Anybody else heard this story, and know where it came from?

{Personally, I thought this story was moronic: people defer decisions all the time - that doesn't mean that they are immortal. It's just that everything can't be done then & there. Like Bhima too had earlier vowed that he'd one day kill Duryodhan & Dushashan, so Bhima too assumed that he would be alive until then: did that mean that Bhima had attained immortality? }

I asked in the Doubts thread and it doesn't appear there was any interlink btwn Takshak & Shakuni... But, is there any suggestion from other versions that there was a link btwn them?
In Ajaya there is a link btwn Takshak & Shakuni, but Ajaya is more fiction then fact. Is there a factual version from a neutral perspective that has this?

It is said in some versions that Drona was AWARE that his son Aswathama was not deserving of certain knowledge and so he shared his secretive weaponry knowledge about the divyastras and their immense power with Arjun because even he knew through his punya earned that Arjun was Nar to Krishna;s Narayan. THIS is why some versions state that the ONLY three people that get to see Krishna's Vishwaroop are Vidur, Bhishma and Drona.

Vrish, I have read this story. It was in a article posted in a NP. Don't know the source.
Bheem taunted Yudi for delaying his meeting Brahmins, as Yudi seemed over confident. If the Brahmins has some urgent work, that can be attended that day itself, then meeting them the next day would not have served any purpose. That was the reason Bheem wanted Yudi to understand, being king, he has to solve people's problems at the right time.

It is in Sanskrit, not Hindi.

All the three major versions- Neelakantha / KMG, Southern Recension and the Critical Edition are all in Sanskrit.

There are many differences. Some of them are-

Unlike the Northern recension, the Southern recension does not begin with the popular sloka "Narayanam Namaskrutvam..."

There is no mention of Vyasa dictating it and Ganesha writing it down in the Southern Recension

In the Southern Recension, Madari does not commit Sati. She dies soon after Pandu's death. Almost all scholars are unanimous that the episode of Madari ascending her husband's pyre is a latter day interpolation in the NR.

In the KMG version. Draupadi, during her swyamvara, says she will not wed a Suta after Karna had strung the bow and placed the arrows in it. In the SR, Karna attempts but not succeed, thereis no mention of Drauapai calling him a Suta. In the CE (Critical Edition), there is no mention of Karna attempting at all.

In the SR, there is a detailed story of Nalayani (Draupadi in her previous birth)- which is entirely skipped in the NR.

These are the differences I have been able to locate in the Adi Parva alone.


I am sure there are several such differences, but a comparitive sloka- by - sloka study will take a lifetime.

Mahabharata has been interpreted and written by several authors but nothing compares with the original.

Several places in India show remenants of the mahabharata period in the form of folk tales...traditions and customs.
Theres a tribe in coorg...I cant recall their names...they worship the Pandavas...they hav many stories regarding Pandavas.
Aparantly Pandavas had stayed with their forfathers for sometime during their exile.Some experts belive tht they r descendents of some royal families who had sheltered pandavas during their exile.
I will try to find out some more info abt them

KMG wasnt based on Nilkantha's commentary version, As far as i know, KMG translated from the version translated by Max muller.
