Many people were responsible for the Kurukshetra war. But the biggest reason was LAND.
It was because of LAND, THRONE N POWER, that Satyavati's father gave such a horrible condition.
It was because of LAND that Dhritarashtra, Duryodhan n Shakuni did such horrible things.
People who think that Bheeshm was wrong too, are partially correct. Although, Bheeshm was probably one of the greatest men in the epic, n the man who made the BIGGEST sacrifice ever,
I guess he didn't realize that righteousness was more important than a promise. Same mistake was made by Karna as well. However, at the same time, it cannot be denied that it was difficult for them to come out of their oaths.
So, many people in their own way contributed to the war.

Of all the ones noted in here, this one resonated most strongly with me. At the end of the day, it was the same old battle for power. Everyone wants it, but no one person benefits. Among all Mahabharat characters, Bheeshma ended up becoming a pawn, played by others, despite his own great powers. The one most deserving person never got a chance or the support from others to do the right thing. Both Bheeshma and Vidur despite their strengths and foresight were reduced to helpless spectators. Though I really wish he had taken a stand as well. If he had refused to participate, Dhrit would not have had the confidence to go for war. Even Karna was blinded by his own rage and need for power as well. Shantanu was a useless king for sure. maybe that is why Mahabharat starts with him...putting his illustrious son in a tough position rather than fulfilling his duties...rather than having a clear ruler, HP got plagued with all kinds of relatives wanting to stake a claim on the throne.

Instead of the serial makers stupid tagline of a woman's humiliation leading to war, War happened for one reason only..Power/ Land/Throne. That to me, is the one truth of Mahabharata, that a lot of people have not examined in detail.

The same story gets repeated so often, down the times. It was dealt with superbly in Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Chanakya. Takshashila, back then, continues to be in a geographically disputed territory in present times.

Just because I pointed towards Bheeshma's one karma?? As it is his silence can also be blamed and he did play his part which finally lead to Kurukshetra.

There's nothing wrong in giving an opinion. I only pointed out that 'Bheeshm forcing Gandhari's marriage, Shakuni swearing to destroy the Kurus' isn't reality. This is a folklore. His silence can be blamed...I've no objection on that.

well i would say krishna alone was responsible because he is god...
as sad in bhagvad geeta that on earth all the things happening are due to him.. unke bina to ek patta bhi nai hilta ( not even a leaf can move without his permission)..
so as said by many it was krishna ki mahima...
other were just pawns which he was moving accordingly...
and as said by elders for a new thing to start.. old has to be destroyed... so in order to start kalyug.. dwaparyug had to be destroyed...
and it is said that a mahabharat will again take place when kalyug will end... and lord vishnu will come back to earth to end this kalyug... along with mahadev
