The biggest asset we got from Mahabharat is
"The Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta".
This thread is dedicated to discuss the precious lessons given to Arjun by Shree Krishna.

Gita dhyaanam - Meditation on the Gita

Vasudeva sutam devam
kamsa chaanuura mardanam |
devakii paramaa nandam
krishnam vande jagat gurum ||

I salute Lord Krishna, the son of Vasudeva, the one who gives great delight to Devaki, the destroyer of Kamsa and Chaanuura and the teacher of the world.

One more Gem is part of this epic Mahabharta- "Shree Vishnu Sahastranaam"
Let's discuss these Divine names too. As both are an integral part of Mahabharat & a Divine blessing for us.

On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Bhisma - the great grandfather of Kauravas and Pandavas was lying on his deathbed. With Bhishma's death, an era of great wisdom and knowledge was about to come to an end. There for, Lord Krishna advised Yudhisthir to seek Bhishma's counsel on any and all aspects of life. The dialogue, which was witnessed by Sage Vyasa and Lord Krishna as well, reflects essence of Bhishma's life. During the dialogue, in response to Yudhisthir's questions such as Who is the ultimate Supreme reality of the creation; by worshipping whom a man attains salvation; and what is the easiest way by which mankind can get everlasting happiness, eternal peace and become free from misery and sorrow, Bhishma mentioned thousand names of Lord Vishnu.

How to go about?

I know some members have an excellent understanding of Bhagvad Geeta here. They are just MIA because of the story distortions. Let's discuss the Original Bhagvad Geeta here. The CVs can show what they want. We are only thankful to them for providing us this opportunity of understanding this great Gem in this forum.

Any chapter, any shloka can be taken to highlight, enlighten others, to share your undrstanding, views about them.

No Sarcasm, no bashing will be allowed here. Such posts will be just removed without any warning.

Let's start with the most popular shloka,
Chapter 2, shloka 47

KARAMANYAVADHIKARASTHE MAA PHALESHU KADACHANA
MAA KARMA PHALA HETUR BHURMA TE SANAGOSTVAKARMANI

You have the right to work only
but never to its fruits.
Let not the fruits of action be your motive.
Nor let your attachment be to inaction.

Q: Guys, what is your understanding about this shloka?

Thanx Minakshi for this thread...😃

This shloka is very much interesting one, difficult too...😆
I am always wondered how its possible for normal human being like me 😛
We do any work keeping in mind the what the result would be or whether we can succeed etc etc but how its possible to do any work without thinking of its fruits...
Its really really difficult for all kind of work for me...😆

Is "Yadah Yadah hi Dharmsaye" shlok from Geeta?, It has to be the most popular Shloka in Hindu mythology.

Does anyone care to provide meaning?

That is Shloka 7 of chapter 4.

YADA YADA HI DHARMASYA GLANIRBHAVATI BHARATA
ABHYUTTANAM ADHARMASYA TADAATMANAAM SRUJAMYAHAM.

O Bharata, whenever there is decline of righteousness and rise of evil, I manifest Myself.

Bhagwad Gita, Shloka 7 of Chapter 4

Hey Bhaarata (Arjuna). It is Faith which teaches renunciation and is responsible for the elevation and well-being of human beings. Whenever in the passage of time, (yadaa yadaa) Faith (or dharma) is weakened or is under attack,(glaanirbhavati) - and whenever adharma spreads without control (abhyutthaanam.h) - it is then (tadaatmaanM) that I re-incarnate myself (sRRijaamyaham.h) with all my powers to restore Faith.

Whenever there is a decline of righteousness, and the rise of unrighteousness, then I re-incarnate myself to teach dharma.

Whenever there is a serious tension in life, when a sort of all-pervasive materialism invades the hearts of human souls - an answering manifestation of wisdom and righteousness is essential to restore equilibrium. The Supreme, though unborn and undying, becomes manifest in human embodiment to overthrow the forces of ignorance and selfishness.
