There's no spirituality, but it exists later when she surrenders to the divine.

Varaali didi:
I use a Bengali book for quick ref, but I also have the original verses for cross checking. That is eastern version as I live in Bengal.

I was making file on Karna from KMG to post in this forum. Then I noticed that some parts are mistranslated or missing. Like one quick in my hand, "Parimita Patikat Daarbhabat Anantapatikang Daasyam Iba Taba Astu Iti" said by Karna in Sabha Parva to Draupadi, which means "May you be the slave (daasi) of infinite number of husbands (kauravas & their supporters like Karna himself) from (instead of) being wife of limited number of husbands (Pandavas)". That part is completely missing from KMG. Also there in Udyoga Parva, Karna told Bhishma that 'you are a liar, seeing your face destroys everything' (probably for Bhishma was childless), I do not have the exact verse in my mind at this moment but am sure about these words which is missing from KMG, rather KMG translated the liar part as, 'I do not speak an untruth when I say that thou, O Ganga's son, art an enemy of the whole universe, and especially of all the Kurus!' I guess KMG is a great Karna fan.

Draupadi represents the Jeevatma ( the human soul) which is bound by the five senses (Pandavas). Due to the senses the jeevatma is forever attached to the material world.

Draupadi being staked is a personification of how, if the senses are not controlled, the jeevatma can be reduced to the lowest level. The jeevatma becomes a slave to the material pleasures. It becomes an object to be used by the sansarik world.

Dushasana stripping Drupadi's clothes represents the last moments , when the soul is being stripped of its outer covering (physical body)i.e moments before Death.

Even at such a moment, if the jeevatma calls out to the Paramatma, it can get salvation, mukti.

Thanks for making this topic Varaali. I'm in the midst of reading Bibek's translation of the CE and it's interesting to see some differences from other known texts. I've never read KMG but I guess most of the popular versions of MB seem to follow KMG.

Yes, there was no suta putra comment in CE and neither did Draupadi laugh at Dury. Dury's comment to Dhrit about Draupadi mocking him was his figment of imagination

But Karna did incite the VH and called her a courtesan..

Also here is a citation from CE re: Karna's role in the dice hall:

Duhshasana dragged her with even greater force, so that she almost lost her senses. He repeatedly called her "slave" and laughed uproariously. Karna was delighted at these words and approved of them by laughing out loudly.

Radheya, who was almost senseless with anger, gripped his lustrous arms 212 and uttered these words, "I have witnessed many distortions in Vikarna. O Duryodhana's younger brother! You do not know the reality of what dharma is. Like one with limited intelligence, you proclaim that Krishna has not been won, when she has been won. O Dhritarashtra's son! How can you think that Krishna has not been won? In this sabha, the eldest Pandava staked everything he possessed.

If you think that bringing her into the sabha when she is clad in only a single garment is against dharma, listen to the words I have to say in response. O descendant of the Kuru lineage! 213 It has been ordained by the gods that a woman should only have one husband. However, she submits to many and it is therefore certain that she is a courtesan. It is my view that there is nothing surprising in her being brought into the sabha in a single garment, or even if she is naked.

Strip away the garments from the Pandavas and Droupadi." O descendant of the Bharata lineage! On hearing these words, the Pandavas took off their upper garments and sat down in the sabha. O king! Then Duhshasana forcibly tugged at Droupadi's garments.

I had read an article on the web about KMG's translation being biased to Karna. I did not pay heed to the article because I could not verify the authenticity of the claim. I cannot find the link to the article, but it was written by some professional writer.

Thanks Varaali.. I always learn something from your post. Such a beautiful spiritual explanation of VH.
I also remember your commentary on GeetaGyaan which was heard by 3 people.. Dhrit, Sanjay and Arjuna. They all 3 represent 3 separate Gunas.(Tama, Rajas and Satwic) . Another great insight.

Thanks for the correction Bheegi. So Karna asking Dushasana to strip Draupadi occurs in the CE too.
But the actual VH is omitted in the CE. I think i got confused somewhere while writing. Thanks for pointing it out

The VH is attempted in CE also but there in no Krishna miracle..a miracle does happen but is left unexplained

As Droupadi's garment was being tugged away, another similar garment appeared every time. At this, a terrible uproar arose. All the assembled kings witnessed the most extraordinary sight in the worlds and approved.
