He was the instigator of VH and more of a party in numerous plots - lets not forget the hunting trip the Star CVs have eliminated. Also Karna craved the opportunity to show himself superior to Arjuna. That other than his friendship was a motivator for him to side with Suryodhana. Where he became actually conflicted was upon learning that Pandava were his brothers. There loyalty to Dury partially trumphed brotherly love... still IMO he betrayed Dury via his promise to Kunti (5 sons will exist at the end and your count will be same). Really, Karna? He might as well as waved a WHITE flag... so long as YUDHI not Arjuna lived it meant Dury's defeat.

Exactly. he might as well have offered to spare the lives of the other Pandavas except Yudi. By agreeing to not kill Yudi, he showed that his personal glory by defeating Arjun in battle was more important to him than ensuring Dury's victory. And this is true to his character, for he always craved what was due to his skill and 'samarthya'.

@Archer - I know - Amresh Puri ka Mugambo😆 Dury can't top the snakeskin and whip though... In keeping with your Mugambo analogy - Krishna was aaj ka...sorry kal ka Mr. India...sorry Mr.Bharat🤣

Dury said that he could accept marriage to a characterless woman with five husbands, but not give five villages to Pandav. Since there aren't that many women with 5 husbands I think he meant Drau

Karna was involved in this one too?
Seriously?
I understand he was indebted to Duryodhan, but y was he so aggressive with the Pandavas?
All bcoz of what Arjun and Bhima had said to him during that competition?
I understand that he was unhappy that Arjun was always given more acknowledgement as a warrior, and he never got that bcoz of his caste.
And then that rejection at Draupadi's Swamvar made things worse.
But bcoz of that, he started plotting to kill the Pandavas along with their old mother at Lakshagriha, then instigating Draupadi's vastraharan, vowing to kill the Pandavas in the woods due to Duryodhan's insecurity, supporting Duryodhan in not returning kingdom...

I really don't understand what was the reason behind this intense hatred of Karna for the Pandavas.

@ underlined.
A common misconception, that this friendship/ indebtedness (to Duryodhan) started with Rangbhoomi. WRONG. They were pals since much before. A much more disturbing fact is mentioned in real MB. The Varnavat plot was not first homicidal attempt...He WAS an accomplice in poisoning child Bhim !!! And no, this is not an empty laim. Vyas MB has documented mention. Krishna Himself convict him of this gross crime. Just look at degree of hatred. This time, even this so called provocation ( Rangbhoomi) was not in picture, not that it provides any justification for Varnavat crime later either...🤢

Word play -- first when they were saying the world is Viraat - they meant King Viraat...now they are taking the literal use of Viraat and giving up VIRAAT Krishna vis a vis Lilliputian Duryodhana
