How exactly did Vyasa display Draupadi's "displeasure in her other marriages"?

Initial attraction is quite different from love and that goes for Arjun as well as the ladies. Arjun was quite clearly said to be attracted to both women at first sight but only Panchali was called his beloved.

Mahabharat is a story of individuals sacrificing for the betterment of the world around them. Panchali had quite a busy life and she quite clearly tells Satyabhama that she bears the burden of the Empire while the Pandavas 'pursue their virtue'. If she ran an Empire that extended from the Vindhyas to the Himalayas, from the Arabian sea to Pragjyotisha, then she had time freezing capabilities like ⭐️Krishna to stew about who else Arjun was 'pursuing his virtue' with.

Also if Panchali actually said all those words about Arjun, in a book supposed to have increased from 8K to 24K verses that it was originally (according to Indologists) to the 100 K verses now, then she DID a lot of things which showed her reliance on Bheem. It's up to the reader I guess to decide which speaks louder for them, actions or words.

But, IMHO, when we focus on who loved whom, the meaning of the epic is lost.

Anu Di, thank you so much for this. Totally second your thoughts.

Sanskrit is a most lyrical language! Could you also break it into its sangya-visheshan (hope I'm saying the right thing) , so we know exact word to word translation?

I can see no REASON for those words of Panchali to be in the epic. As far as I know, the epic existed in oral form for a few millenia before getting written down. People being what they are generally like to see love and positivity even in the darkest of stories. Panchali being the female protagonist of the epic, was given a love interest and the most likely candidate was Arjun, that's about it. If the.poem grew 3 to 13 fold in the last 5K years, it's highly likely that verses without a REASON behind them were added later regardless of how many versions they appear in.

Expressing displeasure at other marriages of Bheem- 😆. In that case, why didn't Panchali express displeasure at the ArChi marriage? Here Arjun took the initiative instead of being prodded by Krishna. Also, mutual understanding and reliance are the marks of a mature love and jealousy the mark of an immature attraction.

Mind you, I am not arguing for Arjun or Bheem being her pet squeeze here. I just think Panchali had a great deal of responsibilities and accomplished much in her life and that we minimize her by reducing her to a silly M&B heroine.

[/QUOTEWhat did Vyasa give in virat Parva that throws light on her equation with arjun? Let us examine here.Since pandavas are in ajnatavas, there won't be much scope for interaction between any of them. When she was troubled by kichak,Draupadi sought help from bheema only. The ever protecting Bheema responded and killed kichak at midnight. The next day she comes across Bheema and expresses her gratitude thus...Gandharva rajaya namo yenaham I paramochita. I bow to that Gandharva king by whom I was saved. After that she goes to brihannala who asks her about the kichak a incident.Draupadi reacts thus...Brihannale, Kim nu tava sairandhya karyamadya vai... Brihannala, why do you have anything to do with sairandhri today?you happily live with the girls in the harem...Draupadi's sulking here again indicates her feelings for him.Arjuna's being in the harem is highlighted here. She abuses him for enjoying the company of girls and not bothering about her.Somehow Vyasa created such sequences between arjun and Draupadi only. To be continued.

That scene after the UpaK's death- Panchali TAUNTS him and Arjun is the one who sulks.
Also what REASON is there behind the scenes that you have quoted as evidence of her love? In a poem which went 3 to 13 fold the original length, some parts have to be interpolation.

It may or may not be. Am just saying that Panchali accomplished a lot as Empress and the scenes don't fit that personality. I think she respected them and Arjun had quite bit in him worthy of admiration and respect. But that does not mean Panchali was angst-ing after him. Or he after her for that matter. These were serious people with big plans.

Brishti...I agree with ur first part.
But as for the second one, can we really be so sure?
Were any of us there 5000 years ago to know whom he loved more?
We all believe wat we want to believe...Some people prefer Subhadrs with him, while others prefer Draupadi.
None of us can claim that he didnt love 'XYZ' most...

I think that's bcoz Arjun is considered the Mahanayak...it's just a bit of favouritism n nothing else.
Arjun made a great pair with his other wives as well...same with Draupadi n her other husbands.
We can cheer for whoever we want... 😊

And yes, Draupadi was much more than this...it's just that no story is complete without a love story...n hence all this shipping n pairing... 😊

Anu...I agree with u. Mahabharat was not a love story. It is more about war. But despite all this, Ved Vyas does give some love stories here n there, n there is no harm discussing them, isnt it? 😊

Loving Arjun does not make Draupadi a lesser woman or so I feel. 😊
