi,

I am quite late with this, but I had net access problems for most of 2 days, thanks to MS and a dodgy patch they put out earlier this week. My laptop was stuck in what they call an Update Hell, and given my mobility problem, sorting this out was difficult. Anyhow, here I am!

Thank you as always for the lavish praise; you will soon make me a thoroughgoing addict!

Two points, one about the Part 1. While I too have, after watching that segment again, come round to the idea that Sahadev Malla is not hiding in the Pandey house baudi, it is also true that the whole part about Shivanand entering the baudi, in fact jumping down to the top of the steps, and then proceeding cautiously down them, and Sahadev being startled by a sound - which at first sight would be taken fo the thump of Shivanand landing at the top of the steps- and then preparing to slug it out with the intruder, has been carefully and deliberately shot to confuse the viewer. Anyone can be excused for assuming that Sahadev was in the same underground area as Shivanand and his library!

Then again, as I have noted above to Sandhya, I wonder how safe it was, Shivanand's underground set up, with the opening of the baudi accessible to all. And how did Shivanand set up all this stuff - not just the books, but all the electronic gizmos and what looks like a full scale radio jockey's studio - in that underground area that is part of khoye paaye Pandey's house?? The theory that no one would look for it in enemy territory is all fine, but how did HE get there undetected, and how did he bring all this material across and install it ? That too all by himself, as per Sahadev Malla? This is creative licence with a vengeance!

Two, since Daadi says that Daada refused the amrit from the Saraswati Kund after the attack on their ashram by the 'Veshes, it stands to reason that it was there till then. So it had not dried up earlier because of Shivanand's naadaniyaan, as Daadi was telling Rudra., which was my interpretation. I was wrong.

It is now clear that it dried up because of the attack, which Daadi somehow attributes to Shiva's researching sacred subjects like the garuda chinna-amrit-Saraswati Kund linkages and bringing divine retribution (courtesy the 'Veshes?) down upon all of them. I do not agree with her at all, neither about this nor about her aversion to any idea of revenge and, what is worse, her being willing to brush the destruction of her whole family by the 'Veshes aside as due to their innate nature. Left to her, she would go on talking of seva until the whole Brahma Nisht Panth was destroyed because of the lack of firm action from their side. The good can last only as long as they stand up to the bad and defeat them. Daadi reminds me of a delightful ostrich!

Now we are on to the nagas. Nice, and I am relieved that we did not end up with remixed Dementors!😉 Do see my response above to Mishti's very interesting story about the garuda-naga rivalries.

More on Sunday, hopefully. My finger is now ok, but my knee is as troublesome as ever. Sometimes I feel that it is getting worse, not better!😡

Shyamala ji,

Wishing you a speedy recovery with your finger and knee. You consistently amaze me with your writing.

I was pulling my hair apart on the question - how does Balivesh know about Rudra's knowledge of his panth etc. Because Rudra didn't know anything when he left Kashi. Bored my friends with that argument. Because then he should know Rudra might have met his dadi? But Balivesh does mention to Shiva that his dad and wife could not be spared. So they might be aware of dadi's survival?

But you raised many more important questions.

Greyerson would have wanted balivesh's help in unearthing the book. He wouldn't want to reveal kpp's identity to Balivesh. He himself was unaware that the 'gulabo' is balivesh's house. He wanted to pass on Shiva's information and Balivesh mistook it as something else. But the point is why is Greyerson not after that shop if he trusts Shiva to pass vital information. Its a miss on part of writers or they intentionally left that loose.

Like you said, Shivanand would have finished the show in 2 more episodes if he was left to go at that rate. I found the burning of the mansion episode not well written. Suddenly things just happen so easily?

Your take on Maya is awesome. Things happen to her and not the other way round. But even Rudra was like that. Things used to happen to him. Till he met dadi. Even Maya cheated him and brought him to Prayag. Whatever be her motives, she lied to Rudra big time. I am surprised why Rudra never questioned her motives? And he does understand them now but earlier he was clueless.

I didn't realize that the bawdi in which the book is kept and sahadev's hideout is the same.

And Siva's scene near the kind was agonizingly long. If it dried up before the attack, he was aware of it. He must have been chided by his mom about his nadaniyaan that led to this.

Thank you so much, my dear. I hope you enjoyed Part 2 as much, if not more, for I liked it a lot myself!

I know how it is with a house full of guests. It is very draining on both one's time and one's energy. And, for me, on my laptop time, for teenager guests hog it all the time, and now my astronomer brother, visiting from New Hampshire, seems to spend all his waking hours on it doing the NH Astronomical Society work!

Thanks for your thoughtful advice re: my ailing body parts. I did both, and while my finger is ok, my knee seems to be going backwards in terms of healing. 😡

Thank you so much, my dear. I am so glad you liked this. And Part 2 as well, I hope!

Yes, this week was a humdinger and the story galloped forwards in all possible directions. More action lies ahead it seems, with a lot of my favorite dishum-dishoom!

About Kuba, do see my exchanges with Adiana above about him, and the one with Mishti about the garuda-naga age-old rivalry. The story she has dug up is fascinating.

More soon, I hope, on Sunday.

As for my finger, it is ok now, but my knee seems, if anything to be worse! God knows what is happening in there!

See you on Sunday next.

Shreya if one understands the idea of Eternal Life - it is distinct from immortality - and Eternal Life is about liberation of the soul when it attains the state of Sat-Chit-Anand - and this state is of Eternal Life. Problem is that many interchange the term Eternal Life with the more transient Immortality which actually does not exist. As for how a Naga can match a Garuda in power - Shyamala Adi Shesha is known as the epitome of power and happens to be an embodiment of Vishnu - yes here we are talking of Nagas in the negative and not Adi shesha but then here we are not talking of Rudra as the manifest of any God - he is a rakshak garud and thus a demi god equivalent - and there are asuras who have been more powerful than the gods of Amaravati like MahaBali. So it is possible that there will a naga for every garud - a dark force to match every garud - its only when the match is even that the win becomes sweeter.
