I've read many people say that 'according to' Bhagvad Geeta, Krishna is the source rather than the avatar

But a normal understanding would always put Krishna as an avatar of Vishnu and not vice-versa.

Which one is true?, Is it really written in Geeta that Krishna is the source rather than Vishnu?, Or Krishna is an avatar of Vishnu (Which is widely believed ). Which one is true?

Your explanation also fits in beautifully.

I have one doubt- why cant Arjuna be Mumukshu and Sanjaya the bhakta?

As a seeker of Truth/God, Sant is also a 'Mumukshu'. But as you explained earlier, Bhakta is already at much higher Stage. His is an 'experience' state- of truth/Brahm/God. A Mumukshu in initial stages would evolve higher if he stays on course...as per what I have understood from what is explained by our Guru...I need to know more. What would you say?

Only ISCKON and its followers believe that Krishna is the source rather than the avatar.

But Purana-wise, Vishnu is the origin and He incarnated as Krishna.

In the Geeta, Krishna says (in the 10th chapter Vibhuti Yoga, verse 2)

Na me Viduhu Suraganah prabhavam na Maharshaya
Aham Adi hi Devanaam Maharishinaam cha sarvashah

No one- neither the Devas nor the Rishis know my origin, since I am the source from whom all the Gods and Sages have emerged.

But here Krishna= Vishnu. The implied meaning is that as in his primordial swaroop as Vishnu, He is the source of everything and everyone.

Hm.. yes, that figures.
Krsna being the origin and Vishnu being the origin.. oh, basically they are the same, so I'll drop it at that.

So, the shloka that I will put forth is -

tesham nityabhiyuktanaam yogakshemam vahamyaham (9:22)

Meaning - I personally take care of both the spiritual and material welfare of those ever-steadfast devotees who always remember and adore Me with single-minded contemplation.

AHa, my second favorite shloka of Gita.

And Swami Vivekananda quotes it so many times in his writing, like over and over and over again.
This shloka is also present in Srimad Bhagvatam I think( not sure)

It is said in one of the folk tales , once when poet Jaydev had doubted this shloka and cut the vahamyaham part in ink and he went to bathe. He was very disturbed that day, owing to the poverty and other troubles.
When he was gone, a dark and a white boy came, sobbing and each bearing heavy baskets full of food and their body scarred with cut marks.
Padmavati asked them who they are and who made this happen and who sent the food after serving the tired boys water and something to eat.
The boys said Pandit ( Jayadev) sent them with the food and it was he who ebat them so badly. On hearing this, padmavati was very distressed with her husband. SHe asked them to wait inside and waited for her husband.
As soon as jaydev came, she pounced on him for his atrocious behaviour.
jaydev was surprised.
She can brought him inside to show him the proofand saw the boys have vanished and remaining of the sweets clung to Krishna Idol.
Thus proving, the Lord indeeds carries those who do not think of anything else and concentrate on him and him alone

Can anyone recommend a book on Gita that's written in simple (not Shakespearan) language?

Try the Ramakrishna Mission interpretations of Gita for paperback books,
even their original Gita has simple english translations to each shloka, along with word for word breakdown of each shloka. generally considered authentic
