They did fight on the 14th day and Krishna used his powers to create illusions which prevented Karna from firing Shakti.

Arjuna wanted to fight Karna on the 14th night but Krishna stopped him and said that if he goes against Karna he will surely die, hence Krishna sent Ghatokacha to fight Karna and hence Karna fired shakti upon him.

Watcher.. is the Day 14 fight you are talking about a part of protecting Jayadratha or a one on one?

On Day 14th they did have a one on one - Arjuna was able to push Karna back and advance forward.

It is later mentioned that Krishna used his illusive powers on Karna. ( It was you who posted this citation of Krishna admitting about using illusive powers, can you post it again?)

The ' Sudarshana cant kill him' part is after Ghatokatcha is slain.

Before Karna got killed - Krishna gave the speech stating Karna to be a superior warrior to Arjuna.

No worries, got the citation of Krishna using his illusions to prevent Karna from firing Shakti upon Arjuna.

"...Sanjaya continued, 'That tiger among car-warriors, viz., Satyaki of prowess incapable of being baffled, asked the mighty-armed Krishna about the great car-warrior, Karna, saving, 'O Janardana, even this had been Karna's firm resolution, viz., that he would hurl that dart of immeasurable energy at Phalguna. Why, however, did not the Suta's son actually hurt it then at him?'" Vasudeva said, 'Duhsasana and Karna and Sakuni and the ruler of the Sindhus, with Duryodhana at their head, had frequently debated on this subject. Addressing Karna, they used to say, 'O Karna. O great bowman, O thou of immeasurable prowess in battle, O foremost of all victors, this dart should not be hurled at any one else than that great car-warrior, viz., Kunti's son, Partha or Dhananjaya. He is the most celebrated amongst them, like Vasava amongst the gods. He being slain, all the other Pandavas with the Srinjayas will be heartless like fireless celestials! 1' Karna having assented to this, saying 'So be it' (the desire of) slaughtering the wielder of Gandiva, O bull amongst the Sinis, was ever present in Karna's heart. I, however, O foremost of warriors, always used to stupefy the son of Radha. It was for this that he did not hurl the dart at Pandu's son, owning white steeds..."

Krishna used everything to prevent Karna from killing Arjuna, first he weakened him by disclosing the truth, he then used his 'Maya' so that Karna does not fire Shakti upon Arjuna, he then pressed the chariot down to save Arjuna from Nagastra. These were only the contributions from Krishna only, Kunti, Indra, Parshurama, Brahmin and Shalya are yet to be listed.

Had Draupadi really barred the wives of the other Pandavas from staying at the IP palace?
Sorry if this has been discussed before.

The only one who never lived in Indraprastha or Hastinapur was Hidimbi. All the other princesses that the Pandavas married went to their sasural in Indraprastha.

Uloopi & Chitrangada were exceptions. Arjun had very reluctantly married Uloopi, and left her after a night, and went to Manipur, where he married Chitrangada. There, since her father made him promise that her son would succeed the Manipur throne, Arjun left her a few months after her son was born, and headed to Dwarka.

After the battle in which Arjun was temporarily killed by Babruvahana, the latter, accepting Arjun's invitation, went to Hastinapur w/ his mothers Uloopi & Chitrangada. After the yagna, when Babruvahana left to return to Manipura, Uloopi & Chitrangada remained w/ Arjun.

When the Pandavas & Draupadi finally retired after Krishna's death, their other wives, remained in Indraprastha w/ Parikshit & Subhadra (& maybe Uttara too, if she was still alive). Uloopi & Chitrangada however left - Chitrangada returned to Babruvahana, while Uloopi returned to her watery kingdom (it's not clear whether she drowned herself or just went back to her maikya)
