"You have come at the right time," Krishna said again. "Both armies stand on a precipice. The Pandavas have an advantage, due to you, but this war could still be lost." "How?" Ghatotkacha asked. "We have Uncle Arjuna and his divine weapons - ""Only until we lose Arjuna." Ghatotkacha stopped dead in his tracks. "What do you mean?" Krishna looked at the soldiers who were busy around them, treating the wounded, sharpening their weapons, writing their letters. He started walking again, lowering his voice . "There is one divine weapon Arjuna does not have."

They reached the outskirts of the camp and walked out onto the battlefield. Here, soldiers were lighting pyres, performing the last rites for their fallen comrades. Krishna led Ghatotkacha in a circle around them. "What divine weapon?" Ghatotkacha asked when they were further away from the men. "Indra's weapon Shakti." "But why did Indra not give it to Uncle Arjuna? Isn't Indra his father?" "Yes he is, and he wished to give it to his son Arjuna. But he could not because he'd already bestowed it on another. Shakti is such an infallible weapon that it can only be bestowed upon one mortal at a time. And it can only be used once by that mortal before it returns to Indra." Ghatotkacha absorbed the knowledge. "Then who has it?" "Karna." Ghatotkacha stopped dead in his tracks again. "Uncle Arjuna's mortal enemy Karna has the only weapon that can defeat him?" Krishna nudged Ghatotkacha to keep walking. "Why do you think I'm so worried about it ? Karna pleased Indra by performing a selfless deed so Indra could not refuse anything he asked. Karna asked for Shakti." "And there is nothing that can be used to counteract it? How does it work?"

Krishna took a deep breath. "Shakti is infallible because it passes its power through the body of its victim, feeding off the victim's own power to do it. There is no armor against that. No shield that can block that. This is why no matter how strong an enemy is, Shakti will destroy them, because the greater their strength, the more certain they are of death. Arjuna has all the divine weapons therefore his power is greatest on this battlefield. There is no way he can escape Shakti. This is what Arjuna faces because Karna has vowed to kill him." Ghatotkacha was aghast. Krishna shook his head tiredly. "The only reason why it has not yet happened is because I've not allowed Arjuna's chariot to cross Karna's path. And before Bhishma fell, he did not allow Karna to fight on the Kaurava side. That is what has saved Arjuna all these days of the war. But as the days go by, it's becoming harder and harder to keep the two of them apart. Soon they will meet." "But if Uncle Arjuna falls then all his skills, all his divine weapons... they are gone," Ghatotkacha said. Krishna nodded. "If Arjuna falls, the Pandavas are defeated. This righteous war will be over. Hastinapur will be lost to the evil of the Kauravas."

Ghatotkacha clenched his fists. "Then we must force Karna to use it on someone else." "He is stubborn and keeps it only for Arjuna. He hasn't needed to use it on anyone else because he defeats all who face him." He won't defeat me, Ghatotkacha thought. "You said earlier that this was my time," he said to Krishna. "I thought you meant that this was my time to fight. But you meant something different, did you not?" Krishna looked at him with sadness in his lotus eyes. "I meant both." Ghatotkacha stood, absorbing Krishna's words. "This is why my father wouldn't call me, isn't it?" Krishna put his hand on Ghatotkacha's shoulder. "It is why I wouldn't let him." Ghatotkacha felt the warmth of Krishna's touch, the love within it, and was humbled. "Lord," he whispered. "I am not worthy." Krishna turned fully towards him. "While the Pandavas were in exile , I raised their children. I know you always felt a separation from me but I raised you too."
