A lot of warriors attacking one warrior was nothing new, it was not something that would trouble him.

This is understandable. Bhishma avoided attacking Arjuna whenever Shikhandi came before him. This time was used by Arjuna who attacked Bhishma quickly. Shikhandi's arrows had NO effect at all.

This was planned and wished by Bhishma himself, Arjuna executed it. Shikhandi's role is not that significant when compared with Arjuna's.

That's right! He couldn't be killed due to his ascetic powers providing him complete mastery over death. Also, the pain of the shafts nailed in his body didn't trouble him as lord Krishna gave him a boon. Perhaps we can say that Arjuna's arrows were a cause of his death, what about Shikhandi then?
Bhishma desired it all himself, this stands tall among everything else!

Bhishma did attack arjuna, here is line,

Bhishma, the valiant son of Santanu, as if for the object of consuming the Pandavas, hurled a dart at Partha. Partha, however, caused that dart to drop down

I still wonder did Arjuna did defeat him at his own merit

I am not arguing here from a philosophical POV, Nobody wanted to fight with the pandavas, whether their grandsire, their teacher, or their brother. I am just reading the battle as a battle rather than from an emotional POV

He attacked Arjuna when Shikhandi was absent there. It's quite clear that Shikhandi didn't linger on his chariot regularly.

Ofcourse, he never wanted to kill the pandavas. Both he and Drona.

He had complete mastery over death through his ascetic powers. In fact, he could create an entire universe of mobile and immobile creatures.
