Here he's depicted as a super-paranoid and impulsive moron who's ever ready to curse and punish the pandavas. In fact almost all the characters are extremely unpolitical and blunt in displaying their emotions. Yudhistir is quite impertinent, Bhishma is uncharacteristically assertive and hegemonic, Vidur is a pushover who almost broke down to tears today and several times before as well, Karna too is mild, emotional and quite apparently disapproving of Duryodhan instead of Pandavas till this day.

I think Dhitarashtra cant be a king of Hastinapur rather just a father of Duryodhan. His all decisions are always based on his love for his son.
He is not blind in eyes rather blind in love of his son.

Well said. Karna does come off a bit too soft and often critical of Duryodhan when he ought to display more grit against the Pandavas and exhibit his support even though he may have been aware of the wrongdoings, Vidur is tad too sentimental for a man who was prudent and rational minded, Bhishmas more frailer state via his ambivalence doesnt project, Yudhisthira like Vidur was level-headed, modest and objective but his passionate display is unbecoming when he put forth his demand to Dhritarashtra to give him the rule over Duryodhan. Dhritarashtra is childlike and almost neurotic and crippled by his love for his son but he wouldnt have been so harsh as to banish the Pandavs as is being depicted now.

He is just too muchh...I really loved the way how Yudhishthir gave his peace of mind that if his son can't b punished to insult the daughter in law of Hastinapur then his brother can also b not punished who took a stand for his wife n how well he made him remember the evil deeds of Duryodhan...Dhrit doesn't deserves to b a king He is blind in his son's love :/

Drit has set a trend...

Look at modern day India... all politicians and people with money and power favour their own sons and cover up their sins and frame some other poor souls and ruin others' lives. Not many think about what is right anymore. They only think about what suits them and their own comfort and convenience. Just like Drit did centuries ago.

I am not supporting Drit but am amazed at the anger vented towards him in the forum... we forget that there are many Drits living amongst us today!

Just my 2 cents..

hehe this fits what BRC's Draupadi said "aandhe ka putra aandhe"
just as Dhriti is blind to justice, Dury is also blind to what's proper for him.

One blind man following another, except in this case the truly blind person (Dhriti) was following a person who's vision was perfect, yet metaphorically blind (Dury) in pretty much everything.

This also raises another point from BRC's MB- Bheeshma was telling somebody that if Dhriti had gotten the throne from the beginning, he may have passed on the throne to someone who deserved it, because he would have gotten over the throne ... but since he felt he got injustice for being blind, he was stubborn and wanted to place Dury on the throne.

I strongly disagree with that, and even though it's an impossible question to answer, I would say that he probably would have still made Dury sit on the throne (but then in that case, Pandu would probably be alive, etc.)...

If I were to go further, I would say that Dhriti was probably behind the death of his younger brother. If he loved his brother, even in the slightest bit, he would make sure 100% that his brother's wife and his brother's sons would be happy in Hastinapura. He would not have plotted their death or tried at each moment to make their lives miserable. Of course that's a baseless assumption, but if Dhriti was so stubborn for the throne now, imagine what it must have felt like for him to a) realize that the throne will go to Pandu because Pandu is not blind and b) to convince Pandu to take the throne. Those two actions must have killed Dhriti.

Take for example, I give you a present that you can't play with -- let's make it the Playstation 4. It's all the rage, everyone wants one, but you can't play with it because you don't have the time; but you still want it badly. Now let's add someone you love dearly (wife, parent, husband, etc.) and have them tell you to give it to someone else. You'll plead not to let this happen, but it has to be that way. Now imagine that the person you are giving it to refuses to take it because they know how much you wanted it. You know you can't play with, you know you have to give it up, and as much as you want to keep it, you can't keep it. With that, you now have to convince the person you are giving it to, to take it and on top of that you have to list the reasons why the PS4 isn't for you. That's pretty painful and if you are blind like Dhriti, it just adds insult to the burn (blindness). He was born with a defect that was of no fault of his own. And now he has to give up what he would have considered his right... wow... painful ...

Huh, after the way Dhrit behaved
If draupadi does end up saying something less than respectful in the near future .. i will not hold it against her.
Dhritrashtra represents deliberate blindness like no ones business.
