Ved Vyas' very important explanation of Dharma (part 2):

Arjun : whenever I think about rajkumari draupadi, I feel hurt. How is it possible for a woman to get married to five men? How can we give such a hard life to a woman?
Vedvyas: yes; Draupadi's life will be hard. But for her you five brothers have to make your life a "tapasya"
(means they have to be sannyasi in sansar) Can't you take such a decision which makes her life easy?
If Draupadi Herself took the decision of making such a great sacrifice, then why are you rejecting her decision? Do you have any fear? Do you have any interest?
Nakul : But common people imitate the actions of kings. If we do this, others will make it a rule. So many women will be tortured, then what will happen?
Vedvyas : That will be adharm. But this situation is exceptional and troublesome. A decision taken during the time of trouble is called "apad dharm" (bipatti ke samay nirnay lena ko apad dharm kahete hai)
According to Apad dharm, so many actions can be done during trouble which is dharm. But if these actions are done in simple situation, that is called "mahapaap"
If any woman is forced to marry more than one man, then those men will go to hell. But this situation is exceptional and the decision taken has to be exceptional.
(Because Draupadi has never been forced by anybody, She herself, being selfless took this decision). She was so selfless that for protecting everybody sacrificed herself...
In any other simple situation marrying more than one man is adharma.
Only for Draupadi and pandav it is Dharm...
