-Shivanand's garuda chinna: What an Idea, Mr Naithani!!!! 👏
The muster roll of rakshaks: ... I would like the Polish Kuba to be a rakshak too, because of the special connect between him and Shivanand, who saw the kid Rudra in him. Me, too.
...NB: What a very conveniently placed 5 litre container of petrol - not kerosene, which is not so easily inflammable -on the kitchen counter! What were those folks doing with petrol in the kitchen?... yeah, but isn't it kerosene with the blue tint coz it's subsidised?I'm not up-to-date on this
- The finding of the second Book: Now this scene was perfect for a mytho-mystery tale... Absolutely, I loved the setting of this scene - so much attention to detail, it was marvellous! And now on Monday, we saw that this lair of Sivanand's is no less than a Chamber of Secrets!
- Daadi's intriguing tidbits: ...But why did it dry up? Was it a divine warning against Shivanand's calling undue attention to the link between the Saraswati Kund and the amrit? ...
... Shivanand had been corresponding with several foreigners. Now these were clearly not part of the Cardinal's group, which means there might be a second, "good" group of foreigners involved with all this mystery of the Mahakumbh, who are seeking to bring the rakshaks to the Mahakumbh and brief them about their mission... Dadi's tidbits raised more questions than they answered, we should wait & watch for further details to emerge, as they surely will...😆
-Katherine and her satphone pal Greyerson: This brings me to the enigma of Katharine, and her satellite phone pal Greyerson. It is clear that she is not part of Prof. Rao's group, even clandestinely, for he is spying on her... I have the sneaking suspicion Dr Rao may be the last Garuda - and may have (through his own research) disabled his tattoo/transmitter so didnt get caught on Sivanand's "Garuda"catcher. Not sure if the Doctor will turn out to be a force for Good, but he is certainly very clued-in, and very enigmatic, and a person that Sivanand was in touch with earlier - I recall Siva recognising him - "Sir"- when Greyerson showed him a video of the Doc holding forth on 'amrit'-The swast Naanu: It is another matter that Devesh Naanu is himself a revelation, the slickest, most confident, most smoothly vicious villain so far seen in Mahakumbh, a maestro in his dark realm. He is fascinating, for pure, unapologetic, undiluted evil is as mesmerizing as a king cobra rearing its head ready to strike. I believe the actor playing Nanu is Ram Gopal Bajaj, a former head of the National School of Drama. If you google him, you'll find he is very accomplished indeed 👏 Once again, you have brilliantly painted a word-picture of this character! Venomous, through and through.
He is of course sick inside, and his heart, if we could cut it open, would be black and not red! Here, however, we are talking of his physical health, and he is clearly healthy, with his supposedly wounded hands are neat and free of any affliction. But then why has he been skulking underground in that lair his for all of 24 years? ? This, for me is the Question of the Week - If you are plotting& killing to lengthen your life and be immortal, what is the point of it all, if you spend 24 years of your life in hiding?? 😕
-Dark counterforce to the rakshaks:
...So Mahakumbh is clearly not going to be a mythic tale, like Tolkien's classic The Lord of the Rings, of small people, like Frodo the Hobbit and his supporters, triumphing over even the greatest evil thanks to sheer guts, doggedness and pureness of heart. It is going to be more of a clash of the titans, of good and of evil. And while they might not top the list of Mahakumbh's dark forces, Devesh Naanu and, to a lesser extent, Swami Balivesh too are clearly part of the aristocracy of evil.
Jab shishya hi aise hain, to unke Guru Maharaj kaise honge? The very thought boggles the mind! I am keeping my fingers crossed for him, and the other dark forces hinted at by Naanu, to be credible, genuinely scary and mythic, not caricatures like those that people other fantasies on TV, and I am pinning my faith on Utkarsh! Was UN a student of science at some point? He merrily "spins" Newton's Third Law and anti-rakshaks into his narrative!! I'm still hoping for Dementors, though, instead of Sci-Fi. After Monday's episode, it does look like I'm heading for disappointment.
Part 2 : I have rarely seen so much of scintillating, high voltage cut, thrust and parry in any other TV serial that I can remember, and these bouts of verbal one upmanship lit up the last week of Mahakumbh like fireworks during Deepavali. ⭐️
Rudra-Balivesh: It was sustained, icy aggressiveness meeting quick-footed deviousness and pseudo-benevolence. Both were very effective, but Rudra clearly came out on top, in part because he controlled his anger, ...
It was a contest between two swordsmen each worthy of his steel, and it was only at the very end that the winner was decided. When, in response to Balivesh's unctuous pronouncement about his prabal ichcha that after Maya and Rudra Ishwar ki kripa se, sada ke liye ek ho jayein.. the Brahma Nisht Panth and the Sri Santh Panth should also become one, Rudra says, without the slightest inflection in his voice, Hamari bhi prabal ichcha hai ki do nahin, ek hi panth ho. His eyes reveal nothing, there is no anger in them, no hostility, and his words are, on the surface, entirely innocuous. But the sting is there, sharp and unmistakable, and Balivesh recognizes it. And he also recognizes that this is no bachcha that he is now confronting, but a tough and very determined enemy who can be neither fooled nor tamed...
___________________________________________________________________________
Naanu-Greyerson: With Balivesh on the sidelines, like a much weaker tennis doubles partner, 😆 ...who merely looks on while his far stronger mate takes it all, game point, set point and match point, and finally the match.
More than what Naanu says, it is how he says it that makes a terrific impact... Naanu rounds off the rout of the videsh mehmaan at his hands by instructing Balivesh to take him away and brief him about the strength and achievements of the Vesh clan. The supplicant, which is how he makes Greyer son feel, has been dismissed from the Presence!
Naanu-Maya: Now this is a walkover, seeing that Maya is hardly any competition for the smooth menace and supple deviousness of Naanu. But it was very useful as a sort of thumbnail intro to Naanu's depths.
...Naanu never expends unnecessary energy in shouting and scolding, or even raising his voice. In the first confrontation with Maya on Monday, ... he challenged her to do all that and more, put his finger on her one vulnerable point, her having (unknowlingly) led to Maimuyi being murdered, and spiked her guns completely. Baap to aakhir baap hota hai! The coldness in his eyes as he looked after her was chilling.
The next time around, he uses the chess simile to make her realise ..there is nothing that he will not do, including sacrificing his near and dear ones if need be...
...He is far more astute here than the bullying Balivesh, who, in a similar confrontation with a terrified Maya, openly threatens her that if she does not manage to hold Rudra in their haveli and he leaves, they will have him killed.... In fact Balivesh in earlier days had the same directness, except Maya is too much of a dhakkan to figure him out! - remember when he sent his thali away saying it had too much salt? And then told Maya that she must stay within her "limits" (implying - or else she may need to be disposed of, as well) I found that scene quite deliberate and chilling.
...
Balivesh-Greyerson: This was in two snippets. The first, which led up to Naanu's interaction with Greyerson, was devoted to an exchange of complaints, and ended with Greyerson's shrill demand for Rudra. In the second, Balivesh was fawning all over his videshi mehmaan, and showing off the special tent that had been set up for him... I never did understand why their interaction went through such mood swings? No motive was shown for Balivesh's fawning, except he was pointedly shown Book#1 nestling in Grierson's shoulder bag. That's it?!!

This was clarified yesterday miishti when the tattoo of the DM was shown - so now we have 4 confirmed Garuds - Rudra with the big tatto on his back, Shivanand with the tattoo on his head, charles and DM with the tattoos on their shoulders - thus leaving 3 spots for garuds free - of who 1 may be Thappadiya mai with her tattoo on the ankle and the remaining 2 as pure speculation !!!
Shyamala,
Part 2 was even better than part1, all the confrontations between the pairs were so wonderfully discussed and described by you.
In all this we have full 10/10 to Rudra, with Nanu on equal score
Shiva and Balivesh stand at a respectable 7/10
Grerson gets a dismal 2/10
and Maya stands at 0, as does Animesh
Great analysis from you...

Thank you so very much, my dear!
Do you know, Arshi, I felt exactly the same myself re: Parts 1 & 2; though I enjoyed doing both, the latter was so much more satisfying. I think it was because the material for Part 2 was so rich, in tone, texture and content, and it brought out the nuances of the characters so very well. Part 1 was more like trying to dissect the story and catalogue all that we had been told so far.
But I must say that I am amazed, and not a little touched, at your having lasted thru the total of 9 pages in all - a record even for me!😉 - with both patience and attention. Every time I sit down to do a post, I tell myself that this time I will be reasonably brief, but it never ends up that way!😉 I think I was really succinct only when drafting talking points for the PM and our Minister; here, I never know how to stop!
I agree with your ratings - poor, limp Maya! I remember one of your posts where you had noted Such good actors... , and the dots were so telling!😉. The only point where I differ is that I would give Shivanand an 8. He is far more impressive than Balivesh, who, for all his cunning, has begun to lack nuance. Probably the presence of his terrible parent gives him a permanent inferiority complex!😉

Once again, a standing ovation for your way with words, Shyamala, and also your perseverance in the face of bandaged typing finger! 😊 Think of all the disappointment if we didnt get our weekly dose of your posts! A gleefully selfish lot, aren't we?😉As you said, this week was a triumph of acting and writing, especially the dialogues. Bravo, Team MK!There was a minor blooper when they showed a close-up of Maya's feet when she was trying to walk away after overhearing the Veshes plotting, and later in the same scene when she is running to cry in her room, she had different sandals on...😆 How clever of you, my dear! I did not spot that at all!I love the Charles-Tiwari interactions (except for that unnecessary fight this Monday) - they have a certain jaunty air to them, have special fun BGM, and bring a lightness into the show which is quite welcome. Especially liked their interaction when they were trying to trace the sat phone, and when they fetched up outside the haveli that Siva has set on fire like Hanuman did to Lanka! My favourite dialogue that you didnt mention was from Charles -"Accha hua der ho gayi, guru - isliye zinda hai"- 😆
Yes, I agree. I am beginning to get used to their bickerings, like a kind of Pat and Mike standup comedy show. Last night, the fight looked obviously staged, and of course neatly orchestrated with the tumbles, the coat coming off as smoothly as if Charles was the DM's valet, and then of course the Great Revelation. What is with Rudr's military style namaste?? Very Impressive!! It looks like all his suppressed anger finds its way into that gesture...😛 And on the other hand he makes us tear up at the drop of a hat when he wants to, like when telling Dadi about his two guardian angels, the saviours of his childhood??? Note to self - Look away, next time!!😃 **Fat Chance** I loved that scene, and Daadi in it too, and I have mentioned it in Part 2.QUESTION OF THE MONTH - who is Nanu's Guru Maharaj?? I bet there will be a twist in the tale there!!! Scratching my head 😳 - after that Siva's scalp-wala tattoo, anything is possible!!!!P.S.Have you noticed how, in this show anyone/anything that disappears, actually physically, goes Underground - Dadi, Sahadev, and even Nanu! Now, even Siva's Library...😆 Am sure we'll find Guru Maharaj in some subterranean hide-out, by and by!
Shubha, you are getting to be more perceptive by the episode!👏 Very true, the point you have made here, and if the Guru Maharaj is indeed also underground, it would have to be the deepest hideaway of them all!
Incidentally, while I too have, after watching that segment again, come round to the idea that Sahadev Malla is not hiding in the Pandey house baudi, it is also true that the whole part about Shivanand entering the baudi, in fact jumping down to the top of the steps, and then proceeding cautiously down them, and Sahadev being startled by a sound - which at first sight would be taken fo the thump of Shivanand landing at the top of the steps- and then preparing to slug it out with the intruder, has been carefully and deliberately shot to confuse the viewer. Anyone can be excused for assuming that Sahadev was in the same underground area as Shivanand and his library.
Then again, as I noted above to Sandhya, I wonde how safe it was, Shivanand's underground set up, with the opening of the baudi accessible to all. And how did Shivanand set up all this stuff - not just the books, but all the electronic gizmos and what looks like a full scale radio jockey's studio - in that underground area that is part of khoye paaye Pandey's house?? The theory that no one would look for it in enemy territory is all fine, but how did HE get there undetected, and how did he bring all this material across and install it ? That too all by himself, as per Sahadev Malla? This is creative licence with a vengeance!

Mahakumbh 29-32: Of confrontations & revelations: Part 2
1) Rudra-Balivesh:
Rudra's eyes were level, questioning steadily and relentlessly but without heat - Aarop nahin, prashna tha- and there was a strange expression in them as he waited for the answers. Like a cat at a mousehole, hoping that the mouse would make a mistake and come out at the wrong time.
I loved this scene... war of words... brilliant script... 👏 👏
4) Shivanand-Balivesh:
I think that there is something in the theory I read here in the forum that there must have been a history of boyhood animosity between Balivesh and Shivanand, which must, over time have deepened into active hatred. For Balivesh reacts to Shivanand with a visceral, personal hostility that cannot be explained any other way.
Hum bhi hai josh mein, baate kar hosh mein... 😆 i loved this scene...👍🏼 i was thinking balivesh tho ab gaya when shiv held his throat😆
6)Rudra-Animesh:
I wonder if Naanu would mourn this doltish son of his, or if he would count his death as good riddance. For he must know that Animesh is the weakest link in their family chain, and a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And for Naanu, it is the chain that matters!
Of course nanu will be relieved!!😆
8)Balivesh-Maya: . So Balivesh could strut his stuff, tell Maya exactly how she should win over Rudra, issue crude threats that Rudra would be killed if she could not hold him in their haveli, and depart with a last, ominous remark: Vaansh ka khoon vaansh ke hi kaam aaye to achcha hai.
I have a doubt... is Maya sach mein his vansh ka khoon!!??!!😕
10)Rudra-Maya: But this does not make him at all romantically inclined towards her - he does not even put up with her hugging him - nor will he let her influence him in the slightest, and he bluntly turns down her plea that they elope and start life afresh elsewhere.
Maya memsab wanted to elope with Rudy...😲 For me till now Maya is a huuuge disappointment...👎🏼 this character is so weak, cry baby kind...😡 she wants to runaway from problems instead of facing it.. i wanted the female lead character to be strong if not equally powerful as male lead character.. bt.. atleast in future i would like to see strong maya with no rona dona.. 😆(there's a hope after watching y.day's episode.. 😆waise bhi women empowerment is the theme these days...👍🏼)
