I've been reading the translation of Critical Edition these days. There are some interesting differences in this version from KMG/what's considered original.
Here are some of them as they relate to Draupadi:1. She never rejected Karna at the swaymvar by calling him sootputra2. She never laughed at Dury in the maya sabha or called him 'and he ka putra andha' Only the servants and 4 Pandav brothers (except Yudi) laughed at Dury but when Dury came back to HP, all furious, he mentioned that Draupadi also laughed at him. This was his figment of imagination3. Karna did call Draupadi a 'courtesan' in the dyut sabja which basically means vaishya4. Krishna didn't save her in dyut sabha but her saree miracle did happen5. There was a symbolic significance of her being on her periods (that SP omitted) Here it is>..Droupadi is attired in a single garment. She is weeping and she is in her menses. Her hair has not been braided and her garment is smeared with blood. She has spoken these words. In the fourteenth year, the wives of those who have caused my present plight, will find their husbands dead, their sons dead, their relatives dead and their beloved ones dead. Their bodies will be covered with the blood of their relatives. Their hair will not be braided and they will be in their menses.Debroy, Bibek (2010-11-18). And, O exalted one, Nakula goeth staining himself withdust thinking, 'Lest otherwise I steal the hearts of the ladies that may look at me.' And Draupadi goeth, attired in one piece of stained cloth, her hair dishevelled, and weeping, signifying--'The wives of those for whom I have been reduced to such a plight, shall on the fourteenth year hence be deprived of husbands, sons and relatives and dear ones and smeared all over with blood, with hair dishevelled and all in their feminine seasons enter Hastinapore having offered oblations of water (unto the manes of those they will have lost).
